Down Time for Woods

[Kansas City.com] Jerome Woods, displaced as a starting safety during the offseason when the Chiefs signed Sammy Knight, hasn’t been able to do much about reclaiming his job. Woods has missed a lot of practice time because of a sore knee, and any chance he had of winning his old job has disappeared.

Woods said the knee has bothered him since he broke his leg three years ago. The problem is acute when the Chiefs practice twice daily.

“There’s only so much it can take from two-a-days,” he said. “It gets inflamed, and fluid will come in from somewhere. At that point, you’ve just got to give it some rest and let it calm down a little bit.”

“I’m trying to be smart about it. I’ve been kind of hard-headed. I wanted to get out there and practice. I’m not going out and play with as much pain as I did the last couple of years.”

“Everybody thinks this is the right thing to do, the trainers and coaches and everybody. Instead of me battling through pain every day, they’re going to monitor how much practice time I get. I’ll just get whatever I need to get.”
