[Kansas City.com] He lost 10 pounds during his vacation, but Kevin Sampson returned to Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday not exactly feeling relaxed or fit after the bye week.
“That’s one way to put it,” Sampson said.
Sampson, a second-year right tackle, finally surfaced at practice one week after he was hospitalized in New Jersey for what the Chiefs are calling a severe case of dehydration. Sampson was examined by team doctors Thursday, then watched the Chiefs practice in shells. Coach Dick Vermeil said Sampson, who cracked the starting lineup just before falling ill, won’t play Sunday against Washington.
“I just got sick, and my body was worn down and dehydrated,” Sampson said. “I had taken a couple of (IV) bags before the Denver game and was dehydrated. I guess it was just a snowball effect. It was an unfortunate situation, but most importantly, I’m glad to be back.”
Vermeil said barring any complications, Sampson should be ready to go next week. In the meantime, Jordan Black will start on the right side Sunday. Black played left tackle in Willie Roaf’s absence for the last three games.
