December 26-January 1

Dec. 26, 1998- After trailing 14-0, the Chiefs came back and defeated the Raiders in Oakland, 31-24. Elvis Grbac hit Tony Gonzalez with the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter. The win left the Chiefs record at 7-9 and it marked the first time Marty Schottenheimer finished a season with a losing record.

Dec. 27, 1974- The only head coach in franchise history, Hank Stram, is fired after the Chiefs finished at 5-9.

Dec. 27, 1992- With the season and a playoff berth on the line, the Chiefs rose to the occasion and buried the Broncos at Arrowhead, 42-20. The Chiefs finished at 10-6 and would play at San Diego in the first round of the playoffs.

Dec. 28, 1986- The Chiefs traveled to New York for their first playoff game in 15 years. Starting quarterback Bill Kenney was injured and missed the game. As a result, the offense played poorly, and the Chiefs lost to the Jets, 35-15. Kansas City took an early 6-0 lead on Jeff Smith’s one-yard touchdown run, but the Jets scored 28 straight points to put the game away.

Dec. 28, 1991- The Chiefs win their first postseason game since Super Bowl IV, edging the Raiders, 10-6, in the first ever playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs defense forced six Raider turnovers.

Dec. 28, 2003- The Chiefs concluded their 13-3 regular season with a 31-3 victory over Chicago, marking a perfect 8-0 record at home and the club’s 13th consecutive regular season victory at Arrowhead Stadium. In the win, Priest Holmes set NFL single-season records for both rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns.

Dec. 29, 1990- The Chiefs closed out the regular season with a 21-10 win at Chicago. Kansas City finished with an 11-5 mark, the club’s best record since 1969. The Chiefs made the playoffs as a wild card entry.

Dec. 31, 1994- The Chiefs lost to the Dolphins in the first round of the playoffs, 27-17.

Jan. 1, 1967- Playing in frigid conditions, the Chiefs rolled past the Bills in Buffalo, 31-7, and captured the AFL championship. Mike Garrett scored two touchdowns and Len Dawson threw two more to lead the offense.
