[Topeka Capital-Journal] Moving the NFL game to Friday night means it will not be televised beyond the immediate markets of Kansas City and Miami.

Because the NFL has an agreement in principal not to broadcast games on Friday nights, the traditional night of high school competition, the rescheduled game will be shown only in markets within a 75-mile radius of the two competing cities. As of Thursday afternoon, the game also will not be shown on the NFL pay-per-view package on Direct TV.

Though the game will be shown on Topeka’s WIBW (13), as well as Kansas City’s KCTV (5), it will not be shown in regional markets such as Pittsburg and Wichita, a move that angered Danny Thomas, general manager of KOAM, the CBS affiliate in Pittsburg.

“We’ve received numerous phone calls from viewers as they became aware that the game is being rescheduled for Friday,” Thomas told the Associated Press. “The network says the NFL says only the home market and adjacent markets can carry it, (and) I say I’m an adjacent market. This is the first time, and I’ve been general manager since 1988.”
