[Topeka Capital-Journal] The Chiefs head to Mankato, Minn. today for a scrimmage with their traditional practice with the Minnesota Vikings. Fights have broken out on numerous occasions between the teams during past training camp practices, something Edwards, who prides himself on the discipline of the teams he’s coached, hopes won’t occur today.
“This is not a scrum or kick boxing, it’s football,” Edwards said. “You play within the framework of the game and the framework of the rules. You don’t take cheap shots on players; you don’t hit guys after the whistle to be a tough guy. That doesn’t make you a tough guy. That makes you a cheap shot guy.”
The Chiefs’ newest acquisition, running back Michael Bennett, played five years with the Vikings, was involved in a dust-up last season.
“I was a part of one of those,” he said. “(Safety Greg) Wesley, he grabbed my face mask and kinda turned it around my whole head.”
