[Topeka Capital-Journal] It was on Wednesday afternoon that Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil said he thought wide receiver Freddie Mitchell, having elected to bypass arthroscopic surgery on his sore right knee, might be back on the practice field as early as Friday.
On Friday morning, after he only watched the morning’s workout, Mitchell lightly questioned the qualifications of a reporter who asked if he might be ready for practice by Friday afternoon.
“Have you ever played football?” he responded.
“Man, guys are like piranha out there. If you’re hurt and they smell blood, they’re all over you! My body’s all I got.”
Though he could not give a timeline for his return, Mitchell, who hasn’t practiced since injuring his knee Saturday afternoon, said his goal was to return to action as quickly as possible.
“It’s hard for me to just stand there and watch,” he said. “I’m here to play ball and I want to get back on the field as fast as possible.”
