Chiefs Players of the Game: Redskins

Each week during the 2005 season I will choose an offensive, defensive and special teams player of the game. Here are my selections for the Chiefs after their victory over the Redskins:

Offense: RB Priest Holmes

Priest Holmes takes this honor for the second game in a row. The Redskins held Holmes to only 18 yards rushing on 14 carries, but he led the Chiefs with five receptions for 100 yards and scored two touchdowns, including the game-winner. On that play, Holmes caught a simple screen pass and turned it into one of him most memorable runs, cutting across the field before tiptoeing down the sideline and into the end zone.

Defense: DE Jared Allen

Allen dominated the Redskins, recording three quarterback sacks, forcing two fumbles (recovering them both), and although he didn’t get credit for it, helping cause the fumble that teammate Sammy Knight returned for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Special Teams: K Lawrence Tynes

Tynes gets the nod for the fourth week in a row and is really turning into a reliable NFL kicker. He connected on field goals of 20 and 38 yards and he continues to get good distance on his kickoffs. Honorable mention goes to Rich Scanlon who recorded 3.5 tackles to lead the kickoff coverage unit.
