With the Hollywood writers strike in full swing, I was going to post a rerun, but for some reason, reruns don’t work as well in print. So if this column is not as entertaining as previous ramblings, it’s because I’m writing this one myself, or it’s because I’m going against a first ballot Hall Of Famer, or it’s because I only scored 22 points.
“Whoa, we scored a lot of points.”
Yes you did Herm, but not quite enough.
Packers 33, Chiefs 22
For everyone who is screaming for Brodie Croyle, put your pants back on. Do you remember last year, when first place Denver decided to bench veteran quarterback Jake Plummer in favor of rookie Jay Cutler? How did that work oot for them? They didn’t make the playoffs? Really? That’s so surprising. If it wasn’t for Jason Elam, they could easily be 0-8 this year.
I find it so funny how fickle some fans are. Trent Green started every game for six straight years. Other than Len Dawson, have we ever had that kind of quarterback stability? Yet when Green went down and Damon Huard had a few good games, Trent couldn’t have been run out of town quick enough. And now everyone who was screaming for Huard to play against the Colts last year, is now screaming for Croyle. Make up your mind.
It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is, the problem starts up front with the offensive line. My mom can get 2.5 sacks on this line. I haven’t seen a line this bad since Kramer tried talking to some hecklers. Ba Dum Bum, shisss! Hooo, is this thing on?
I haven’t seen a line this bad since that last sentence. Hooo! Thank you, I’ll be here all zee week. Be sure to tip your waitress.
Brodie should be thanking the stars he is not in. Huard gets hit on every play, even on the bench. Croyle’s growth and confidence can really be stunted by throwing him in there with this offensive line, with this offensive game plan, and with this offensive coaching staff. And when I say offensive, I’m not talking about scoring points.
Larry Johnson’s 30-yard touchdown catch was vintage Air Saunders. Apparently Mike Solari still has some of the old plays in his book, so why does it take till the second half to use them?
The league leading Kansas City “3 & Outs” were in rare form again in the first half. Were it not for the generosity of Green Bay, another first half shut-out would have been assured.
Way to blow another record Herm. Chiefs’ fans have not had a lot to hang their hat on lately, and never losing to Bret Fav-ra is just one more thing to go by the wayside. Thanks!
Four home games this year so far, and only two wins. Nice.
Game 9 vs. Denver
Since we are coming up on the ninth game of the season, do you think we can score four offensive touchdowns in one game?
RANDOM CHIEFS FAN: “Hey! Quit your bitching aboot Herm! Can’t you write something positive?”
Fair enough. If Herm can do something positive, and decisively beat a bad team, then I would love to write something positive. That’s a big “if”, though.
From the Chiefs official site:
“The Chiefs are typically hard to beat at Arrowhead when they score at least 21 points. KC is 51-7 (.879) at home dating back to ’95 when scoring 21 points or more, including nine straight wins. Kansas City owns an even better 30-4 (.882) mark when scoring 30 points or more at home over the same period.”
Maybe someone from the Arrowhead staff should talk to the head coach aboot the importance of scoring 21 points.
“Twenty-one points – that’s a lot of points.”
Yes it is Herm. For you.
Rufuss Duffass
If there ever was a bigger piece of crap, it is Ruffass Duffuss on the Chiefs official site.
RUFFUSS: “Nonetheless, Peterson-the-Machiavelli-manipulator, the man-who-rules-all-things-at-the Chiefs claims are something I do take exception to once again. To wit, the writer of the Star column insists, “Well, it says that Carl Peterson is the true architect of the Chiefs’ bizarre strategy of going from one veteran quarterback to the next, year after year, decade after decade.” (Kansas City Star, October 14, 2007) It “says” that does it? Where?”
JD: Well, Carl is in charge isn’t he? He does make the decisions on acquiring players, doesn’t he? Yet your first comment is on the phrase “it says”? No wonder the Chiefs have not won a playoff game in 14 years, or, developed a quarterback, with kiss-ass yes-men such as yourself acting as Carl’s mouthpiece.
RUFFASS: “Later, the writer offers this analysis: “This, I believe, gets to the heart of how Peterson believes you win football games. For him, it comes down to making fewer mistakes than the other team. It comes down to winning your home games, stealing a few on the road, and putting yourself in position to make the playoffs. It comes down to having a dependable quarterback who has been through the wars and won’t try anything rash or absurd.” I do not know if this is what Carl Peterson believes.”
JD: You know exactly what Carl believes, “Mr Dawes”.
RUFFUSSSSS: “I do not know if he was asked. Certainly any columnist worth his salt is entitled to state his opinion…”
JD: Then what is the problem?
RUFASS: “…but how this alleged Peterson point of view is “bizarre” – if it is how he sees it – I don’t know.”
JD: If you don’t know, then why are you yapping about it? We all know “Mr Ruffy” is either Carl himself, or one of his close friends, so quit pretending otherwise.
RUFFUSSSSSSS: “Nothing “bizarre” about… “winning your home games… putting yourself in position to make the playoffs… having a dependable quarterback who has been through the wars and won’t try anything rash or absurd.” None of that rates as “bizarre.”
JD: Well, since that strategy does not work for the Chiefs, continuing to follow it would actually be bizarre.
Hermisms
Referring to the Vermeil/Saunders touchdown machine
EDWARDS: “I’ve never had this kind of offense”
JD: And you still don’t.
EDWARDS: “Why try and fix, what isn’t broke?”
JD: Because you’ve never had this kind of offense?
EDWARDS: “If we can continue to play offense like that you have the ability to score and if your defense can continue to not to let them score a lot of points you’re going to be in the game.”
JD: Let me get this straight, if you score points & you don’t let the other team score, you’re going to be in the game? Just checking, as apparently I was unclear on how the game of football works. Thanks Dierdorf!
EDWARDS: “That’s what we said earlier. We always have a chance to be in the football game if we don’t allow them points and our defense has done a pretty good job in the Red Zone in not allowing a lot of touchdowns.”
JD: Actually I think you have good chance to WIN the game if you don’t allow your opponents to score points. Isn’t it amazing how many times Herm brings this crap up? Who is he trying to convince, us or him?
On the Jets’ benching his former quarterback Chad Pennington:
EDWARDS: “Chad Pennington is a class guy, a very good player. If anyone can handle what’s going on, it’s Chad. All I know is this: He made me a better coach by being the starting quarterback. When I didn’t go to the playoffs, it was because Chad Pennington was hurt.”
JD: There you have it. Herm is only as good as his players. I’m so surprised, aren’t you?
