[Kansas City.com] With fewer than 4 minutes left and a victory well in hand, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson entered the game again and carried the ball three times. And Chiefs fans gasped.
Why did coach Herm Edwards risk injury by playing Johnson so late?
“To be quite honest,” Edwards said, “he wanted 100 yards. And Dee Brown cramped up, so we didn’t have a running back.”
Johnson did get his second 100-yard game of the season, finishing with a hard-earned 101 in 30 carries. He also had two touchdowns, making fantasy-football owners happy. Johnson flashed a rare smile as he headed to the sideline late in the game. On a day when San Francisco’s defense stacked to avoid the run, Johnson had four catches for 41 yards.
