Vinatieri's Late Field Goal Gets Colts Past Chiefs 13-10
Regular Season Game #10

Brodie Croyle
Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle made his first career start against Indianapolis.
Nov. 18- Adam Vinatieri eventually found redemption Sunday.

Booed by the Indianapolis crowd after missing his first two field goals against Kansas City and the subject of criticism all week after missing a chip shot that would have beaten San Diego a week earlier, the NFL's best clutch kicker showed everyone how he earned his title.

Vinatieri made a 24-yard field goal with 4 seconds left Sunday, giving the Colts a badly needed 13-10 victory over the Chiefs.

The win ended Indy's two-game losing streak and kept the Colts (8-2) atop the AFC South.

Kansas City (4-6) lost its third straight game in Brodie Croyle's first career start.

For Vinatieri, it was a rollercoaster day.

He was booed mildly when he tried a 49-yard field goal, a chorus that grew louder when he missed it to the right. The boobirds were even louder after Vinatieri pulled a 38-yarder wide left.

But when the Colts needed Vinatieri, he looked like his old self. He connected on a 27-yarder just before halftime, which drew mocking cheers, and then brought the crowd to its feet after Peyton Manning kneeled down three times to set up the winner.

It was another atypical game from the Colts' usually proficient air show.

Manning, the Super Bowl MVP, spent 3½ quarters trying to find something that would work against the Chiefs defense and wound up struggling with a recast lineup that continues to be decimated by injuries.

He finished 16-of-32 for 163 yards with one interception and his lowest passer rating (52.0) in a regular-season game since September 2005 when he had a 44.0 against Jacksonville.

At halftime, the Colts had only 73 yards in offense and failed to score a first-half touchdown for the first time all season. Midway through the fourth quarter, Manning's passer rating was still hovering around 38.

Yet, tied 10-10 with 6:47 left, Manning masterfully led a 61-yard drive that used up nearly the entire clock and eventually put Vinatieri in position for the short field goal.

Croyle finished 19-of-27 for 169 yards and threw a nifty 19-yard TD pass to Dwayne Bowe, which Bowe caught between his knees for the tying score late in the third quarter. He also lost a fumble that set up Vinatieri's first field goal late in the first half.

Joseph Addai carried 21 times for 72 yards, scoring Indy's only TD on a 3-yard run, and Reggie Wayne caught four passes for 75 yards.
