Allen Mum About Questionable Call

[Kansas City.com] This time, Jared Allen held his tongue. The normally gregarious defensive end had little to say late Sunday as reporters tried to pick his brain on a couple of fourth-quarter penalty flags thrown his way.

About 30 minutes earlier, Allen did plenty of talking. He was so steamed after a roughing-the-passer call that a referee slapped him with another flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. Allen wouldn’t say what he uttered to a man in stripes, but evidently it was colorful enough to move the Raiders 10 more yards forward.

Oakland punched in a touchdown on the drive, making Sunday’s 27-23 Chiefs victory more interesting.

“I don’t want to get into it,” Allen said after the game. “I don’t want to lose any more money.”

The Chiefs contend that their sacks leader was the recipient of a questionable call. Allen stopped being contentious. Kansas City led 20-9 early in the fourth quarter when Kerry Collins misfired on a pass to Doug Gabriel, then was dropped to the ground. Chiefs coaches said Allen appeared to be blocked into Collins.

The replay board operator showed the play over and over to the boos of the crowd. Allen also expressed his displeasure, another flag was thrown, and Oakland had first and goal at the 9-yard line.

“That happens,” defensive end Eric Hicks said. “Jared is a great player. He’s an emotional player. That happens to a lot of us. A lot more of those things could be called that aren’t called. I don’t want to speculate why it was called, but sometimes that stuff is called, sometimes it’s not.”
