I don’t think there are any words that can describe just how bad this defense has become. I used to have very rough things to say about former Chiefs cornerback Jayice Pearson, but the things I have seen from William Bartee are just to sick to explain. Bartee has put new meaning in the word toasted. It would probably be understandable if the likes of Terrell Owens, or Randy Moss were torching him, but Drew Bennett was using Bartee like bathroom tissue, not really the first person you think of when you say “top of the line receivers”. It got so bad for Bartee that he was benched in favor of Dexter McCleon, I think that says enough right there. That’s like taking a fist to left eye rather than the right eye, it just does not make a difference.

I have to admit that William Bartee was horrible in every single way last night, but he was not the only one that helped the Chiefs defense allow Tennessee to look like the Indianapolis Colts.

Eric Warfield was not shutting anyone down at all, he was caught biting on the first move by the Titans wide outs several times, and he continues his “there’s no way I’m turning around to pick that pass off” defense that we have become used to.

The linebackers were their usual selves as well, tackles missed left and right, and nothing improved the whole game. The defensive line did produce five sacks, but the consistent pass rush was not there all night. Titans quarterback Billy Volek was able to stand there and see the whole field as long as he wanted for most of the night and produced nearly 400 yards passing for the Titans.

The one bright spot on the defense was Jared Allen getting another sack, one more step closer to catching and passing the great Derrick Thomas for the Chiefs record of sacks by a rookie. One better thing was the fumbles caused and recovered by the defense, something the Chiefs have lacked all year long.

Through all the bad defense and a horrible first quarter, the Chiefs offense got into overdrive from the second quarter on and ripped apart the Titans bad defense for the rest of the night.

Trent Green made one bad pass that was intercepted, but other than that Trent was doing his usual job, hitting his receivers and moving in the pocket just enough to avoid the sack.

Derrick Blaylock played okay, nothing great, but he did not hurt the Chiefs in this game. He has dropped off from his great start as the feature back since Priest Holmes went down. Larry Johnson again showed some of the talent he has, and this time he made sure you could not miss it at all. The Chiefs current 2nd string running back and former 3rd string back had two touchdown runs over 40 yards each and another 100 yard rushing game in just seven carries. Johnson showed his power and speed going through tackles and hitting the edge of the offensive line, turning the corner and blazing down the sidelines to the end zone for a score. I think Johnson needs to get many more carries in these last three games, give him the carries he said he needs to really get going, I would like to see him back up his words, again.

Eddie Kennison and Johnnie Morton had their usual couple drops each, but they also had huge touchdown catches as well. Johnnie Morton had one touchdown and pulled out the worm dance he has become well known for, anyone else want to tell him that is was cool the first time, that’s it. Eddie Kennison had two touchdown catches, including for the second week in a row the game winner. On a very nice move in the end zone Kennison made his defender fall down and found himself all alone in the corner of the end zone and Trent Green found him.

If you were making a training video for kids learning football it was not a game you would like to show them. If you were looking to be entertained from beginning to end though, it was exactly what you wanted. Not a pretty win but I think we’ll take it.

Heart is not a word you think of right away when you think of the 2004 Kansas City Chiefs, but I am glad they are showing it, and hope it follows them into next season.

This coming Sunday is going to take a lot of heart because a Denver Bronco team is coming in fighting for their playoff lives, they know a loss will all but end their season. Think here with me folks, and ask yourself this question: What is the perfect way to end this season? How about a smack in the face and a loss that ends the Donkey’s season, playoff wise. That would make everything seem nice for a day anyway.
