Warfield’s Happy to be Back

[Kansas City.com] While the rest of the Chiefs scrambled to get out of town last week, cornerback Eric Warfield popped his head in the locker room and let out a small sigh.

He’s back.

His four-game NFL suspension ended last Sunday with the Eagles game, capping a year that had everything from his third DUI arrest to a month in rehab, 10 days in jail and four weeks away from his teammates in a 2-2 start.

Warfield knows it will take a lot for him to get where he was a year ago, back in the starting lineup, back to the game shape that made him the Chiefs’ most relied-upon man in the secondary.

“I’m not expecting to come in and start in front of Dexter or to have anything change with this defense,” Warfield said. “They’ve got a pretty good chemistry so far. Unless I came up and had a great performance during the week of practice up until the (Washington) game, and if that was the cause of the move, that would be understandable.”

“And yet from what I understand right now, I’m not a starter. I’m not going to say that my comeback is going to spark anything. I’ve just got to come in and work my way into it.”

Before the suspension, Warfield started in 63 of the Chiefs’ last 64 games. He has had four interceptions in each of the last four seasons.
