[Kansas City.com] Linebacker Shawn Barber has yet to be activated from the physically unable to perform list, but the Chiefs plan to do so before Sunday’s game against New England at Arrowhead Stadium. A former starter before injuring his knee midway through last season, Barber worked on the kickoff-coverage unit in practice, a sign he will play against the Patriots.

Vermeil said he thought Barber would provide a lift to that struggling unit.

“I’d like to see him take over some leadership, especially on special teams,” Vermeil said. “He is a natural leader, a very enthusiastic guy. He can work hard with a smile in his face plus he can make the coach and the other guys laugh, too. He’s a very positive influence in our huddle.”
