Chiefs Players of the Game: Dolphins

Each week during the 2005 season I will choose an offensive, defensive and special teams player of the game. Here are my selections for the Chiefs after their victory over the Dolphins:

Offense: QB Trent Green

I find it very hard to pick just one offensive player of the game after the Chiefs offense exploded for 462 total yards against Miami. Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson both rushed for over 90 yards and the entire offensive line deserves consideration, but in the end I have to go with quarterback Trent Green. Green had his best game of the season, completing 20 of 34 pass attempts for 289 yards and directed the high-powered Chiefs offense to two scoring drives of 80 yards in the first half.

Defense: CB Patrick Surtain

The Chiefs defense put together their finest performance of the season, holding the Dolphins to 286 yards of total offense and forcing four three-and-outs for Miami. Surtain’s numbers aren’t eye-popping, but he was all over the field, making three tackles and breaking up three passes to lead the Chiefs defense.

Special Teams: P Dustin Colquitt

Rookie Dustin Colquitt had five punts against the Dolphins for an average 45.4 yards, including a 44-yarder that was downed at the Miami 1-yard line in the first quarter.
