[Topeka Capital-Journal] First-round draft choice Derrick Johnson was credited with three solo tackles in his NFL preseason debut. He also had a couple of pressures on Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper, including one in which he completely ran over the Vikings’ blocking back.

“It was a great experience to go against a great offense like the Vikings,” Johnson said of the 2004 playoff entry he faced in the first NFL game he’d ever witnessed, much less played in. “I never imagined that Culpepper was as big as he is. We got some pressure on him, but we couldn’t contain him and he made a lot of great throws running out of the pocket.”

“I did some good things and saw a lot of other things I need to improve on,” Johnson added. “It felt good out there; the game wasn’t too fast for me. I had some jitters going into the game, but I settled down quickly.”
