I'm not quite sure what Carl and the "Brain Trust" were smoking on Sunday, but it doesn't appear to have been the right stuff.

They did so well with the first day and then bombed on Sunday! In case anyone's still paying attention, we still have needs on the O-Line and should have drafted two in the third round. I guess they figure Cottam, the TE from Tennessee could serve as an extra guard or tackle.

No Center and no Fullback? They only got three starters out of this draft and a nice choice in Charles from Texas to spell LJ. Dorsey had to be chosen when he slipped to 5, however now we have a few DT's and no one to replace the starter Allen. The draft clearly gives us some impact for next season, but the loss of Allen makes it a bit of a wash! Who will be the fullback blocking for LJ? Two blocking tight ends??? how about drafting one and then another Tackle? Was that ever discussed? How about a developmental QB? You're going with Croyle and an ancient Huard? If Croyle doesn't pan out wer'e screwed! The first few picks make it a good draft, however anyone could have done that with such early selections, but the real proof in the pudding are the picks in the later rounds. And those were very questionable at best! And Safety was not a position of need! They left many holes unfilled and put logjams at others! The second day of drafts requires brains and the potential to make this draft the best ever fizzled with the late round selections! The first four picks were great, but the team needed at least 6 picks to be great to make a difference! Good coaching and management could make those late round picks productive, but brace yourself myopic fans, we do not have good coaching or management. If we could have dealt Herm and Carl to fill the holes we still have then we'd be talking!

Jake I was merely pointing out the needs of our team and you just added more not to mention that you pointed out what CP is worth (55 MA) which is the same number of sacks (55) our offensive line gave up last year (tied for last with the niners). So excuse me if I wanted more offensive line help to develope. Only two years ago a certain team that risides in the state that I live started two sixth round gaurds and a seventh round center yeah they had a poor rookie outing but just last year they made it deep into the playoffs.

I like the idea of trading the GM for picks mainly because he has cost us so many, but he would only be worth a 55+ year old free agent like Morten Anderson.

Could we trade our GM for more draft picks?

I am impressed with their picks so far, although I would feel more comfortable if we had a couple high rated offensive linemen already. I realize they are usually a lower round pick, and the temptation to pick the best available is always there, but until we get some quality up front, we can't evaluate the backfield.

I rate them a B+ so far.

You can't just draft lineman and expect them all to play day one. Usually linemen are a at least a one or two year project. We have picked up C and RG in free agency both can play and will have young talented backups to compete against thats how you do it. I guess no understands the definition of starter and a contributor. There are less than 22 starters but 46 on an active roster. These three will contribute on the field just won't have the playing time of a starter. We needed a blocking TE and special teams help to fix our kickoff punting game. We got a great running back with elite speed to compliment Larry. A Michael Bennett with more power.

I think my grade for today is a C. When you don't fill the needs that are killing us last year and possibly this year will say a center another gaurd\tackle fullback quarterback so on and so on.

DeJuan Morgan is the only one who might get a chance to prove himself next year, along with Cottam's blocking abilities. but i definately see what they are doing here. they want good players for the future. this is exactly what Dick Vermiel did not do. these picks are for building the team up.

we do need to keep an eye on those O-linemen, there are still some good pickups out there. look for rounds 4-7 to be very lineman heavy. afterall if we dont get the protecion we need up front the offense is still going to be terrible. we have to be able to control the line of scrimage.

FAVORITE PICK OF THE DAY: Brad Cottam (TE) from tennesee this guy is 6'8/ 270lbs. exactly what we needed to replace Dunn & Wilson. he is the hybrid of the two and only takes one spot on the roster, great addition to protect Croyle and hopefully get Tony G a few more quality years.

Overall Grade for the first 6 picks: A

I like the players they selected, but I thought Herm wanted 6 starters out of this draft. These three guys are all backups. Getting three more starters in the later rounds is going to be difficult. My overall grade has slipped to an A-.
