[Topeka Capital-Journal] Right tackle Kevin Sampson, a second-year player who had worked at the starting right tackle through the first two weeks of camp, could be down for up to three weeks with a displaced big toe.

Sampson was injured in the days prior to Kansas City’s 27-16 preseason opening loss at Minnesota last Saturday, but he played in the game anyway.

Jordan Black, who played right tackle with the first unit through spring drills before moving to left tackle to back up veteran Willie Roaf, will go back to the right tackle spot in Sampson’s absence.

The Chiefs also will have a new backup quarterback for the next few weeks.

Todd Collins, Trent Green’s backup, injured his throwing hand Saturday when hitting it on the helmet of a Vikings’ rusher. Coach Dick Vermeil said Sunday that Collins likely will be down for two to four weeks while the bruised hand heals.

Kansas City also will be missing Pro Bowl Tony Gonzalez for at least a couple days while he recovers from a finger injury in the Vikings game.
