Chiefs Welcome Back Three Players

[Kansas City.com] The Chiefs got Eric Warfield back from his four-game NFL suspension Monday when they returned from a seven-day break to prepare for Sunday’s home game against Washington.

To say they were overjoyed by the return of Warfield, a four-year starting cornerback, would be a stretch. At practice, Warfield worked mainly with the defense that mimicked that of Washington, and coach Dick Vermeil indicated there was a chance Warfield wouldn’t be in uniform for Sunday’s game.

Warfield’s return was part of a busy day for the Chiefs. Offensive linemen Willie Roaf and John Welbourn also returned to practice Monday. Roaf assumed his starting left-tackle spot for the first time since straining a hamstring in the season-opener. Welbourn, also back from a four-game league suspension, was a backup at guard.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs placed linebacker Keyaron Fox on the injured-reserve list, ending his season.

Offensive lineman Kevin Sampson, who was hospitalized last week in New Jersey because of dizziness and shortness of breath, is scheduled to be released from the hospital today and will fly back to Kansas City, according to his agent, Joe Linta.

Jordan Black took Sampson’s spot at right tackle. The Chiefs are expecting Sampson at practice Wednesday. They have their regularly scheduled day off from practice today.
