[Kansas City.com] The league has informed the Chiefs of the possibility that the Dec. 17 game at San Diego could become the league’s nationally televised Sunday night game. If so, the starting time would switch from 3:05 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The game would be shown in Kansas City on Channel 41 instead of Channel 5.
The NFL’s new flexible scheduling policy allows one Sunday afternoon game each week over the season’s final eight weeks to be changed to a night start for NBC. The Chiefs-Chargers game is an obvious candidate given that both teams are currently strong playoff contenders.
None of the other games currently scheduled for the afternoon of Dec. 17 feature two teams in the center of the playoff chase.
The league will likely make the switch official with an announcement on Monday.
