Well, the 2007 Chiefs season ends with yet another 13-10 game, which is pretty much the way they’ve played all year. This is the 8th time this season the Chiefs have scored 10 points or less. What ever happened to Herm’s plan to “fix it”?

Onward with random observations from today’s game:

Another great 5-yard return by Eddie Drummond. Good thing the great talent evaluator/developer/motivator Herm Edwards found this gem. Just think how worse off the Chiefs would be if Herm wasn’t able to evaluate/develop/motivate future Hall of Famer Eddie Drummond. Things will definitely turn around next year (note heavy SARCASM).

Good thing we have a great offensive mind like Herm Edwards to develop a young quarterback like Brodie Croyle. At this rate, Brodie might get his first win by week 11 of 2008. Where do I get my tickets?

At 12:09 in the 2nd quarter, Len Dawson mentioned for the 16th consecutive week about the need to throw the ball downfield to challenge the defense and keep them honest, and for the 16th consecutive week it has fallen on deaf ears. But that’s OK, Herm has a plan! (snicker, snicker)

4th and 3 conversion on a fake punt, holy crap! Where was this play against the Colts? Why is Herm now playing to WIN THE GAME, and not earlier in the season when it would’ve made a difference?

I take it back. It’s 4th and 4 on the Jets 44 yard line with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and Herm orders a punt. Unbelievable. You are 4-11 and you are losing by one score to a 3-12 team and you are punting on 4th and 4 in the opposition’s territory. I thought you wanted to see what the young kids can do? At least you are teaching them how to give up.

People like Bob Gretz point to Dwayne Bowe as proof of Herm’s talent ability, yet how often does it seem that Dwayne gets forgotten? Why did you draft the guy if you are not going to use him?

GONZALEZ: “We’re underachievers. It’s embarrassing. It’s frustrating. I think it’s ridiculous. We’re one of the worst teams in the NFL, record-wise. That’s something I never thought would happen out here in Kansas City.”

JD: And just who is at the helm of this “embarrassing, frustrating” season? Herm and Carl? Well then, they deserve another year! (I’m rolling my eyes if you can’t see)

EDWARDS: “Am I glad it’s over? Yeah. Now we can go try and improve our football team.”

JD: Uh, why didn’t you try to do that in the 2007 off-season?

It stuns me that people still think he should get another year. But then again, I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, a lot of people casually brush off Herm’s idiotic 21 points comment. For those of you who need a refresher, here it is:

EDWARDS: “If we score 21 points, I’ll say, ‘Whoa, we scored a lot of points.’ Twenty-one points – that’s a lot of points. Thirty points? That isn’t even a football game. That’s Arena Football. We’re talking about real football.”

If Herm’s team were to average 28 points a game, then sure, it could be taken as a joke, but since they’ve averaged 14 points a game, it appears to be one of the more honest things Herm has ever said.

There’s been a lot of talk about a “youth movement”, and the Chiefs have to get “younger”. I’m watching the Patriots/Giants game and I’m seeing Rodney Harrison, Randy Moss, and Junior F’N Seau. How old is Junior? Everyone said Randy was finished because he was not successful in Oakland, and in New England he just set the record for touchdown catches in a season. Yep, he sucks.

Junior Seau started in 1990, 17 seasons ago. SEVENTEEN. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, it doesn’t matter how old you are, as long as you can produce. This Chiefs “youth movement” talk is a load of crap. It’s just another in a long line of excuses for Herm’s inability to produce wins.

MERCURY MORRIS: “It doesn’t matter to me whether or not they (Patriots) win them all because it doesn’t affect anything we’ve done. When all the dust clears, the best they can do is to stand beside us, and in the end, that’s not a bad thing. I will welcome them to the neighborhood with my Mr. Rogers sweater on, but first they have to get to the neighborhood.”

JD: Nice back-handed compliment from the loudest Dolphin douchebag. This is why people don’t like you. The Patriots will not be standing beside you, they will be in front because 19-0 is a bigger deal than 17-0, but nice try. Did you and Herm go to the same school for press conferences?

GARO YEPREMIAN: “We were the first ones to climb Mount Everest. If New England comes and does it, then they can be the second ones. But you usually don’t remember No. 2. I remember Sir Edmund Hillary was the first one to climb Mount Everest. I don’t remember who did it the second time. Do you?”

JD: Uh, I don’t think 17-0 with two wins against teams with winning records (regular season) counts as Mount Everest. The Patriots have beaten four division champs, four teams with ten wins and two teams with thirteen wins. The Dolphins only beat two teams with a winning record, eight wins (regular season), and everyone else had a losing record. That is hardly Mount Everest. Yes, New England needs to win the Super Bowl to put all questions to rest, but if going 16-0 was so easy, why was it never done?

Dear Mr. Gretz,

Will Herm tell Clark Hunt to “Get over it” when Clark looks at his gate receipts of the Titans game?

If Mr. Hunt decides Herm is costing him money, will you write an article telling Clark he just doesn’t have any “perspective”?

You continually defend Herm, yet Herm continually blames everyone else for his problems. What makes you think Herm wouldn’t throw you under the bus if it would save him?

Good PR move by attacking the fans! That will definitely fill seats next year.

Q: Are you bothered about the public perception when you left the Jets?

EDWARDS: “Not really because no one really knows what happened. There were a lot of stories written without getting all the information. Obviously, you don’t know what really happened. I wouldn’t talk about it and the Jets haven’t talked about it, which was the right thing to do because it was an in-house situation where both parties understood where it was going. At the end, it took a turn, and that’s ok. You never worry about that because there’s going to be perception out there and the reality is I know the truth. That’s all that matters. I know the truth and I know what happened and I can live with that.”

JD: And Herm the Liar returns in full force. Anytime he tends to repeat the same thing 50 times in three sentences you know he’s full of crap.

Q: Do you think that the end of your tenure was disappointing?

EDWARDS: “It’s always disappointing when things don’t end the way you’d like, but sometimes in life that happens and you have to deal with that. I think both organizations have dealt with it in a fine way. They have a good football coach (Eric Mangini) there. Hopefully, I can become a good football coach for these guys here. Both teams last year went to the playoffs and that’s a good thing. This year, both teams are struggling a little bit. There’s some work to be done.”

JD: Hopefully you can BECOME a good coach? Once again Herm admits he’s not good.

Q: How do you look back on your five years in New York?

EDWARDS: “I’m an optimistic guy. You folks know that, you covered me there long enough. I’m very optimistic. I’m very pleased with the way we did some things there. We didn’t do everything right; we didn’t do everything wrong. We had some good times, had a lot of fun. We played in some playoff games and won a couple, and I think that’s important. But we didn’t get the ring. That’s the shame of it. We did everything we could do to try to get there. The players did a great job and the coaches did a great job of coaching.”

JD: How great a job could you have done with only a couple playoff wins and no Super Bowl?

Q: Whose idea was it to invite HBO’s “Hard Knocks” to training camp?

EDWARDS: “That was an organizational decision.”

JD: Then the organization needs to be fired.

Q: What did you think about the show?

EDWARDS: “It was fine. It’s part of the National Football League; it’s part of what you do. I think the league wants to cover a team every year and we just happened to be the team they covered this year. It helped a lot of our young guys understand they’re under a lot of media scrutiny when you play in the National Football League. We portrayed what we were as an organization, which I think is a good thing. Does it get a little bothersome sometimes? Yeah, it does, but it’s just like being in New York everyday. It’s just the cameras were following you all over the place.”

JD: Oh whatever, you’ve never walked past an open microphone. You loved it and you know it, can’t you admit anything?

Q: Talk about the difficulty of the past two months?

EDWARDS: “It’s been rough, especially offensively. We haven’t had the ability to score points. We’re averaging about 14 points a game. It’s tough to win games in this league when you’re only averaging 14 points.”

JD: Good thing you kept your promise of not messing with our Air Saunders offense.

EDWARDS: “There are some things we’re going to have to do different offensively. But when you lose good players, it always makes it a little tougher, but that’s not an excuse.”

JD: Except you just used it as one.

EDWARDS: “Dwayne Bowe was our first round pick and he has a chance to have 1,000 yards in receptions.”

JD: That’s surprising since you hardly use him.

Q: Compare the amount of injuries the Chiefs have suffered this season to the number of injuries you had with the Jets in 2005.

JD: Nice softball question. He just said injuries weren’t an excuse, but this way he gets to put it back in play because it was a media question.

Q: Looking back on it, have you maximized that to the extent you can – tried to get as many of those guys as much time as you could?

EDWARDS: “Yeah, but never losing sight of trying to win. What people fail to realize is that you can only dress 45 guys. That’s what makes it difficult.”

JD: Herm acts like he is the only one with injuries, and playing rookies, and only dressing 45 guys.

Q: But on offense you’re still playing a bunch of Vermeil’s guys. Do you feel like this is your team in that sense, that you’ve done what you hoped you’d do?

JD: Holy crap, is RuffAss Dawes the Coward asking these kiss-ass questions? WHAT Vermeil guys are holding you back? When Marty came in ’89 he got rid of half the players and took a four win team and won eight games. Herm took a ten win team and reduced it to a four win team. Herm has had two years to get rid of whoever he wants, he can’t complain that he has who he has.

But that’s fine. Maybe we should get rid of ALL Vermeil’s guys, like Jared Allen, Derrick Johnson and Larry Johnson to start. Let’s get rid of Marty’s guys too, like Donnie Edwards and Tony Gonzales. Then next year, you can go for a sixteen game losing streak instead on nine.

Q: Would it be fair and accurate to say that next season might be the first season where this is truly your team?

JD: And yet here’s another suck-up softball question, they really are circling the wagons hard. This will be Herm’s THIRD F’N YEAR. How long are we going to play the “It’s Vermeil’s Fault” card? Marty cut half the team in his FIRST year, and there was never talk of if it was still Frank Ganz’s team. I never heard Gunther complain about being stuck with all the convicts from the ’98 team, and I never heard Vermeil complain about being stuck with Gunther’s players. GET OVER IT!!!

EDWARDS: “Your philosophy when you come in as a new coach is going to always be different than the other guy. That’s part of the deal. Everyone knows that. That’s no secret. It doesn’t mean the players there before can’t fit your philosophy….”

JD: You mean like Dante Hall?

EDWARDS: “….But what you understand is you have a certain way you want to play and you have to develop that in your players. The first thing you do is start drafting players like that. The other guys buy into your philosophy or they don’t. Most of the players here have tried to do what we’ve asked them to do. That’s all you can ask.”

JD: Then why are you complaining about scoring 14 points a game? You wanted a low-scoring offense, and you got it.

Q: Has (Kolby Smith) proved he can play in this league? Is he a full-time player?

EDWARDS: “There’s no doubt. But I don’t know if he’s a starter.”

JD: Classic Herm. Answers the question, and then completely contradicts himself in the very next sentence.

Q: Do you see any of your influence on this current Jets team?

JD: Hell yah! They’re 4-12 too!

EDWARDS: “There are about 18 players left. A lot of them are still playing. But that philosophy has changed too.”

JD: Slick Hermy at it again. You can’t blame Vermeil for your current team, and then turn around and say you have nothing to do with the Jets implosion. What a hypocrite, but what do you expect from a liar? Get ready Chiefs fans, if this clown is retained, 2008 will be another long year.
