The last time Kansas City lost to Denver and Oakland at Arrowhead was 1978. That was 29 years ago. TWENTY-NINE. Frank Ganz never did that.

The last time Kansas City lost to Denver, Oakland AND San Diego was 1977. Only three times in Kansas City history has this happened, 1974, 1976 and 1977. And now it’s four.

Last week I wrote about all the streaks that Kansas City has built up, only to be smashed by Herm, and now we can add one more:

Norv Turner has never won at Arrowhead – GONE!

Herm talks about playing games close, and hanging around in the in 4th quarter. That’s how he thinks he can be a winner, by “hanging around.” Winners don’t “hang around.”

EDWARDS: “We made plays (beating Oakland, San Diego & Minnesota in the 4th quarter). That’s how we won. We have to play a certain way. We try to do that to protect the quarterback and make sure we can throw the ball. You have all of these fancy ideas there at the end and there are certain things we’re stuck with because of how we have to play.”

JD: Herm is admitting he is not qualified to be the Chiefs coach. He says there is only one way this team can play, and only one way this team can win, but yet, they are not winning. Herm can’t do it. He can’t be a winner.

EDWARDS: “That’s OK. You can still win games that way. We just can’t get behind like that because that just puts you in a bad, bad way.”

JD: No, obviously you CAN’T win games that way, because you’re NOT winning games that way. You’ve lost eight games so far. You’re Hermplan does not allow for coming from behind.

TONY GONZALEZ: “I’m tired of it and don’t want to play this style of football. It’s not what I’m into. I don’t think Herm wants to.”

JD: Except that IT IS what Herm wants to. He talks about it ALL THE TIME to the press. Maybe Herm says something different to the players. It wouldn’t be the first time.

TONY GONZALEZ: “We want to win. Let’s get it over with. I don’t want to keep the game close until the second half because we’re a second-half team. That’s bull. Let’s just go out there and win a football game.”

JD: Unfortunately Tony, your coach says all the time that being a second half team is the ONLY way the Chiefs can win, and he’s not changing. So until Clark Hunt makes a change, get used to losing.

Carl Peterson

Carl Peterson has also admitted he deserves to be fired, because he has done all he can and can’t do any more.

CARL PETERSON: “I’ll always remember something Lamar Hunt said to me after one of those playoff games. There will be people who say this loss was because of bad management. There will be people who say this was because of bad coaching. There will be people who say this was because of bad players, and there will be people who say this was because of bad ownership. I prefer to say it’s because of bad karma.”

JD: Actually, I agree, it was bad karma. You cut Hall Of Fame kicker Nick Lowery for a guy who was cut from the Cowboys for MISSING A LOT OF FIELD GOALS! So what happened? You lose a playoff game because your kicker, MISSED 3 FIELD GOALS! Unfortunately Carl, YOU created your own bad karma.

PETERSON: “I know this: We’ve done everything we could to turn those L’s into W’s.”

JD: There you have it, Carl just admitted he should be fired. He’s done all he can, but the Chiefs can’t win.

Joe Gibbs & Sean Payton, Hermist University Graduates

Joe Gibbs gets a 15 yard penalty for calling consecutive timeouts, allowing Buffalo to kick a 36 yard field goal, instead of a 51 yard field goal to win the game. D’oh!

Instead of just running the ball and running out the clock, Saints head coach Sean Payton called a trick play that resulted in a horrible fumble, allowing Tampa Bay to score the winning touchdown at the end of the game. Oops!

While both coaches made two really stupid Hermesque decisions, at least they were man enough to take the responsibility of their mistake.

GIBBS: “There’s nobody to blame but myself. I should have known the rule.”

PAYTON: “That’s a disappointing loss and probably the worst job I’ve done as head coach since we’ve been here. Obviously, I regret the play call. It cost us the game.”

Herm would’ve said they were the right calls, but the players need to make plays, and to give credit to the Bills and the Bucs, and he’s doing the same things he did last year, etc, etc. What a dick.

Herm’s Revisionist NFL History

Q: Does it help having an advantage with cold and bad weather because the Chargers are used to the warm weather?

EDWARDS: “I don’t think so. You say all that good stuff but once you play both teams have to play in it. It’s not that one team’s tougher because you play in the cold. San Diego played in one of the coldest games ever in Cincinnati in a playoff game. It kept going overtime and was below zero.”

JD: Yah, and San Diego LOST! BADLY! Do you just make stuff up, or are you really an idiot? The game you are referring to was the 1981 AFC Campionship Game, on Jan 10, 1982. Cincinnati beat the visiting San Diego Chargers 27-7. It did not “keep going”, and was definitely NOT an overtime game, unless of course, there is a special 20 point overtime play that I’m not aware of.

The cold clearly affected Air Coryel and was one of the reasons people would correctly say warm weather teams could not play in the cold. Now either Herm is a liar, or he does not know what he’s talking about.

I’ll ask this again, Herm Supporters, WHY do you think Herm will be good? The Jets let him out of his contract early. If he was so good, why didn’t they keep him? I’ll tell you why: Herm is NOT A WINNER. Why isn’t he a winner? Herm is NOT A GOOD COACH.

2002. 9-7 first (3 way tie). 1-1 playoffs.
2003. 6-10 third.
2004. 10-6 second. 1-1 playoffs.
2005. 4-12 last.
2006. 9-7 second. 0-1 playoffs.
2007. 4-8 last.

His record speaks for itself. But, I’m going to add to it anyway. His teams are wildly inconsistent, and THAT is coaching. He has only had two consecutive winning seasons. TWO! And those were his first two coaching seasons, when he was still using someone else’s players.

Just because other Chief fans can not come up with a coach that YOU think is better is no reason to stick with a loser.

Staying with a bad coach because there is no one better is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. Do you stay with a bad girlfriend? “Well, she cheats on me, takes my money, alienates all my friends, is a huge drama queen and pretty much makes me miserable, but she keeps promising me she’ll change, and I can’t find anyone better, so I guess I’ll put up with it.”

Herm is like that one crazy girlfriend that every guy dates at one point or another, and we need to be strong and tell him, “It’s not me, it’s YOU! Now don’t call me anymore.”

Hermisms

EDWARDS: “He’s (Solari) working his tail off. He’s doing a good job, doing everything he can do to put players in position and play to the strengths of what we have. He’s disappointed we haven’t scored points like we’d like to.”

JD: The team is 29th in the league in total offense and 30th in scoring, yet you say he’s doing a good job. Really?

Q: Is (Larry Johnson) out for this week?

EDWARDS: “Oh, he’s just jogging around right now.”

JD: Holy crap, just answer the F’N question!

Q: But you’re thinking he might practice next week?

EDWARDS: “Well, we’ll see. I don’t want to say yeah and then he can’t.”

JD: Then just say he can’t. What’s with all the F’N secrecy? Did it help you beat Oakland? Denver? Indy? San Diego? Didn’t think so.

EDWARDS: “Other than that, we have to continue to do what we do.”

JD: But what you do doesn’t work. You have a career losing record with no championships.

EDWARDS: “Kind of amazing, last year the same coaches and basically a lot of the same players on a certain side of the ball and all of a sudden you lose some games and they’re not good coaches any more.”

JD: Well, Herm, you are working under the fallacy that you were good last year, and the year before, and the year before, and so on.

EDWARDS: “I don’t believe that. There are 19 teams in this league feeling the same way now with losing records.”

JD: Of course you don’t believe it. You’re the one being questioned.

EDWARDS: “We play at home this week and our home week is not very good, not very good at all. You’d like to have a home field advantage, but we haven’t created that. We have another chance before the season gets away from us.”

JD: You didn’t have to create a home field advantage, YOU ALREADY HAD ONE! What you did do was RUIN IT. Hate to break the news to you there, Lombardi, but the season is already away from you.

EDWARDS: “You’re talking about a guy (Rayner) who was 68% (accuracy) That’s not quite good enough. In the last three weeks he’s missed some kicks. We’re playing games so close all points are important.”

JD: Yet, you didn’t want to get into “kicking competitions” and replace him. His misses are on you. You say 68% success rate is not good enough? Your head coaching success rate is 48%. What should we do with you?

EDWARDS: (talking about Medlock) “There aren’t too many rookie kickers that come in right away and just light it up.”

JD: Except of course, for Green Bay and Dallas, the teams that drafted kickers after you. I believe Green Bay’s kicker, Mason Crosby (who replaced Dave Rayner), leads the league in scoring with 98 points and has a 79% accuracy. Nicholas Folk, the Dallas kicker is 4th with 94 points and an 85% accuracy rate. Justin Medlock, your draft pick, is 1-2 and unemployed.

Q: Did you ever think you’d be on your third kicker now since you made the decision to let (Lawrence) Tynes go?

EDWARDS: “You never want to go through that with kickers, especially with the way we play right now. We’re playing with very tight windows to score points.”

JD: Then why did you never bring in competition for kickers? Ever? Your flippant attitude toward such an important position is mindboggling.

Q: Would you maybe want Dante Hall back if you could have him?

EDWARDS: “No, no. That was the right decision for us. Dante did a great job here but as I keep saying and we keep losing sight of it: we’re on a different road map now as an organization. Dante was a heck of a player and did a good job as a special teams player. But we’ve gotten draft choices and that’s important for us coming up this year.”

JD: Like the important draft choice you cut after week one?

Q: What do you attribute your problems to?

EDWARDS: “Our return game is not up to par. We’ve got [Jeff] Webb back there and we’ll see what he can do. But our deal has been kickoffs – that’s the issue for us. We haven’t been very good returning kickoffs.”

JD: Gee, maybe you could’ve used “a heck of a player” who “did a good job”, like Dante Hall? He’s broken several returns for big yards with one touchdown this year. Yah, you’re right, it was the right decision.

EDWARDS: “When you play the game the players have to make plays. The coaches will take their share of the blame but the players have a part of it too. They get in the game and they’ve got to go make plays.”

JD: You have never taken your share of the blame, Herm, but at least you did blame the players. Classy, successful coaches take the responsibility when the players come up short (like Gibbs & Payton), and since you don’t do that, what does that make you?

Q: Do you regret the first move you made at kicker?

EDWARDS: “You go with the information you have. If you live on the things you didn’t do you’d live a miserable life. The thing about errors in sports is everybody gets to second-guess you and that’s OK, that’s part of the deal. When you’re not winning as a football team you have dumb coaches. Well, these same dumb coaches took this team to the playoffs last year.”

JD: Only because every other AFC team lost their last two games, most of them at home. The Bengals get eliminated because they missed an extra point, and the Broncos get eliminated because the lowly 49ers beat them in Denver, in overtime. And what did you do in the playoffs? No first downs until the middle of the 3rd quarter, the worst performance in NFL history. Maybe if you would’ve second guessed that performance, you wouldn’t be in the position you are in now.

EDWARDS: “They’re (the coaches) just as dumb this year as they were last year.”

JD: For once I agree with you Herm, you are just as dumb this year as you were last year.
