[Kansas City.com] Patrick Surtain didn’t suit up Sunday, leaving Kansas City precariously thin at cornerback.

Surtain, the Chiefs’ top corner, sat out because of a knee injury. He was joined on the sideline by cornerbacks Dexter McCleon (groin) and, later, Eric Warfield.

Warfield suffered a hip-pointer injury last weekend at San Diego and made it through 3 1/2 quarters Sunday before leaving the game. Coach Dick Vermeil said Warfield might have been able to return if the game had gone to overtime.

“A hip pointer, you don’t get over it in a week,” Vermeil said. “You play with pain and everything else – but I think he could’ve come back.”

Warfield was replaced by nickel back Benny Sapp.
