Don’t look now Chiefs’ faithful, but our boys in red have built up some momentum!
While the Chiefs have won two straight in impressive fashion, the Donkeys have tripped over their own hooves twice in a row! The only problem is that the Chargers have looked pretty impressive as well. Although, their last win was against the hapless Raiders, whose play so far this year will be testing the limits of Al Davis’ comb-over (who has to have pulled out a few of his remaining hairs!).
It seems that Denver wasn’t as good as everyone thought. Now let’s hope that San Diego has the same fate.
These next two weeks will tell if Kansas City is for real or not as they should be favored in both games. Everyone has heard the old axiom that good teams beat the teams they should beat, and the Chiefs should beat Tampa & New Orleans.
Denver & San Diego both sit atop the division at 5-3, and both play home games (Houston & New Orleans respectively) followed by a bye week. If the Chiefs sweep their two road games, the most they could be is one game out of first behind the Donkeys & Bolts. Conversely, if both front-runners lose and the Chiefs sweep, we’ll have a three-way tie on our hands!
In my opinion, it will take ten wins to make the playoffs, and maybe defend the AFC West championship. Our boys must finish 7-2 to accomplish this; so the margin for error is very small.
The positive about Kansas City’s bad start to the season is that they can’t afford to overlook anyone, and must realize that they are fighting for their playoff lives every single week.
This should assure that they go into every game with a sense of urgency.
The 2004 Kansas City Chiefs are starting to resemble the team Chiefs’ fans envisioned.
The only question is that have they found their stride in time?
