Edwards Upset with Bucs & Rams

Edwards Upset with Bucs & Rams

March 24th, 2008 @ 9:54 pm; ChiefsWarpath.com

[Kansas City.com] If coach Herm Edwards didn’t accuse the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and St. Louis Rams of cheating when they signed free agents of interest to the Chiefs, he certainly implied it Monday.

During a news conference called to announce plans for his football camp in Kansas City, Edwards indicated the Chiefs were as aggressive as NFL rules allowed them to be in pursuing center Jeff Faine and kicker Josh Brown.

NFL rules prohibit teams from contacting prospective free agents or their agents until the new league begins. This year, that was at 11 p.m. Feb. 28.

“There were probably some deals done before (the start of the league year),” Edwards said when asked why the Chiefs didn’t get in the game with either player. “We didn’t cheat. We abided by the rules. That’s how you’re supposed to do it, and that’s what we did.”

Faine signed with Tampa Bay in the hours after free-agency began. Brown immediately visited with the Rams and signed with them before the Chiefs could get him to visit.

  1. Hmmm…yeah they cheated (okay, thats not totally out of the question). That, or no one wants to play for you Herm, that come to mind?

  2. Yah, i am having a hard time enjoying Herm as coach. After this season if nothing changes, i hope he is long gone. I would love to have coach Cower on our side.

  3. I’m sure this happens a lot and what the frick is everyones fascination with Cowher?
What has he done that makes him so desirable?

  4. I agree, Everybody is all hung up on Bill Cowher. So what, it took him 20 years to win a Super Bowl. Now everybody thinks he’s the best. Here’s some news for people that think he’s coming back, he’s not!!! So let it go.

  5. Listen to little Tommy Boy up on the first comment. Does this guy sound like a baby or what. Herm’s to blame! Herm’s to blame! WAH ha WAH ha! go side up with a sissy team like the raiders or broncos.

  6. Speaking of hating our coaches. Why does everybody hate Marty. He won 101 games for us in his 10 years with the Chiefs. The 4 coaches after Hank Stram only won 81 (Paul Wiggin-11, Tom Bettis-1, Marv Levy-31, John Mackovic-30, Frank Gansz-8). Sure we didn’t win the Super Bowl at all, but he turned the corner for Chiefs Football. So quit hating on Schottenheimer. And wait, Herm was just making the statement that we followed the rules. Seems to me like the Rams and Bucs were cheating, because we had scheduled visits with Josh Brown and Jeff Faine. Neither one of them showed up. Players play for whoever. No matter if they like or dislike the coaches. Of course now a days, its all about money. That’s all these players play for anyway. I agree with Chief Tom, if you don’t like Herm or are just going to dis the Chiefs, then start rooting for the faggot ass Raiders or Broncos. To all Chiefs fans out there that are going to protest by not showing up to Chiefs games because they hate Herm Edwards, go be a fan of another team, because you guys are a f***ing discrace if all your going to do is dis the Chiefs. Everybody always says, why didn’t we get this guy, its all Herm’s fault. News flash, were not the New York Yankees.

  7. I can’t wait to hear Herm’s excuses when we can’t block anyone this year. I bet he says that the defense is cheating.

    Comment by Bryan — March 25, 2008 @ 3:56 pm

  8. You know everyone is so low on Herm, but how the heck are we supposed to build a team if we don’t get youth added to the squad.. our average age before he arrived was like 82!!! a season like we had last season was bound to happen…

Look I was really frustrated last year, but I understood that we needed to make changes and he’s making them, through the draft.. and the draft choices that he has made so far have been pretty good.. (don’t count Justin Medlock.. lol)

As far as Bill Cower… how many freaking years in Pittsburgh did it take him to win one???? Herm’s been here two seasons only… give him a chance and I’m sure he’ll be appreciated…

It’s not good enough just to be average, you win the Superbowl by building through the draft (e.g Giants!!) not by signing 20 free agents and spending all your money like Oakland just did… look at what happened to the Redskins when they tried that for the past 5-6 seasons…

I’m frustrated, but I’m willing to give Herm another couple of years… that’s just me

& believe me it’s not easy cause I live in Orlando and I fly to KC to watch their games.. it sucks when you travel all those miles to see your team lose…

But I still love the team and I respect what Herm is trying to do… now Carl Peterson.. that’s another story!!!! lol

  9. I hate to break the news to everyone but the Raiders and Broncos are better teams now and will probably beat the chiefs twice next season. And for Cower one superbowl in 20 years is better than any chiefs coach has done in 20 years.

    Comment by Joe — March 25, 2008 @ 6:36 pm

  10. First of all, the Broncos may be better but the Raiders are sure as hell not. They had the same record as us. Them being better than us would’ve meant a 5-11 record for the Faggots (Raiders). And what, are you a raiders fan Joe. Its actually spelled Cowher. And everybody, its not Herm’s fault, Peterson is the one that makes all the free agent decisions.

    Comment by KC Chiefs #1 — March 25, 2008 @ 7:13 pm

  11. A) Yeah, I don’t like Herm; it’s not because the Chiefs are at their lowest point in a while. I don’t like his coaching style and his constant contradictory comments.

    B) I was a big fan of Marty despite not winning a Super Bowl. For the record, I also liked Dick Vermeil and Gunther Cunningham. I feel like we bailed on Gun a bit early though.

    C) Herm is definitely not the only one to blame here, Carl has been the driving force behind this franchise for nearly 20 years, he shares all the ups and downs as well.

    D) For someone who’s driven on building and progressing through a youth movement, he sure did bail on Medlock pretty quick. Yes, his performance was sub-par, but he’s a rookie kicker, do you expect him to be a vetern Vinatieri his first year in the pros? Also, I don’t recall Benny Sapp or Jimmy Wilkerson being eligible for AARP yet, and we didn’t seem to care where they ended up. Yes, Herm was a DB, but does that really mean we can depend on coaching undrafted rookies to be pro-level DBs?

    E) As far as being a Chiefs fan, I’ll move to a foreign country and become a die hard soccer or polo fan before I rout for the Denver Donkeys or the Oakland Convicts. Disagree with me all you want, but I’m still a Chiefs fan through and through.

  12. So let me get this straight, all you herm supporters really believe that our great coach shouldve by no means lost his job after a 4 and 12 season? Yes, we do need youth, but did we really need to lose our all-pro center? our how about the super fast samie parker who might i remind you starting to catch the ball, and wouldve made a perfect slot reciever? And how about the fact that the one position that couldve waited to get rebuilt (LB) turns out to be the one position he goes out for in free agency. No lets not worry about the offensive line, croyle is tough enough to handle it. lets not worry about receiver, we got jeff webb. Demario Williams was a good move, dont get me wrong. But im sayin, we needed help in so many other places. I bleed red and yellow, and i will never stop lovin this team, but this will not stop me from being realistic. This “dynamic duo” of herm the perm and queen carl is ripping this franchise apart. Just look at this comment board. Never before have I ever seen chiefs fans burning chiefs fans. Its ridiculous. There are fans on this site that could pull a 4 and 12 record and still keep the fans united. Now we talk of protest? You just cant defend that.

draft, herm edwards and carl peterson should be
commited to an insane asylum.and oh i almost forgot
    RAIDERS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Ya, i’m a herm fan and no i don’t think he should have been fired. CP is behind all the FA moves and what did he do for our o-line last year? Damion? WOW! One guy that was a little better than the guy before, and he gets injured….that equates to nothing in my book. You can say all you want about the chiefs but you talk to ANYONE who knows football. The games is won in the trenches and if you have an O-line as disgraceful as ours (Except Brian Waters, thank GOD you stuck around man! Trust me i would understand if you didn’t) then you are gonna go 4-12 every year. Even with Tom Brady back there its gonna be the same problem. maybe 6-10 if you’re lucky w/ Brady as our QB. So quit your bitchin about coaching. It, for the most part, i reitterate for the MOST part, not his fault!

My A+ awards from the 2007 season.
Jared Allen, what a beast! Congrats on being the sack leader!
D-Bo! Proves he could step in and compete with the best in the league even when the expects said there was no true 1st round WR in the draft.
Last but not least! Tony G! Blowing up the record book! Get that donkey outta there!!!

  16. All of the Herm bashing aside last years “Train Wreck” is squarely on the hands of Carl P. When Willie Rolf hung up his cleats before the ‘06 season the writing was on the wall for the O-line. Carl failed to prepare for that and thats his J O B!! The O-line of the 02-04 time frame was truly special. Sadly is was wasted on a team without a legitimate Defense. No surprise that Will Shields would soon follow (he did in 07) and Casey Wigman wasn’t getting younger. Casey needed a strong cast on both sides to provide cover for him against the mammoth NG/DT types he faced. He could get overpowered without two solid anchors on either side.

Our MUST have positions right now are LT, RT, C and CB. You can’t evaluate the QB position until you can protect the guy and give him a running game to count on as well. Of course a solid WR, FB and a second and third DB would be welcomed as well. It will be a long season.

  17. Let’s give Herm a chance to see how things shake out in the next couple of years through the draft. Worst case scenario is if he can’t coach, then hopefully we will have drafted some pretty good picks for the next coach to work with. I for one wanted the Tennesse receiver instead of Bowe…..was I wrong! Youth is where the game is headed and Herm inherited a mess to start out with ( thanks GM) . Go chiefs!
