[Topeka Capital-Journal] The Chiefs worked Friday with their defense intact for the first time since the first quarter of the San Diego loss two weeks ago. That was when they lost former Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain to a knee injury.

They played against Oakland last week with only three healthy corners. One of them, veteran Dewayne Washington, made his first start in Kansas City.

On Friday the Chiefs had Surtain running at left cornerback with Eric Warfield at right — the lineup the team envisioned when it obtained Surtain in an offseason trade with Miami. Greg Wesley was back at free safety after missing the Wednesday and Thursday workouts with a back injury. The front seven also was intact.

Vermeil said veteran corner Dexter McCleon, who has missed the previous three games with a groin strain, will be a game-time decision.
