How’s that Fork Feel?

Well ladies and gentlemen, the almighty fork has been firmly inserted into our beloved Kansas City Chiefs now.
The New England Patriots provided the final blow to our flickering playoff hopes with a workman like 27-19 victory on a chilly Monday night. As a fan sitting at Arrowhead last night I could not help but look at what’s ahead for the Chiefs and wonder what will happen, or not happen for that matter.
There was a buzz of excitement at the stadium before the game that I enjoyed very much, and the beginning of the game was as electric as it’s been in Arrowhead for several years, but as has been proven too many times this year it was all for nothing, and the Chiefs found more ways to lose a game and continued old ones.
Kansas City loves the Chiefs and supports them very well, but if Carl Peterson expects to have 78,000 people out there these last three games and fully be behind what the team is doing then he’s not being very realistic. I kept my ears on full alert for comments from fans in the seats around me, and they were making it clear that the future of football in Kansas City in it’s current state would go on without them. “Wake up Carl”, and “(bleep) you CARL!” were the favorite comments from fans around me last night. I was asking several fans if they were going to be there for the Chargers game on Sunday, and the most popular response was “I would rather be doing anything else”.
I myself can’t stay away from Arrowhead or the Chiefs, I have too much dedication to them and will never stop being a fan. I remember the ’80′s growing up and all the horrible seasons we had, I made it through those years and I am sure I’ll make it through this one. As I say this though, don’t think I will not let my voice be heard about the Chiefs, because I think we all know we have our own opinions on this disaster we call 2004, and if they are smart, I think Carl and company will and should be listening.
I think the average person who knows nothing about football and does not know one person on the Chiefs roster could see that a huge personnel change on the defense is in order. I think there is a number of players we should keep from the Chiefs defense, but I’m sorry to say that you can count that number on one hand. Lional Dalton has been a very nice surprise this year and I think he has shown enough this season to give him the security of a guaranteed job in the 2005 season. Lional has been the only player that has consistently been in the other teams backfield blowing up plays, I think as of right now he is our best defensive weapon.
Jared Allen is another bright spot on another wise dark defensive season. Jared has shown that he has the skills to get to the quarterback and to make a difference for the defensive line. I think the move has to be made for good to make Jared Allen a full time starter.
Last, I think Eric Warfield finally has become what most of the Chiefs coaches thought he could be, a solid number one cornerback. Eric still has his troubles from time to time but he has improved leaps and bounds from his first few years, and looks to keep improving every week. On most NFL teams that have very good defenses Eric might be the number two cornerback behind their so called “shut down corner“, but I think in another year or two Eric will be at that level.
The 2004 Chiefs season has been a nightmare, there is no getting around that, but what we all have to hope is that this is the season that the Chiefs front office realizes that it’s not needed for them to pocket all the money they can, but instead use that money on improving the parts of this team that need improving, or maybe drafting a player that can be useful. Maybe Carl Peterson will take his blinders off for a season and actually think about what he is doing all the time.
Perhaps this offseason Carl should stop and think that maybe raising ticket prices and parking prices is not the most important thing to do, instead work on fixing his teams problems! Get a clue Carl and realize that the problem with your team is your GREAT DRAFT CHOICES (tongue firmly in cheek), and that your head coach is so loyal to a fault it’s hurting the ball club.
Get to work Carl, and make your coaches follow your lead. Kansas City deserves the best team possible because of the loyalty we show you, so why don’t you for once think about us and give us the same loyalty back. It’s pretty pathetic that there are people that call themselves Chiefs fans in Arrowhead stadium that are envious of the San Diego Chargers, that alone Carl should make you feel like the lowest form of life on Earth!
As for the rest of this season, please be as positive as possible and keep rooting for the Chiefs, because they are our team and that’s what we should do, but please don’t hold back from letting Carl and the rest of that circus running this team know what you think.
Go Chiefs, and get something going this weekend please.
