We Ready?

Well here we go, it’s time to get it rolling. The Chiefs are set to play their next season saving game on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Chiefs fans should be all pumped up for this game, but for Chiefs’ players, there needs to be a new meaning to the word PUMPED! Beating the Ravens last Monday night was a huge step in the right direction, and seeing the beginning of what hopefully is a return of the “Big Red” defense we grew so fond of in the 90′s is very exciting.
Offensively there is no doubt that the Chiefs are ready to explode, not having a 30 point game yet this year gives me a sort of Mt. Saint Helens type feeling, it’s going to happen eventually and it’s going to be huge! Priest Holmes has been awesome as always this year, but I think there is a game in him that has yet to be released, and 200 plus yard type game, and it’s time it came out. Trent Green is starting to hit his stride, picking up yards not only with his arm but also his feet, he is ready to have a game with a ton of yards and touchdowns.
So for this Sunday against the Jags here is my prediction, Chiefs 42, Jacksonville 27.
Priest is going to go for 217 yards and three touchdowns. Trent is going to throw for 385 yards and two touchdowns. I know what your saying though, three touchdowns for Priest and only two for Trent only equals 35 points, yes that’s true, but I have not told you the third player to get off the cold streak he has been on, Dante! I was thinking that the opening kickoff of the second half will be a 95 yard return for the human joystick, and the beginning of another streak of games that Dante plays a huge role in.
My predictions are very big I know, but believe me this team is ready to explode with this type of game. I know the Jaguars have a pretty good defense, but in their past two games the Jags have shown what I believe is their true colors, and the Chiefs will provide the knockout blow to Jacksonville’s dream season.
The upcoming schedule for the Chiefs is rough and yet kind of up in the air. Jacksonville gives a tough contest being on the road against a good defense, but there is no reason the Chiefs lose there, record 2-3.
The Chiefs then come home to face the Atlanta Falcons, not a good situation for the Falcons. Read my lips America, “The Chiefs will NOT go 0-3 at home”! There is a rout brewing at Arrowhead, and Vick will not finish this game, record 3-3.
Halloween is next at Arrowhead, and it’s very scary. Indianapolis comes back to Kansas City to try to continue it’s domination of the Chiefs, but for the second straight week the Chiefs’ opponent’s quarterback will not finish the game and Lawrence Tynes wins it for the boys in red, record 4-3.
Road games with the Buccaneers and Saints follow in the next two weeks, with at least a split of these games and a 5-4 record. We next welcome the World Champion New England Patriots in with their record winning streak which will be at 24 games by that point. Monday night football at Arrowhead, the World Champions with a 24 game winning streak, will we be ready? Yes, I think the Chiefs and the Red Sea at Arrowhead will be ready for that, record 6-4 and well on the way to a return to the playoffs.
I believe the Chiefs will end up with a 10-6 record this season and will most likely win a wildcard because the donkeys in Denver just do not have a tough enough road ahead of them in my mind to make them lose the division.
Let me paint you a beautiful little January picture though for us here in Kansas City. Playoff time in the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs are in Denver, Colorado for the first round, set to meet the Denver Donkeys in an AFC Wild Card contest. The two teams split the season series, winning on their own home fields and dominating each game. As the game begins a light to heavy snow begins to fall, and memories for donkey fans begins to pop up in their heads, what happened the last time there was a snow shower and the Chiefs were playing in Denver. Let me remind all Donkey fans that might read this, Marcus Allen flying over the top of a bunch of Denver players and leading the Chiefs to a win in Denver. And there is a repeat performance on this January day 2005, only it’s Priest Holmes going over the top and the Chiefs just knocked the donkeys out of the playoffs with a huge road win.
Next is a date with destiny and revenge for two previous losses in the playoffs against the ponies from Indianapolis, this time on their own home turf. The demons of years past are killed and the Chiefs are now smashing their way to history and a date for the AFC Championship game after a 42-41 victory against Indy. If the Gods are listening and the Chiefs are playing the way they can, we will be playing for the AFC Championship and a trip to the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. A huge game like this, I think it’s better to leave it to the imagination of the Kansas City fans of what will happen, but I think I know what will be going through the minds of everyone of them.
I know my thoughts on the rest of the Chiefs season are big and maybe to some unreachable, but there is no way anyone can tell me that it could not happen. I know the Patriots are on a great streak, but they have not blown anyone away in any game. There is no team or teams that are far and away better than any other in the NFL, and the proof of that is now showing in San Diego and in New York with the Chargers and Jets. No one thought either of these teams would do much this year but they both have started well and have continued to improve every week.
On the other end of the spectrum there are the teams like the Tennessee Titans and the Green Bay Packers who were expected to dominate their opponents, but instead have shown that words mean nothing before the season, it’s all about the performance. The Packers are 0-3 at home for goodness sake, I think that is proof enough that nobody knows what is going to happen.
The Chiefs have a long and very rough road ahead of them, but there is no reason to say they can’t do it. Let the Chiefs hear you in Jacksonville, all the way from Kansas City this Sunday, and let’s watch our boys come home with winning streak.
