Oct. 3, 1965- Kansas City defeats the Patriots at Municipal Stadium, 27-17, in the team’s home opener.
Oct. 3, 1993- Marcus Allen scores the 100th touchdown of his career against his former team, the Raiders. The Chiefs win, 24-9.
Oct. 4, 1970- Jan Stenerud boots a 55-yard field goal in Denver, but the Chiefs lose, 26-13.
Oct. 4, 1998- Kansas City conquers the Seahawks and the rain at Arrowhead, 17-6. Rich Gannon hit Andre Rison for an 80-yard touchdown pass after a 54-minute rain delay caused by a violent storm. The two teams combined for nine turnovers, five by Kansas City. The win improves the Chiefs’ record to 4-1.
Oct. 5, 1980- The Chiefs defeat the Raiders, 31-17, snapping a four-game losing streak for their first win of the season.
Oct. 5, 2003- Dante Hall became the first player in NFL history to return a kick (punt or kickoff) for a touchdown in four consecutive games and tied an NFL record with his fourth kick return touchdown of the season. Hall’s 93-yard jaw-dropping punt return in the 4th quarter gave Kansas City a 24-23 win over Denver and the first 5-0 start in franchise history.
Oct. 6, 1963- The Chiefs defeat the Oilers, 28-7, before a home opener crowd of 27,801.
Oct. 7, 1971- Chiefs wide receiver Johnnie Morton was born.
Oct. 7, 1973- Chiefs running back Priest Holmes was born.
Oct. 7, 1991- The Chiefs trounce the Bills at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday Night Football, 33-6. It’s the Chiefs’ first home Monday Night Football game in eight years.
Oct. 7, 1996- Pittsburgh defeats the Chiefs on Monday Night Football, 17-7.
Oct. 8, 1961- The Texans win their third game in a row at Denver, 19-12.
Oct. 8, 1967- The Chiefs play their first home game of the season and crush the Dolphins, 41-0.
Oct. 9, 1973- Chiefs cornerback Dexter McCleon was born.
Oct. 9, 1995- Tamarick Vanover returns a punt 86 yards in overtime to give the Chiefs a 29-23 victory over San Diego on Monday Night Football. It is the Chiefs’ third overtime win at Arrowhead Stadium during the 1995 season.
