[Topeka Capital-Journal] A breakdown in the telecommunications frequency between the Chiefs sideline and the receiver in Trent Green’s helmet forced a change in the team’s game plan on the first offensive series.
The Chiefs changed to their no-huddle offense, one in which Green has the liberty to call some of his own plays, when he could no longer hear the play being radioed in from the sideline. Kansas City drove 80 yards on 14 plays for a 20-yard Tynes field goal and a 3-0 lead.
The breakdown affected only the Chiefs and happened, coach Dick Vermeil said, when the Fox Network televising the game used a frequency that was supposed to be secured for the Chiefs.
