With the 5th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected DT Glenn Dorsey out of LSU.
Dorsey (6′2″, 316) was named a consensus All-American and the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2007. He was also named the Nagurski Award, Lombardi Award, Outland Trophy and Lott Award winners this past season.
In 51 games at LSU, Dorsey started 30 times. He collected 179 tackles (83 solos) with 13.0 sacks for minus 93 yards, 27 stops for losses of 123 yards and seven quarterback pressures. He caused and recovered a fumble and also deflected four passes.

I have to say that it is a great pick. The defense will not drop much at all in the rankings!

i dont understand ..trade a de then draft a de…why didnt they just keep the de?
Comment by JC — April 26, 2008 @ 5:29 pm
JC - probably had to do with payin JA his big time check and the number 5 at the same time…King Carl probably wanted to save money for his vacation.
Comment by FatDaNn — April 26, 2008 @ 5:57 pm
before the draft i was hoping he would fall to us and team with JA, Boone, and Hali to make one of the best D lines in the league.

Dorsey is a DT. Not DE. Awesome pick though.
Comment by Dave — April 26, 2008 @ 6:06 pm
awesome pick up, cant believe he dropped to us. this offseason might not go that bad. great character guy, and most likely to have the most impact next season.
my guess as for why peterson let Allen go, maybe he knew something about Allen not being completely sober. if allen gets in any trouble in the next year or so, the vikings are going to be the ones in trouble. because allen will be no good on the sidelines.

The football gods are smiling on us guys, we lucked out like never before(except DT). This guy is a leader that you build your entire team around. I dont know if you watched the draft but Dorsey looked the happiest of all of the top 5 to hoist his new jersey……..welcome to the new kansas city chiefs, we’ve had a bad ass draft so far, I still am prayin that we get ray rice from rutgers though, he’d be a good compliment to lj, or replacement for him.

The only spots we have left to fill are O-line but from the way it looks now none are of starting talent in first year. Our next need is WR and TE and there are some steals out there for those positions. We still need a kicker and sad to say it for wasting a third round last year. we don’t need a RB or a QB We need a WR then more O line and get a TE hopefully Rucker. Rucker should fall to the fourth. Absolute best day one ever and with nine picks to go we should fill almost every hole with extremely competitive players.

Apparently JC doesnt know the difference between DT and DE. We didnt draft a DE lol.

With all the bad sh!t that has happened so far this off-season. I am now feeling really good about the Chiefs immediate future!!! This has been an awesome first day of the draft!

Finally some long awaited great news!! Three impact players in day one! AWESOME!

Dorsey should be good, lets hope he pans out. Too bad though, he would have been wonderful teamed up with JA, what a line that would have been. Lets all hope that these picks work out. They all fill need areas, it could be good for the Chiefs given a little time!

Imagine if we still had Jared….goodbye QB

Ray Rice went to the ravens 55th overall. and honestly the chiefs need at least three more O linemen. you never know who will end up being a steal if you dont give them a chance.
After that address the WR spot, then maybe go after a kicker and more Defense. but look for the chiefs to try and get another high pick next year too, through trades, because it will take at least two good draft years to get back where the chiefs need to be.
oh and with all of this talk of rebuilding, and all these young guys playing for the chiefs, what if the chiefs got some new uniforms, or a new look. something that makes the rest of the league look at us and say “they are really turning things around”
Comment by KC111110 — April 26, 2008 @ 11:40 pm
If we are going to go after a kicker, all I can say is you better not go after a kicker with character issues like the goober they picked up last year, and he better be someone who can play in cold weather! That was so stupid, when the kid from Colorado who went like to picks later to Green Bay, and BEAT OUT THE COMPETITON AND WAS NOT ANDED THE JOB, is still with the Packers!
We still need to work on getting a WR, more offensive line help, another CB or two. Guys we still have ten picks left, TEN! WOW. Think about that, if we score one or two more, then, according to the so called experts we scored a major coup. All of the experts have said that on day one we are the big winners…if we can stay that way for a third, or get three of the ten players to hit, that will be six out of a draft class of thirteen, improbable yes, impossible NO!
Stick to the plan, it seems to be working so far…it is nice to say we are going to turn the corner, but this year we are still going to take our lumps! I was a pesimist coming into the draft, and I have to say that I am very encouraged by the day one draft!

KC111110 - I kinda like that idea in the sense that we should use the alternate black ones that they sell…those would be sweet!
Comment by FatDaNn — April 27, 2008 @ 10:42 am
New Uniforms??????????????? You’ve got to be kidding me!!! The Chiefs have by far the best uniforms in the league! Please do not let Herm do that to!!!! The uniforms are the one thing that Herm and Carl cannot destroy!! The uniforms will hopefully be the one thing that these clowns can’t touch and will be here long after they have left town! If Lamar Hunt even knew that this was being discussed on this website he would be rolling over in his grave!!!
Comment by goldzone44 — April 28, 2008 @ 2:35 am
Goldzone 44… you’re still upset after such a good draft?????? what’s wrong with you??? in 15 years of following the Chiefs this is the best draft we’ve had by far!!!! Herm is trying to build a team through the draft to make us a contender not just a one and out playoff team…
Give him a chance
Comment by Hubert — April 28, 2008 @ 12:29 pm
Hubert-
I loved the first day of the draft! But keep in mind either you or myself could have picked those players! The real proof in the pudding is in the second day! And those selections come with serious question marks! Remember, we were not just bad, we were VERY bad! We needed a couple more starters at least and we did get at least three and that would be great under most conditions, however this is not most conditions! And when you say give him a chance; we have given him a chance and that’s the point! Should we continue to give him a chance until he drives this franchise so deep into the ground that they will NEVER recover?? Or should we do what we can to save our beloved team? I could probably live with King Carl because we have for twenty years and he did have some success, although nothing recently! But Edwards has been nothing more than a one win one loss (or more) Coach for his career. He will not change and the Chiefs will not take it to Championship level with him at the helm. I would love to be proven wrong! Believe me! I was cheering as louding as anyone on day one of the draft! Because I am a Chiefs fan! And being a Chiefs fan I feel that without making the right changes we are destined to repeat history! And I for one am sick of waiting to get to the big game!!!!

Dorsey plays through injury b/c of his passion for the game. A motor that doesn’t quit and unstoppable penetration in the trenches make this man a great, great 1st round draft pick.
