Dec. 19, 1988- Carl Peterson was named President/General Manager/CEO of the Chiefs.

Dec. 20, 1969- Using a ferocious goal-line stand in the fourth quarter, the Chiefs defeated the Jets, 13-6, to advance to the AFL championship game.

Dec. 20, 1977- Marv Levy is hired as head coach of the Chiefs.

Dec. 20, 1981- The Chiefs concluded the season with a 10-6 win at Minnesota. For the first time since 1973 they post a winning record at 9-7.

Dec. 21, 1997- For the second time in three years, the Chiefs won the AFC West with their 25-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead. Kansas City finished with a 13-3 record and was undefeated at Arrowhead Stadium.

Dec. 22, 1968- The Raiders humiliated the Chiefs, 41-6, to win the Western Division and the right to play the New York Jets for the AFL championship. The Raiders scored 21 points in the first quarter to put the game away early. At the time it was the Chiefs worst defeat ever.

Dec. 22, 1985- Wide receiver Stephone Paige had eight receptions and racked up 309 receiving yards, a then-NFL record, as the Chiefs closed out the season by beating San Diego, 38-34. The Chiefs still finished in last place with a 6-10 record.

Dec. 23, 1962- The Texans won an exciting double-overtime game against the Houston Oilers to claim their first league championship 20-17. Tommy Brooker’s 25-yard field goal ended what was at that time pro football’s longest game at 77 minutes and 54 seconds.

Dec. 23, 1980- Chiefs linebacker Rich Scanlon was born.

Dec. 24, 1976- Chiefs tackle Chris Bober was born.

Dec. 25, 1971- The Chiefs lost to the Dolphins in the first round of the AFC playoffs in the longest pro football game ever played, 27-24. Miami placekicker Garo Yepremian booted a 37-yard field goal to end the double-overtime marathon after more than 82 minutes of playing time. It was the last time the Chiefs played at Municipal Stadium.
