[Topeka Capital-Journal] Head coach Dick Vermeil hopes to have several injured players back on the field this week for Seattle.
Pro Bowl guard Will Shields should be back at right guard for the first time since he injured his back on the first day of training camp. Tony Gonzalez also should be back at tight end, where he will play with a splint on his broken pinky finger.
Backup tight end Jason Dunn, a key blocker on the short-yardage plays the Chiefs have not executed well in his absence, should be available for the first time during the preseason schedule, Vermeil said.
Defensively, the Chiefs hope to get linebacker Kendrell Bell and defensive end Carlos Hall, two of their key offseason acquisitions, into action for the first time. Bell has been held out of contact work as a precaution because of his history with injuries. Defensive tackle Junior Siavii also may return to action after missing last week’s Arizona game with a swollen knee.
Vermeil said that kick returner Dante Hall will be questionable this week after injuring a knee in the Arizona loss. An MRI of the knee showed no major damage, Vermeil said, but Hall will be rested as a precaution.
