[Kansas City.com] Kansas City police officers cited Chiefs tight-ends coach Jason Verduzco on Sunday for trying to harm an officer after the coach allegedly made an illegal turn as he tried to enter the Truman Sports Complex.
According to a police report, Verduzco was driving north on Blue Ridge Cutoff and tried to turn left into Gate 1. Police shouted for the driver not to turn because of heavy traffic from arriving fans. The driver turned anyway. At least one officer positioned himself in front of the white 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
Officers reported that Verduzco, 35, pulled the vehicle up to an officer, with the bumper touching the officer’s leg. The coach then cursed at the officer and refused to back up. Verduzco allegedly repeatedly refused officers’ orders, shouted that he was a coach and said he turned at the intersection all the time.
Two officers tried to remove Verduzco from the vehicle, but he slapped at them and pulled away. Another officer arrived and sprayed mace into the face of the coach, who continued to shout expletives.
Police issued a general summons for the coach, who is in his fifth year with the Chiefs.
The summons alleges that Verduzco “did intentionally attempt to inflict bodily injury” upon the officer and refused to stop his vehicle.
