Chief Thoughts: Raiders, Herm Supporters & Math Class

A question or two for all the remaining Herm Supporters, why do you support him? What has he done, or is still doing, that makes you think things will change and get better? I am completely serious with this question.
I know some would argue that he’s great at picking young talent, as evident by the number of contributing rookies. Unfortunately, coaching duties don’t stop there, I believe there is a little more emphasis placed on winning games.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard this statement: “Yah, Chuck Noll may have won some Super Bowls, but could he judge talent like Rich Kotite?”
This team is not getting better, they’re getting worse. We have a new running back, a new quarterback, and a new kick returner, but the same results. When you score almost the same amount of points against one of the top teams as you do against one of the bottom teams….
If a Herm-coached team played my mom, he would still lose 13-10. Herm could play the Patriots and lose 13-10, and he could play the Dolphins and lose 13-10. Oh wait, he did lose to Miami last year 13-10. Oops!
Herm admitted it a couple weeks ago when he said he was only good when Chad Pennington was healthy. Good coaches win regardless of talent. Herm says he can only do so much with this team, implying they are not that talented, which completely contradicts Herm Edwards Talent Evaluator.
I think any record or streak the Chiefs have built up, or contributed to, over the years has been squashed by Herm.
Oakland 17 straight division losses (2-24 overall) – GONE!
Oakland 9 straight losses to KC – GONE!
Oakland 5 straight losses @ Arrowhead – GONE!
Never lost to Bret Favre – GONE!
Never lost @ Texans – GONE!
Never lost to the Ravens – GONE!
Denver 4 straight losses @ Arrowhead – GONE!
18 straight home wins in December – GONE!
Chiefs losing in Denver – CONTINUES!
Chiefs losing in Miami – CONTINUES!
Chiefs losing in Cleveland – CONTINUES!
Chiefs losing to the Colts – CONTINUES!
Chiefs losing in the playoffs – CONTINUES!
We also have:
4 straight KC losses (could continue)
3 straight home losses (could continue)
Worst non-strike loss in 24 years, @ Pittsburgh 45-7. Frank Ganz never even did that.
Again, I pose this question to Herm, “What, do you say, you DO here?”
Raiders 20, Chiefs 17
Typical Herm, praises the 2-8 Raiders, blames Kansas City’s defense for the loss. After the game, Herm said, “Give credit to the Raiders.”
No, No, NO, NO!!! The Raiders are horrible. You blew this. Period.
Q: “You gonna bring in another kicker”
EDWARDS: “I don’t know. I don’t make emotional decisions.”
JD: You also don’t make intelligent decisions, or even football decisions.
Q: “You’ve had two weeks to decide this, how do you not know?”
JD: HUGE high-five to the reporter who asked that follow-up question. It continually amazes me how people can get paid millions of dollars to not know what they are doing.
You have so little confidence in your kicker that you’d rather skip a 39 yard gimme field goal and go for it on 4th & 1, but you don’t want to bring in other kickers. Unbelievable. Herm’s logic train is so mindnumbingly lost in Stupidville, it leaves me speechless. Really, it does.
Every time I think Herm Edwards says the stupidest thing, HE KEEPS TALKING!!!
Bob Gretz
Bob Gretz has been increasingly vocal aboot the crap on the field, and you have to be pretty bad for Bob Gretz to criticize you, but here’s the rub. At the end of his Raider game post, he says this:
“But here’s one thing that should provide Chiefs fans hope. There are already numerous young players contributing to this team…”
This is the little carrot that Carl and everyone likes to extend to get you the fan to open up your wallet. I saw nothing to give me any hope with this team, in fact, I saw just the opposite.
Nine times out of ten, when a running back gets 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, his team wins. It doesn’t matter how many young players are contributing or are playing great, winning and losing is the bottom line, and this coaching staff (minus Gunther), and this general manager have proven to me they are incapable of winning. Period.
Chiefs Defensive Notes
(From kcchiefs.com)
The Chiefs have allowed just 21 first-half points (7 FGs, 0 TDs) in their last five games. The Chiefs haven’t relinquished a first-half touchdown since registering a 27-20 victory vs. Cincinnati (10/14). Kansas City has held nine of its 11 opponents to 20 points or less this season.
JD: All that only accounts for four wins. Nice.
Ruffassss Duffussssssss
The Chiefs are in a freefall, and what does ace ass-kisser/Peterson mouthpiece write aboot? College football (MU/KU), of course. What a dick.
Priest Holmes & Larry Johnson
When talking aboot Larry Johnson’s foot, didn’t you get the feeling that Herm was being grilled by the police, and his lawyer, Carl Peterson was having to answer for him, so he wouldn’t incriminate himself?
What is the big F’N deal? Larry broke his foot, end of story. This is reason 37 not to like Herm and King Carl. They are dishonest, shifty and full of BS. How can anyone support that?
Asked to explain what symptoms he felt, Priest Holmes was also evasive.
”Much of that is, I guess you could say, in the past,” he said. ”Just to know the symptoms were similar to the ones before. But to be technical, to go into medical terms, I wouldn’t feel comfortable.”
In the past? IT JUST HAPPENED!!! Priest can say he’s not comfortable answering a question, but he can’t say he’s uncomfortable due to a neck injury. What kind of dog and pony show is King Carl running here?
In an unrelated story, I will not be commenting on any of the previous paragraphs of this column. It’s in the past, and I would just like to move on with my life. Thank you.

Q: Talk about the importance of winning your home games.
EDWARDS: “You look at the home games before the season and you know you have some tough ones, but if you do what you do you should use the home field advantage.”
JD: If you do what you do, you should use the advantage? What????
EDWARDS: “We’ve played pretty well at home but we haven’t won enough home games.”
JD: Well, actually, since you lost, you did not play pretty well.
EDWARDS: “If you don’t win home games, that makes it even tougher when you go on the road.”
JD: Well since there are only two kinds of games, home or away, I guess it would be tougher on one if you can’t win the other.
Q: Do you think you guys can still improve defensively on where you are now?
EDWARDS: “I think the thing we can do better is take the ball away more. You always have opportunities to do that. But according to how the game’s being played you always don’t have those opportunities.”
JD: Let me get this straight, you always have opportunities, but you don’t always have those opportunities? I really feel bad for the players having to follow this clown.
EDWARDS: “If a team has the lead on you they’re going to run the ball. It’s hard to take the ball away when people are running the ball.”
JD: He is SOOO right on this one, as I’ve never seen a running back fumble. EVER!!
EDWARDS: “We have the ability to do that but we have to do it more in bunches. We have to take it away – the goal is always to take it away three times every time we play. If you can do that you’re probably going to lead the league if you don’t turn it over as many times. Our problem the last couple of weeks is we’ve turned the ball over.”
JD: If you take the ball away you can lead the league? I thought the object is to WIN THE F’N GAME, not lead the league in a statistical category. Didn’t Herm just give a speech a few weeks back aboot not being concerned with stats?
EDWARDS: “If you can do that you’re probably going to lead the league if you don’t turn it over as many times.”
JD: This sentence was so stupid it needed to be hit twice, as Captain Obvious returns in full force. So, according to Herm, if you take the ball away three times a game, and don’t turn it over, you will lead the league in the turnover/giveaway category? Good to know!

Q: Why indoor practices yesterday and today?
EDWARDS: “We’ll go out tomorrow. I always look at getting up-tempo practices. I’ve been a player before, been an assistant coach before. Some people think you need to go outside to be tough. If you’re not tough going outside is not going to make you tough.”
JD: Well, actually, going outside does make you tougher. I’ve been a player before, been a HEAD coach in Sega, Nintendo and now Madden, and I can tell you, it does make you tougher. I like how he drops that he was an “assistant” coach before. He’s been a HEAD coach before, and he’s actually one NOW. Maybe someone should remind him.
Q: It’s not tough, but it could acclimate you to the weather?
EDWARDS: “We can do that tomorrow. What about those dome teams or teams that come from California that don’t play in the cold? They don’t get acclimated; they just play in the cold. I’ve always done it this way.”
JD: Yah, and they usually lose. That’s why they are always giving dome teams’ road stats, and how Tampa Bay lost 48 straight cold weather games. Didn’t Herm used to coach for Tampa?
EDWARDS: “I always get nervous when it’s bad weather and you’re going to practice and the ground’s slippery, all that kind of stuff and it becomes a bad practice. You’re worried about guys slipping and guys getting hurt. I’d rather get the rhythm of your offense and the defense and then one day out of the week you go out outside.”
JD: Well you are now 2/3 of the way through your second season, how long DOES it take to get an offensive rhythm? You still don’t have one.
EDWARDS: “I gave the team the Thanksgiving Day questions today. I said I know all you guys went to college, to these big universities, got higher education. My first question was how many Pilgrims?”
JD: Uh… how many Pilgrims what? Did you mean to say “How many Pilgrims were there?” Just checking.
EDWARDS: “They were looking at me and some of them are going, ‘eight’ others were going ‘ten.’ Whoa. I’m going, you guys must have been in the student union; you couldn’t have gone to class.”
JD: Whoa, ten Pilgrims – that’s a lot of Pilgrims.
EDWARDS: They’re laughing. I said there were 44 Pilgrims.”
JD: 44 Pilgrims? That isn’t even a real colony. That’s Arena Colony. We’re talking about real colonies. By the way, maybe you should’ve asked your team how many Raiders?
EDWARDS: “Then I said they have to get this one right: what was the ship? They all knew the Mayflower. They got the Mayflower. I said where did the journey start from? They were kind of puzzled. How about England? I said what was the date? Unbelievable. They’re saying 14-something or 15-something. I said, what? 1609.”
JD: I thought Herm would’ve guessed the year 1310. I have a question, how many field goals has your kicker missed this season, and how many games have you lost by three points? The Mayflower? How about the Missflower? We all know the Missflower. We got the Missflower.
EDWARDS: “I said why did they leave? They all were looking around and had no idea. I said, for religious freedom. Sometimes people feel to realize that.”
JD: Sometimes people fail to realize if you run a field goal offense, you need someone who can kick field goals.
Q: What about your defense halfway through the season? Are you where you thought you should be?
DENNIS GREEN: “We are where we thought we are!!! Oh, sorry, wrong press conference.”
EDWARDS: “Certain areas, yeah. You’re talking about a team that’s only given up 14 touchdowns. There’s only one team that’s given up less and that’s Pittsburgh who’s given up 13.”
JD: And how many games has Pittsburgh won?
EDWARDS: “We’ve had more opponents have more chances on us. Of the 120 attempts of the other offense getting the ball they’ve only scored a touchdown 11.7 times in the course of a game and that is the best in the league.”
JD: Congratulations Herm on a very successful season!
EDWARDS: “When you…..”
JD: Wait a minute. 11.7 times a game? Wouldn’t that mean the other team scored 81.9 points in one game? Or are you saying 1 touchdown every 11.7 attempts out of 120 total attempts? Wouldn’t that make it 10.25 touchdowns? You just said you gave up 14 touchdowns. Where do you get 11.7? 14 divided by 120 is 8.57. What is wrong with this F’N guy?
EDWARDS: “When you have a team that can keep the score down you have a chance.”
JD: You’d think that, wouldn’t you?
