[Topeka Capital-Journal] Will Derrick Johnson, the Texas linebacker who was Kansas City’s top draft pick last spring, be on the team plane when the Chiefs leave for their Wisconsin training camp today?
“It’s my hope that he would be,” said Vann McElroy, the former Raiders cornerback who is representing Johnson. “We’re working toward that goal, anyway.”
McElroy said Tuesday evening he planned to continue working through the night with Denny Thum, the Chiefs vice president handing the Johnson negotiation, in the hope of getting a deal finalized. He would not say how close the two sides were to an agreement.
“This is not a standoff situation,” McElroy said. “Both sides are eager to get something done.”
The Chiefs are scheduled to fly today from Kansas City to Minneapolis-St. Paul before boarding buses for the short trip to River Falls, their summer camp site for the 15th year.
