[Topeka Capital-Journal] Kansas City fielded a second-team defense that included three full- or part-time starters from previous years.

Safety Jerome Woods, a Pro Bowl player as recently as 2003, is trying to hang onto his roster spot as a backup after being displaced by the acquisition of Sammy Knight from Miami. At second-team corner was Eric Warfield, a long-time starter who will miss the season’s first four game for violating the NFL’s alcohol abuse policy. He’s getting work with the second unit.

And William Bartee, a former second-round draft pick who never made the transition from Oklahoma safety to NFL cornerback, recorded a third-quarter interception from his new safety position.

Bartee has never had an interception in a regular-season game.
