Off-Season Blues

Ah, yes, the off-season. You just have to love the off-season.

As if depression and disappointment from the under-achieving season wasn’t enough we get to be subjected to the chat sites and message boards and the latest on who might or might not be traded or brought in. I have enough to deal with considering this time of year my Razorbacks are going through their usual funk in basketball and now the Hog football program is in chaos due to coaches sniping and players leaving and fans wondering what will happen next in the soap opera called Hogville.

Oh well, at least I can turn my attention to the Chiefs and their stability. No wait, correct that. They, too, are having their little off-season trials and tribulations. Will LJ be traded or will he stay if offered a fat extension? Gonzalez signed a nice little extension but who will be the quarterback to throw to him? Will our offensive line have enough members to even practice this summer or will it be open auditions at camp? Come on, folks, Trent Green is and should be our starter. Watch this year–he will be superb. All he needs is some receivers who know how to actually catch the ball.

Will this player or will that player go or will this player get more or will that player restructure? You just have to love the off-season. It’s such a down time for the fans. Oh yeah, the fans. It seems as if the fans kind of get forgotten in all this. Seems as though the fans get forgotten a lot these days. I just sent in my first payment for my season tickets. OUCH!!! What a wonderful reward for making the playoffs and losing in such a fashion—A TICKET PRICE INCREASE!!!!! Just have to love it. Hello, Mr. Peterson and whatever member of the Hunt family is running the show (R.I.P. Mr. Lamar Hunt, you will truly be missed–my great-grandmother cooked meals for your father in the South Arkansas oil fields back in the 1920′s) do you think that you could actually reward the fans by LOWERING prices or at least putting more Port-A-Johns in the parking lots on game day? We don’t ask for much, just some consideration for our loyalty and devotion.

Off-season blues. At least I can experiment with some new barbecue sauce recipes for this fall. Off-season blues. At least a good buddy of mine, who happens to be a Packer fan, is already keyed up for a visit to Arrowhead–if that is still its name. I can’t believe that naming rights would be put up for sale on the stadium with the best name in all of football. The Arkansas Razorbacks once played in Razorback Stadium. Now it has the jaw-mangling moniker of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Wow. What an intimidating and awe-inspiring name. What an obscenity. Comes close to prostitution does the concept of selling naming rights. LEAVE IT ARROWHEAD!!!! Why in the world, except for more money for someone, would such an atrocity be committed?

Ah yes, the off-season, just have to love it.
