Chiefs Players of the Game: Cowboys

Each week during the 2005 season I will choose an offensive, defensive and special teams player of the game. Here are my selections for the Chiefs after their heartbreaking loss to the Cowboys:

Offense: RB Larry Johnson

Johnson went over the 100 yard mark for a club record sixth straight game, finishing the day with 143 yards on the ground, and a career high three touchdowns. Johnson in now fourth in the NFL in rushing with 1,251 yards and is third in the league with 14 rushing touchdowns.

Defense: LB Kawika Mitchell

Mitchell continues to show improvement on a weekly basis. Against Dallas he recorded six tackles and two assists and made several nice plays in the Cowboys backfield. You can tell he spends a lot of time watching film and is learning how to apply that knowledge on game day.

Special Teams: KR Dante Hall

It’s hard to find anyone deserving of this honor in a week in which we saw a bad snap that led to a missed field goal that could have sent the game into overtime, but since I have to chose someone, I’ll go with kick returner Dante Hall. Hall ran back six kicks for an average of 26.8 yards with a long of 45. He had some big returns early, but the Dallas coverage units did a great job containing him in the second half.
