[Topeka Capital-Journal] Chiefs fans will help pay for Arrowhead Stadium maintenance with increased parking fees.
A deal that won approval Thursday adds an additional $3.50-a-vehicle surcharge for ongoing maintenance, ending a conflict that started after the NFL said no to a $1-per-ticket surcharge.
The parking surcharge is in addition to a $1-a-car fee that was previously included in the Chiefs’ new lease with Jackson County. Currently, the cost of parking starts at $20.
The new fee would not take effect until after Truman Sports Complex construction ends, likely in 2010. The fee also would be adjusted each season depending on how many cars pay to park the previous year.
County residents who buy parking for an entire season would be exempt from the surcharge.
