December 5-11

Dec. 7, 1969- The Chiefs squeaked by the Bills at Municipal Stadium, 22-19. Jan Stenerud hit five field goals for Kansas City.

Dec. 7, 1975- Len Dawson’s season – and career – ends when he fractures his right thumb. Playing in his last game ever for Kansas City, Dawson can’t help his team, and the Chiefs lose to the Chargers at Arrowhead, 28-20.

Dec. 7, 1997- The Chiefs hammered the Raiders, 30-0, as their defense held Oakland to just 93 total yards of offense.

Dec. 7, 2003- The Chiefs fell to the Broncos, 45-27, in Denver. The loss dropped the Chiefs to 11-2.

Dec. 9, 1990- The Chiefs downed the Broncos 31-20 at Arrowhead to clinch a playoff berth.

Dec. 9, 1996- The Raiders dominated the Chiefs on Monday Night Football, 26-7.

Dec. 9, 2001- The Chiefs outplayed the Raiders from start to finish on offense and defense, but this game was decided by special teams. The Raiders Tim Brown returned two kicks for touchdowns and the Raiders held off a late rally by the Chiefs to win, 28-26. The Chiefs pulled to within two points with 1:44 remaining in the game, but Trent Green was sacked on the two-point conversion attempt to seal the win for Oakland. Priest Holmes ran for 168 yards in the losing effort.

Dec. 10, 2000- Kansas City defeated Carolina at Arrowhead, 15-14, to end their five-game losing streak.

Dec. 11, 1975- Chiefs defensive end Vonnie Holliday was born.

Dec. 11, 1977- Gary Barbaro returned an interception for a team-record 102 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs 34-31 loss to the Seahawks at Arrowhead.

Dec. 11, 1983- Bill Kenney completed 31 of 41 passes for 411 yards and four touchdowns against the Chargers in San Diego. The Chiefs still lost, 41-38.
