Chiefs Trade Allen to Vikings

Chiefs Trade Allen to Vikings

April 22nd, 2008 @ 11:09 pm; ChiefsWarpath.com

[ESPN.com] Jared Allen, the franchise player for the Kansas City Chiefs, is heading to a new franchise, the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple sources.

Late Tuesday night, the Chiefs and the Vikings reached an agreement on a trade package, and at roughly the same time, Allen reached an agreement in principle on a contract with the Vikings. Upon reaching the contract agreement, Allen headed to the airport and left for Minnesota.

Sources indicated the Vikings might have had to include a second third-round pick (No. 73) in the 2008 draft to get the deal done. They had been offering a No. 1 pick (17th in the first round) and a No. 3 (No. 82). Terms of Allen’s new contract weren’t available.

Updated: NFL.com is reporting that the Chiefs will receive the Vikings’ first-round pick (No. 17) and both of their third-round selections (No. 73 and No. 82) in this weekend’s NFL draft.

Allen, according to the Fox Sports website, will become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. His new contract will be for six years and just shy of $74 million. Allen told Fox this includes $31,000,069 guaranteed.

Updated: It’s official, Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to trade Jared Allen to Minnesota in exchange for a first-round pick (17th overall) and two third-round choices (73rd and 82nd overall). In addition, the two clubs also exchanged picks in the sixth round. The Chiefs acquired the Vikings 182nd overall selection, while Minnesota received the Chiefs 187th overall pick.

  1. See ya, Jared. You overperformed last season and have nowhere to go but down. Try to stay off the sauce, or else you’ll have a year to think about other things to do in Minnesota. Chief fans, we got a first and two third round picks for a fourth rounder. Sounds like a damn good deal to me.

  2. I am pleased with this deal. Bring on Chris Long or Vernon Gohlston

  3. i like this three picks in the third round bring on sedrick ellis and brandon albert

  4. I love how it seems everyone is coming together again in the Chiefs kingdom. You are going to have a hard time arguing that this doesn’t make sense on so many levels.

We now have five of the first 82 picks in the first three rounds and thirteen overall. Not only are we going to fill all of our holes, many of those holes are going to the top talent in the draft. We are setting ourselves up to be the youngest, most talented team in the league for the next five years.

Jared was overvalued anyway. No one has led the league in sacks with as few as 15.5 since John Randle a decade ago in 1997. His two fluky touchdowns and personality made hime a fan favorite, but he was never more than an overachieving fourth round draft pick out of Idaho State.

Go Chiefs. I am so excited about the draft that I may not go to work for the rest of the week.

  5. I sincerely hope you are all right on the money!! But let me bring you down to reality! Carl Peterson has not had steller drafts! Of the slew of draft picks we have this year there is a better chance than not that half we select will not pan out! And if some do go on to have great careers, it will be three years down the road before most produce results! So basically what Herm and Carl have done is guarantee that they will have three more years of employment with a very bad team! (rebuilding excuse). In another year this might have been viewed as a good move, but in this scenario it is a sellout to save jobs and more justification to go on losing! I for one want a winner and going with constant youth is no way to go! Because with this group of management as soon as they mature, they will be gone and another decade of losing is guaranteed! Wake up Chiefs fans and do not let this lame group of Chiefs leaders off the hook! Any way you spin it, this is a bad move!!! Like I said , I hope I’m wrong, but a slew of draft picks make no sense unless you have people that can groom them to be succesful! And we don’t! Sorry to rain on the parade of excitment for this weekend! But winning the draft is not the ultimate goal!!!!!!!!

  7. Jared Allen, an overachiever? Lets take a look at this. Jared Allen had 15.5 sacks in 14 games with a horrible secondary. Jared was getting tripled teamed all the time because we had Hali and 2 no name DTs, and he still had 15.5 sacks. Jared Allen is a stud and his personality was that of a KC fan. I will miss his heart and tenasity. Lets take a look at Peterson. In 19 years with the Chiefs, he has won 3 playoff games, 2 of which were in the same year. The reason he is still in KC is because he made Lamar (God Bless his soul) a lot of money. Bottom line. The Chief fans have sold out every game in the last decade and a half. People talk about Green Bay, lets talk about KC Fans, its long overdue. Don’t even get me started on his past draft picks, no argument needed. Its a shame to us, the fans, that he still has a job. Herm is Carl’s puppet, heck watch the HBO training Camp shows. But you know what, I bleed red and gold, and I will remain loyal till the end. I agree with goldzone 44, the rebuilding is an excuse. It seems like we rebuild every year since Marty left. Draft needs: OL, CB, DT, DE, QB, WR, FB, and mostly GM.

  8. The point of the comment section is to voice an opinion! People that leave one sentence responses with nothing valuable to gain from the comment are simply wasting space! As a Chiefs fan I do hope that I am wrong about the direction the Chiefs are taking! Unfortunately, I have all the facts, figures and past history to back up what I share! Herm supporters will be the ones eating their words because history has already taught us that!

  9. I would rather not comment until after seeing how well our front line will do this year. I sure hope its the right decision, he was one player i really liked on the team, i feel he really got the energy going on the field. I must admit, i dont know alot about the people coming out of college, so i am uneducation in that dept. I just hope it was a good decision.

  10. I don’t understand it but its done. Time to move on. WE have another huge hole in the team, let’s hope the cork they pick fits as good as the one they pulled out. We are going to need another DE now, get that with the 5th pick (Gholston or C. Long)and take the best LT with the 17th pick. I’d really like to see them trade LJ, he will be injured again this year because he’s unhappy too. We’ll probably have the first pick in next years draft, so I say give Brodie another chance. We can get the best QB next year, maybe Chase Daniel.

    Comment by Jeff R. — April 23, 2008 @ 6:26 am

  11. Now we need to get ahold of the Patriots and see if we can do a trade for there spot. This would give us Three more draft picks so we would then draft at #7. Depending on who gets drafted then when the Chiefs come up @ #7 and say Ryan is on the board then we talk trade again by threatning to take Matt Ryan and pick up hopefully the Ravens #8 Pick and two. Then we would wind up with 19 picks and still have the 17th overall with players

  14. I would like to start by saying I am NOT a Herm/Carl supporter. And, I am a HUGE Jared Allen fan. But, whats done is done now on to the draft. What happens this weekend will ultimately decide whether this was a good move or not. I wish Jared well with his new team. At least we don’t play the Vike’s in ‘08 or ‘09.

  15. Herm Edwards is like a icee, its great for a little while and then you get brain freeze and scream “ahhhhh”. But somehow you always take another drink.

    Comment by Dave — April 23, 2008 @ 8:14 am

  16. To all Herm and Carl haters:

Take the blinders off. I agree that Herm is not a great coach. I know that he has been, and can be, successful though. I agree that not all of Carl’s draft day picks have worked. I also know that he’s always drafted in the murky middle part of the draft and has never reached for a player. He may have drafted a position where another was needed, but he’s never taken chances on guys whose didn’t grade well. Players like Ryan Simms bust…that’s life. The rest of the league had their eyes on him also.

This is a very exciting time to be a Chief fan. We are finally getting the opportunity to build a new regime of players who are young and talented. A large class of top draft picks will have an identity in Kansas City that won’t soon be forgotten. I believe that we will look back on this day as a changing point in the franchise that propels back to consistent winning.

Chiefs fans, take off the Herm/Carl hater glasses and press your finest red and gold Chiefs polo. Grab the grill, stock the cooler, and enjoy being part of the Chiefs kingdom. Things will get better. Things will get better this year. Things will get much better the next three years. Enjoy the ride.

  17. Are you kidding me? I am laughing so hard right now it’s hard to type. The Vikes just gave Jared Allen $31 million guaranteed?!?!?! Congratulations Jared, you just pulled off the biggest bank heists in history. Seriously, that’s one of the best business moves I’ve ever seen. I guess you will get to a Super Bowl, but buying as many Super Bowl tickets as you want, becuase no team quarterbacked by Tavaris Jackson is ever going to sniff a playoff win.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 8:34 am

  18. that is alotta $$$$$. cant really blame jared for not taking that. we are still gonna suck this year. even with 5 of the first 82 picks how many time have u seen a 1st, 2nd, 3rd round pick be an impact player in their rookie season. we’ll be good someday with these picks hopefully but the hurtin’ is still on for this year.

    Comment by Toby — April 23, 2008 @ 8:36 am

  19. Dwayne Bowe last year. Just one example.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 8:41 am

  20. This is probably the best deal we were going to get. I saw a rumor elsewhere that the Vikings threatened to sign Allen to an offer sheet which would have been effective after the draft so KC would not have got any picks for the ‘08 Draft.

Whoever’s saying that Carl’s not had the best draft history is right on the money. We should be very worried (since these guys find gems like Ryan Sims, Junior Siavii, etc. in the 1st/2nd rounds) and sincerely hope that Carl takes all these extra picks (#17 and 2 of those 3rd rounders) and tries to get up as close to the Top 10 as he can and get Albert or Clady along with Matt Ryan, Gholston, or Chris Long at #5.

    Comment by Chiefs Fan — April 23, 2008 @ 8:48 am

  21. im not sayin there isnt a chance ray. we will have quite a few good rookies this year but what are chances all 5 of them blossom this year. not so good.

    Comment by Toby — April 23, 2008 @ 8:53 am

  22. So in effect we lose Jared Allen to trade DOWN to the 17th pick? Think about it, if we use the 5th pick overall to replace Jared, we’ve effectively traded down… not to mention his replacement won’t be as good. So for downgrading at DE and trading down from 5th to 17th we get two 3rd round picks? Not worth it. Not even close.

Get as excited as you want, but if this management keeps letting all the ~26 year olds go (Allen, Sapp, Wilkerson, Wilson, Parker, Fox, etc) because they’re “old” this team will forever be “rebuilding”. It’s a joke and i’m outta gas. There’s nothing left to discuss until Herm and Peterson are gone. They’ve proven what they are. No discussion necessary. Thanks for ruining my fun. Time for a new hobby until they’re gone. Repeatedly punching myself in the groin sounds just as productive as following the Chiefs under these fools and cold business men.

    Comment by VLTC — April 23, 2008 @ 8:54 am

  23. If you’re tired of puching yourself in the groin, VLTC, I would be more than happy to help you out. Did you just suggest that we pay Benny Sapp, Sammie Parker, and Fox? Yeah, you would clearly be a much better GM.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 9:16 am

  24. It’s not about Sapp, Parker or Fox in particular. It’s about letting go of these still young players who are still good backups (well Sapp, Wilkerson and maybe Fox) and replacing them with who we haven’t even met yet. Fact is, all those players signed with other teams WHO ARE BETTER THAN US. If they’re good enough for those teams, they’re definitely good enough for a team who doesn’t even have a full roster!

How much did Sapp, Wilkerson or Fox get? Oh yeah, near minimum. Big whoop.

How about this fact: At this moment both Sapp and Wilkerson would be starters on our team thanks to the departures of Law and Allen.

    Comment by VLTC — April 23, 2008 @ 9:22 am

  25. CHRIS LONG would be a very good replacement for Jared Allen he is the same kind of player that jared was only Long doesn’t have a getting caught drunk problem that jared does. If jared would have got caught again he would have been suspended for A YEAR.

  28. You think so ray.

    Comment by Kyle — April 23, 2008 @ 9:35 am

  29. No, on the contrary. I was giving an example of a first day draftee that made an immediate impact.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 9:37 am

  30. I agree that Long and Gholston both have a lot of potential. But some people consider Allen the best DE in the game right now. Statistically speaking, it’s very unlikely that any single/particular drafted DE (even if the highest pick) will ever reach that status. Therefore by all accounts, it is highly probable that going from Allen to Long (or Gholston) would be a significant downgrade.

    Comment by VLTC — April 23, 2008 @ 9:38 am

  31. Jared Allen, Dwayne Bowe, Dustin Colquitt, Tony Gonzalez, Derrick Johnson, Larry Johnson, Jarrod Page, bernard Pollard, Brian Waters, greg wesley, will shields. These are just a few names of players that carl peterson have drafted. He’s made some good moves but no draft pick is a gurantee. There have been so many 1st round busts by every team in the league. There are so many factors to why a player develops right. Look at Tom Brady no body wanted him but he fell into a great coach and team and now hes one of the best ever.

    Comment by James — April 23, 2008 @ 9:45 am

  32. VLTC what if Allen gets another DUI? like he has twice in the past years! then he’ll be suspended for a year which would kill our team. i’d rather have Chris long playing for us than having Allen on the sidelines wasting our money all cuz he loves to get drunk

    Comment by mike — April 23, 2008 @ 9:46 am

  33. Typical desperation. Quoting “fair weather fan” whenever someone points out faults. My point was obviously a protest of management, not the Chiefs. Herm and Carl are lame ducks right now. They’re fate is sealed, just like George Bush. People don’t really complain about Bush anymore, its not worth the effort. He’s already proven what he is and he’s on his way out. That’s my point about the current management. They’ve proven what they are and there’s little left to discuss about it. That’s where i need a new hobby, because pointing out the obvious about Herm and Peterson and getting excited about the direction of this team no longer serves a purpose. People have decided what they believe and there’s no room for dialog anymore.

Also, thanks for agreeing i was right, Ray, by resorting to a personal attack instead of being able to refute my points.

    Comment by VLTC — April 23, 2008 @ 9:48 am

  34. I agree that either rookie may not produce 15+ sacks in 2008. However, I know that Jared Allen is not worth close to $74 million. Getting three players who will be with the team for the next five plus seasons in return for a guy who was only going to play 16 more games for the franchise just makes sense. Don’t forget the fact that two third round picks will produce a starter on the offensive line and cornerback or wide receiver. It makes the team better. Some poeple believe that Jared Allen is the redneck version of Jesus Christ. Sorry, I’ve never bought that. Part of the fan appeal with Allen is his good ‘ol boy personality and motor. That doesn’t make him bigger than the team, which he believed he was. Time to move on.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 9:48 am

  35. So who’s next LJ, Tony G., Donnie? When was the last time that a team had 50 first, second, or third year players on their team and won anything? I mean it is great that we are getting younger, but for the young guys to learn and succeed they need at least a little bit of veteran leadership. We have only 3 now.

    Comment by Robert — April 23, 2008 @ 9:51 am

  36. Yes, the DUI thing is definitely a risk. Personally, i believe Allen and the reports that he’s wised up and even given up drinking. So personally i don’t consider it a very high risk, but nothing is guaranteed.

    Comment by VLTC — April 23, 2008 @ 9:51 am

  37. Basic math refutes your points. Jared Allen doesn’t equal the #5 pick. It’s the #17 and two third rounders. As far as the fair weather, you brought that upon yourself when you said you’d find better things to do, including puching your junk. Don’t take things so personally. We’re both evidentally passionate about the franchise; all I want is the negative thinkers to enjoy the current opportunity rather than dwell on their hatred for management. I’m not asking you to kiss Carl. I’m asking Chiefs fans to show support for the thirteen new guys who will be part of the team in less than a week.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 9:53 am

  38. I have an uncle who gave up drinking. He is so good at it, he’s given up drinking seven different times. I can’t imagine what he would have done with 31 million rounds.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 9:56 am

  39. 1) When you draft someone you don’t have exclusive rights for “5+ years”. This year proves it more than ever.

    2) Contract amount should be almost a non-issue for the Chiefs. With the current direction of the team, we aren’t even going to sniff the cap. I don’t think 20 rookie free-agents are going to bust the cap, do you?

    3) 3rd round picks are not guaranteed starters like you claim. Is Turk (2nd round) and Tank (3rd round) starters? Ha! We’d be lucky if one of them is a QUALIFIED NFL starter this year.

    Comment by VLTC — April 23, 2008 @ 9:57 am

  40. I’m not sure what your points are. Rookie contracts are typically five to six years. I realize we have cap space; spending and average of $12M per year on a DE is still silly. I didn’t guarantee that a third round pick would be a starter, but for this team right now they will be.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 10:02 am

  41. Hey, i was a complete optimist Chiefs fan for 10+ years before Herm. But the direction and decisions of the team since Herm’s hiring has left me filled with frustration and anger on a regular basis instead of the usual hope, excitement, and fun.

I just don’t enjoy the way Herm manages a game, plans a game, or manages the team. I’m not against getting younger, i just happen to think 26 year old pro bowlers have a lot left to offer. I don’t think you have to completely throw in the towel like this to rebuild. You should always strive to be competitive b/c you can’t predict the future. Completely tanking now doesn’t guarantee we’ll be good in 3 years.

And yes, high first rounders often get long rookie contracts. 3rd rounders do not.

    Comment by VLTC — April 23, 2008 @ 10:13 am

  42. Well let’s all hope that the clouds over the Truman Sports complex fade away and Herm lets Chan and Gun do their jobs. Maybe it’ll be more fun for you and everyone else to watch. One way or the other, I’ll have a beer for you anytime you want to stop by my tailgate.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 10:16 am

  43. I just hope that King Carl doesn’t sink our ship this weekend. It’s nice that the Chiefs have 13 picks, but how many of those picks are going to pan out. We don’t have a history of doing well in the draft and if we continually trade good players we are never going to have a foundation to build on. I know we are rebuilding, but I think we need to start by getting rid of Peterson. We can’t have someone who clashes with players and chase them out of town. There are too many holes in the Chiefs right now and not enough picks to fill them.

    Comment by Mike — April 23, 2008 @ 10:17 am

  44. What? Over rated? Homer homer homer!!!! It’s sucks Jarred is gone but don’t say he’s over rated to make your selfs feel better. Herm’s plan is funny. What happens when all this “young” talent plays how we and the coaches want them to? Their going to bail just like Allen did. Herm is banking on loyalty? Ridiculous!

    Comment by Robert — April 23, 2008 @ 10:18 am

  45. Alright Ray, you’ve inspired a little twinkling of hope for fun out of me. There’s few things an offer of a beer can’t fix. I’ll never stop hoping we replace Herm, but i’ll try to enjoy the little things in the meantime.

    Comment by VLTC — April 23, 2008 @ 10:26 am

  46. I agree with Carl on this one. A mid level 1st and 3rd was too little. Two 3rds seems about right. This draft is short on “John Elways” but very deep on quality players. The three 3rds will have an impact particularly at DB, interior OL and WR. Too put it in perspective, the Chiefs have about 14-15 quality players and almost as many picks with as much value as an expansion team. In fact I would like to see them trade down with the number 5 pick to around the New Orleans level. It is exciting to see how they develop and it may be faster than folks think today.

    Comment by wgslaw — April 23, 2008 @ 10:52 am

  47. You also heard of a guy name Derrick Thomas, how about him. He was a pretty good person in the Peterson era. All though i don’t like peterson he has done some good things in the draft. he has also done some bad picks to. (siavi, sims)

    Comment by matt — April 23, 2008 @ 11:03 am

  48. We all can sit here and argue all day about what our future holds. Only time will tell come Saturday though. I just hope we don’t make any stupid moves and draft another RB or something that isn’t one of our top needs (OL, DE, CB to name a few).

    Comment by Dave — April 23, 2008 @ 11:30 am

  49. Like I have said before, the Cheifs will continue to fail until Peterson is gone, and or the franchise is sold to someone who knows how to run a NFL franchise!!!!!

  50. I should learn how to spell, sorry “Chiefs”

    Comment by Glen — April 23, 2008 @ 1:42 pm

  51. I think this is a horrible deal. What is the logic? Like a friend of mine said, it’s like winning the lottery and spending all the winnings on more lottery tickets.

    Typical crappy, flawed Peterson-ian logic.

    Comment by Kenedamick — April 23, 2008 @ 1:46 pm

  52. Hey Matt - the Derrick Thomas draft choice was mostly orchestrated by Marty Schottenheimer.

Peterson’s draft credentials and record speak for themselves. One playoff win in 15 years.

The chiefs have contradicted their own philosophy of building a team with young players and locking them up.

Like I said above, they already raised Allen to be a complete bad ass and he is 26 years old. If they end up drafting, say, Gholston or Long, then that is plain wasteful. You already had a piece of gold.

Terrible, predictable logic out of Peterson. What does this guy have to do to get fired?

    Comment by Kenedamick — April 23, 2008 @ 1:51 pm

  53. Let’s be clear about something. Peterson put the franchise in this position to begin with. He ignored the blaring needs of the team way too long. He should be blamed for that.

However, let’s be clear about something else. This deal, at this point, due to the statement I just mentioned, is in the best interests of the franchise. It was a necessary evil. Simply put, Jared Allen is not worth more than three potential starters at positions that may or may not include defensive end. If and when this works out, Peterson deserves the credit for acknowledging that fact and having the balls to make this blockbuster deal.

    Comment by Ray — April 23, 2008 @ 1:59 pm

  54. I was pissed when I heard what the chiefs planned on doing with Jared Allen, I had a lot of hatred thoughts going through my mind… Then I began to come back to reality, this was going to happen eventually. There was already bad blood between carl and allen.. Say that we kept him and he was franchised, allen did not want that so he was going to ask for a trade anyways.. Its good we got what we got instead of nothing next year…. Is he worth that kind of money, I dont know.. he’s still young and getting better, was he a risk, MAYBE..Could we afford to pay him that kind of money, probably not. I was a big fan of Jared and still am, I think we could have gotten a better first round pick for him. Lets face the facts, carl has paid alot of money to guys like, kendrell bell,ty law, pat surtain, damion macintosh, … none of them have produced half as much as jared, YET WE FAILED TO PAY HIM, GO CHIEFS, forever red and gold

    Comment by blazednkc — April 23, 2008 @ 2:15 pm

  55. I think its extremely unlikely we’d get 3 NFL starters from the 3 picks we got. I think we’d be fortunate to get 1 NFL starter from the two extra 3rd rounders. Of course, you won’t have to be an NFL starter to start for the Chiefs this year… you’ll just have to be able to distinguish between an american football and a soccer ball and you’re in.

The last few 3rd rounders we’ve got:
    downing
    minnis
    battle
    fox
    colquitt
    croyle
    tyler

That’s a lot of marginal talent. But, hopefully we’ll get lucky. I’d put the over/under at 5 eventual NFL quality starters out of our 13 picks. With all the rookie-FA we pick up with our roster space, maybe we’ll luck out with 7 starters. That would be pretty good in context of there being only 24 starting positions on the team.

  56. im glad is ass is gone in like 2 years he is gonna suck look at dewight frenney they paid him so much money then he gets hurt and is prolly gonna suck next year i cant wait we have 2 #1’s in the top 20 Hello Hello can u say Vernon Gholston or Chris Long and Brandon Albert or Ryan Clady or Jeff Otah or even chris whilliams we are gonna fill all of our needs just because some over paid DE wanted out so i thank Jerad Allen for helping us and feel sorry for the vikes who wont even have enough money to pay for thier draft picks

  57. Allen didnt want to be in kc. He said he woundnt sign a longterm contract, so dealing him now when we can get good compensation makes sense to me. I think the chiefs have drafted much better since herm came to town (bowe, tyler), so Im excited to see who we get. The colts & pats were two of the lamest teams for a long time until they had some good drafts,so relax.

  58. goldzone - You posting again is all the proof i need that you talk too much.

I like what i see in a few mocks that have us takin Dorsey or Gohlston and then using our extra third round picks to help trade up in front of denver and takin Clady still too, haha that would be so aweomse! F*ckin donkey’s.

(P.s. Goldzone, there is an opinion, happy?)

  59. here are some facts people…..king carl was hired to do one thing, fill the stands and make ownership money (playoff wins and superbowl wins do not have to factor in this equation to make money). he was successful at that and that is a simple business plan. but on the other hand he has done as much damage to the chiefs than he has done good. there is an old saying, “even a blind pig can find an acorn every now and then”, meaning with all the draft picks over king carls tenure, odds are you are going to get a couple of “keepers”. i agree we could not pay jared the kind of money he got from the vikes. but it appears we are putting a lot of our eggs in one basket (1/4 of team rookies). you need constant influx, and the right mix of veterens and rookies to remain on top of this league. the key here is the right mix!! this year we will have to many unproven rookies to be competitave (my opinion). further more, if you want to get managements attention, you have to hit them where it hurts…….the pocket book!! remember, although this is a game, it is formost a business!! like any business, we the consumers of this product, should have alot to say about the direction the team is going through our dollars. i am frustrated enough that i dropped my season tickets this year. and before you all say i am not a true fan, you can get off that bandwagon, because i hate to see the chiefs in such a mess!! that IS managements fault!! i just dont want them to think i approve of the direction this team is going, so I choose not to spent my dollars at arrowhead anymore until I see it is worth it! i just dont want management to get the wrong message.

  60. Finally he is gone. What a relief!!!!! The first thing he probably does is buy him and his buddies shots at the bar in Minnesota and attempt to drive to his oversized mansion drunk before getting pulled over for a DUI. Then get suspended for the season. Im tired of going onto CHIEFSWARPATH.COM hoping and praying that I dont see this guys name on the page about another DUI. He is good but is his alcohol problem worth the risk. A first and two thirds is a clear indication that he is not worth the risk……..ESPECIALLY HIM BEING A FOURTH ROUND PICK. What a steal!!!!!! Now all we have to do is cash it in. I just cant stop thinking about guys who overplay during contract season and then underperform or get hurt. Just to name a few……LJ, Priest Holmes, Jamal Anderson, Dwight Freeney, Jeavon Kearse, Damion McIntosh, Vonnie Holiday, Patrick Surtain, Eddie George, Larry Brown (ROTFLMAO @ SuperBowl MVP),Duante Culpepper, Eric Warfield…..etc the list goes on and on. Long story short, thanks for the DRAFT PICKS JARED ALLEN.

  61. Three picks and a shift in the 6th round!!! guys this is a really good deal… when rebuilding a team we can’t afford to pay someone $74 million!!!!

13 picks and from what I hear we are talking to maybe New England or Jets to switch pics in the first round and get additional pics in the 2nd or 3rd rounds…

Maybe Herm knows what he’s doing… (but I still don’t believe in Carl!!!!)

  62. I think this is a great deal! Are we going to find next year’s sack leader with any of our picks? Probably not. But keep in mind that he wanted out! It wasn’t like Peterson traded him just to get more picks…he simply answered Jared’s demands AND got the Vikings to give up more than they should have.

I would love to see Chris Long taken at #5. Much better than Gholston or Ryan - they will be busts in the NFL, mark my words.

  64. I’m a Chiefs fan from Vegas since we don’t have a team. I’ve been a true fan for 16 years. Every year, I travel to San Diego or Arizona when Chiefs play at their stadium. Three years ago, San Diego was filled with red jerseys. People there were actually pissed to see as many red jerseys as they saw blue. Hmmm California, don’t they have three teams. Whether the Chief are good or bad next year…I will support them always…Go Chiefssssssss

  65. We will see. Personally I dont agree with this whole deal. How can you trade off a Pro Bowl player and hope to get lucky on draft day, especially with Carl Peterson controling things. We saw what he did last year with the kicker from UCLA, his pick! There are a lot of College studs who dont amount to squat in the NFL, no matter how high they draft! I figure three years ought to tell the tale. There are no guarantees in the draft, none! Ive been a Chiefs fan for forty years, remember watching Super Bowl IV, the great battles between them and Oakland and it all seems like a distant memory. If I dont see a team that can compete for a title in three years, then Carl Peterson and Co. should be run out of town, Period.

  66. FatDaNn,
Atta Boy! We can agree! I knew we’d find something! Denver Sucks!
But you must agree that 60% to 70% percent of the fans on this site agree with me and talk even more than I! So ease up big guy! We’re in the same boat as Chiefs fans! We’re all searching for answers and you simply can’t say that the team is in good hands right now! Can You?

  67. Am I the only guy who has a job. You guys are on here all day(I’m jealous). I liked Hoss, but bottom line 15.5 sacks only equated to 4 wins! Marty ball we had a great D and no O, Vermeil days we had the best offense and no playoff wins. We need a balanced team. We are rebuilding through the draft and that will not produce more than 5 or 6 wins next season, but 2009, 2010. WATCH OUT! Maybe Cower will have the reigns. Bowe will be the best receiver in the game but, poor Tony “Boom Boom” Gonzalez will be retired, but hopefully LJ has some life in him. I can’t wait. I think I’ll save my Sunday Ticket money in 2008. I’m a true fan, but gas will be $4.00 a gallon this summer! Does anyone realize the Raiders are picking ahead of us? They will take who ever we were planning on taking. BASTARDS! 2 first rounders. Remember who our last 2 first rounders were? Maas and Alt. Not bad. I’m an out of state Chiefs fan and its late and I’m just rambling on. Good luck Carl. May the force be with you.

  68. Here’s too you, Mr. overated redneck defensive end guy. So you played in Idaho and you grow a motorcycle mustache and you like to drink in drive and listen to country. We salute you for being our fan favorite. Your TD on offense made me scream so loud, it woke the baby. Then the wife cursed the chiefs for my outburst. Yes, you can blame her for the 4-12 season and worse yet, for the lost to the FAIDERS!!!!!
Good luck # 69. You made the number as popular…well as the #69.

    GO CHIEFS!

  73. I still think the Chiefs are quietly transferring to a 3-4 defense which is linebacker driven. Thats why I think we signed Demario Williams.

  74. I think Herm has done a pretty good JOB so far in the draft. Look at Jared Page, Demarcus Tyler, Turk McBride, Tambi Hali, D-Bowe, Benard Pollard, Jarrad Page, not to mention UFA Tyrone Brackenridge. So Im looking forward to see what he accomplishes when he draft for mainly offense.
