[Kansas City.com] One of the more interesting names heading to Kansas City for a tryout this weekend with the Chiefs will be former Florida quarterback Chris Leak.
Leak, you’ll recall, led Florida to the national title in 2007 by beating Ohio State. Leak was the title game’s most valuable player.
But Leak, who is 6 feet, 207 pounds, didn’t get drafted. He signed as a rookie free agent last year with the Bears but was cut before the season.
Head coach Herm Edwards said he will view Leak as a quarterback rather than trying to convert him to another position.
“We’re definitely looking at him as a quarterback,” Edwards said. “He’s got the arm strength. He’s kind of got a different game than the other quarterbacks we have. So we’ll check it out.”
Leak had been preparing to play in the All American Football league, but its inaugural season has been postponed.

finley we havea QB

Leave it to Herm Edwards to take the high of the draft and bring us back to “his” reality by bringing in another useless acquisition! Herm is beyond words! I mean Chris Leak??? If they really wanted a developmental QB why did’nt they pick a stronger candidate in the draft instead of selecting a Safety which we did’nt need. Amazing isn’t it!!!!
Comment by goldzone44 — May 2, 2008 @ 2:52 am
Hey gold zone that safety will be taking wesleys spot. Which you don’t like.Because he is leaving sometime soon.
Comment by Kyle — May 2, 2008 @ 12:16 pm
Wesley? Pollard should be sweating.
Comment by VLTC — May 2, 2008 @ 12:31 pm
the safety… also know as morgan is a athelete… i would not be surprised if they move him to corner… or he plays both.. he has the speed to do it.. and is versitile. yeah.. but he could take the spot of wither safety or move to corner or be a key reserve for either position

Man! I’m sick of hearing all these whiney Herm Bashers!
Comment by Chief Tom — May 2, 2008 @ 4:22 pm
Im with Chief Tom, let Herm do his work. I still havent heard one realistic reason why we should dislike him. Get used to the Chiefs having damn good drafts year in and year out. That should go quite far in building a good team. Do I think we will be completely awesome this year??? Nah, but I would like to definately see some improvement on both sides of the ball and in special teams. As long as there is improvement from one year to the next, I am happy. I would like to see another year of stockpiled picks and great selections!!! Man that was exciting!!! The heart of the Chiefs fans live on!!! GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!
Comment by Irv — May 2, 2008 @ 4:42 pm
If you put Leak in this years draft he would probably be in the top five QB’s. he probably will be a good fit as the 3rd QB on the depth chart. if we’re lucky he might be a diamond in the rough
Comment by KC111110 — May 2, 2008 @ 5:32 pm
Alright- Everyone is jumping on me!, and hey that’s cool. But let me take each above comment in order and then we’ll see how you feel. Believe it or not, I am a glass half full kind of guy! It’s just that when faced with overwhelming facts you have to face the music and move on! First, we simply did not need another Safety! Replacing one Safety with another of the same caliber is a wash and pointless at this stage! And if you think Morgan will be better because he’s younger, I have news for you! Wesley is far from ancient and they should keep him and should have drafted another cornerback or developmental QB. Or better yet, here’s a novel idea; another O-Lineman! Also, if you think Morgan can slide over to CB from Safety, I have one name for you; Julian Battle! Case closed! Next, the comment that the person is sick of all these whiney Herm bashers is an interesting comment. If you break it down the word “All” is the operative one! That’s right All! meaning the vast majority of Chiefs fans want a winner and not a consistent loser year after year! So if you want to be known as someone who doesn’t whine or critique things to fix them, be my guest! You will be respected, but you will be known as a loser and someone that simply jumps off a cliff if someone tells you to do it! And finally,The comment by the fan that states they would like to see another year of stockpiled picks and great selections knocked me off my feet! Are you serious! That means another 4-12 campaign or worse! So you mean to tell me that year after year you want the best part of a Chiefs season to be an exciting draft!? I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you did’nt mean that! Because if so, that’s amazing! I for one want the best part of the season to be when we walk off with the title! Thank you! And lastly, if 60-70 percent of Chiefs fans want Herm fired, well c’mon I’m in the majority! But hey, we’re all blood brothers in the same boat! So when it comes to seeking victory for our boys in red, we’ll be in agreement!
Comment by goldzone44 — May 2, 2008 @ 5:38 pm
Well I did not mean stockpile picks as in 4-12 season, I think that is apparent. A great draft means better talent to fill your team. I’m looking forward to this team improve this year, as I said in my thread before but was somehow misread. We are building through the draft and I feel good drafts are exciting. Like a said before, I still haven’t heard a good reason to fire Herm yet……
Comment by Irv — May 2, 2008 @ 10:18 pm
4-12 speaks for itself! As well as a nine game losing streak! Why was Gunther fired after two seasons as head man ??. There was apparently no good reason to fire him at the time either, but they did! The NFL as Herm likes to state is a results oriented league! If you want to be 8-8 or worse every year then stick with Herm. His track record over the years says that will be the case with him as Coach! Personally I think Herm is a good man, however he should be a DB coach or in some similar capacity. He is just not Head Coaching material! If Lamar was still with us he would have been let go, but keep in mind that C. Hunt is learning on the job as well and probably will be willing to stick with Herm for the long run, to the dismay of Chiefs fans who want a Championship! If you would like a list for why he should be canned, here it is…
1. 500 record as a Head Coach.
2. Runs games not to lose, instead of trying to win.
3. Key players retire and free agents do not want to play for him.
4. Terrible with clock management.
5. Cannot make necessary adjustments at halftime! (see Indy playoff loss when he stuck with Trent Green instead of going with Damon Huard, when victory was still possible). He should have been fired after that game!
6. Plays to the camera instead of focusing only on what to do to win the next game! (see Bill Belichicks press conferences as a way to handle things and you’ll know what I mean.)
7. Takes no responsibility for losses.
8. Makes excuses at every possible turn! I believe the term is “losers limp”.
9. Shows loyalty to players that do not deserve it and throws players under the bus that he does’nt agree with.
10.Does not take losses hard enough and gets way to chummy with the opposing coaches to the point where he is brown nosing guys like Tony Dungy.
11. And last but most important… Dwindling fan base!!!!
I could probably come up with another 10 if you need it. But in the interest of fairness I will list his good qualities.
1. Uh, Uh, nice guy. And good sense of humor!
2. Ability to cash his check.
3. Protects the NFL at all costs.
4. Calls players by their number at games and practices! (this is good because it helps guys know who they are). Like “Hey 82!, nice catch!”
5. Always tucks in his shirt.
6. Has his clothes properly dry cleaned.
7. Wears clean underwear and is well groomed overall.
8. Focuses on yucking it up with players, which is good for keeping it light and not getting too serious about the upcoming game.
9. Went to worlds greatest party college. San Diego State!
10.And last but not least, says “At the end of the day” so many times in press conferences that it is now most likely the worlds most popular cliche.
I’ve said my peace! But hang in there Herm supporters! Your loyalty is impressive! All twenty of you!
Comment by goldzone44 — May 3, 2008 @ 1:39 am
Are you serious man? He took a shitty team to the playoffs his first year, they were all old vermeil leftovers. Just like most of last years. Wer ARE bringing in new talent to fill the wholes of the old team and start the building process…what do you want them to do RIGHT NOW that will win us a Super Bowl THIS year? I don’t think there is a way but who knows, i’ll still root for it.
Comment by xFatDaNnx — May 3, 2008 @ 1:52 am
This organization is not about winning superbowls. It’s about revenue. The only problem is, the fanbase is not going to keep paying these high ticket prices for a below average performane. It’s time for a change.
Comment by Dave S — May 3, 2008 @ 7:58 am
All you Herm-Haters can’t see the forest for the trees…try not to be so obtuse. Herm was trying to stay a contender and rebuild at the same time last year…it didn’t work - hence 4-12. The organization is in full-blown rebuilding mode now. With the new renovations at Arrow Head in full swing, not signing aging veterans is being fiscally responsible and allowing the organization to build a foundation of players for sustainability. Are their better coaches? Yeah, of course. But if anyone knows what the Chiefs mean to KC its Herm…I think his methods are sound.
Comment by Spry — May 3, 2008 @ 1:53 pm
I’m with you Spry… I’m tired of just OK teams… the only way to reach a superbowl is to build through the draft and make your team younger… in 2 years a lot of my friends will be eating their words!!!!
Give Herm a shot, the guy knows what he’s doing!!!!
Comment by Hubert — May 3, 2008 @ 4:48 pm
I agree with the morgan pick. He will be used in special corner duties and back uo safty. I mean if God forbid Pollard or Page go down in the season, what do they do? who do they got? Wesley is still good, but not as fast. They will also use him to get good field position on kick-offs cause I hear Morgan is a stud on special teams.
Comment by KC fan in CA — May 3, 2008 @ 5:50 pm
Wesley has wanted out of KC since all the other Vets were let go. and he deserves a chance to go somewhere he will fit in a better, similar to the Allen situation, So dont count on him being there much longer.
the thing is Pollard and Page will just get better with time. so morgan might have been one of the questionable picks of this draft. hopefully Morgan can make some contributions on special teams with some big tackles and turnovers.

Here is an actual quote by Herman Edwards. (“If we score 21 points, I’ll say, ‘Whoa, we scored a lot of points.’ Twenty-one points – that’s a lot of points. Thirty points? That isn’t even a football game. That’s Arena Football. We’re talking about real football.”) How do you NOT fire Herm after making that statement? Ever since that statement I will never believe this guy and I think hes a complete moron. It wasnt Solari, it was Herm that made our offense conservative. Just read that quote again. MY GOD. I guarantee this year i will guess what offensive play they will run 99% of the time. I think a major reason our offense was so bad is just because the defense knew what we were running, because if I can guess the next play, I guarantee an NFL DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR will. I dont understand Herm supporters…….He has done nothing but make excuses his entire career.
PS. I do hope I will eat my words because I love the Chiefs so much, but most likely its not gonna happen.
Comment by Jones — May 4, 2008 @ 1:53 am
Lets see you go out there and score 21 points with the team we had last year…that was last year…one more time for good measure, that was LAST year! Its a new team, you saw the draft, how could you NOT be looking forward to this season after that? You are all ‘chiefs fans’ and want to win but you all have the same arguments about Herm and none of you even have a semi-decent solution to ‘fix’ the chiefs if we were to fire Herm.
Comment by FatDaNn — May 4, 2008 @ 3:38 am
Wonder what all the Herm haters would say if he did build a team that won the SB in the next 2-3 years…thats food for thought.
Comment by FatDaNn — May 4, 2008 @ 3:39 am
I think Herm is doing ok. I am willing to give him two more years to be successful. I believe in his values as a football coach. I believe his draft picks these last two years have been pretty solid. If Hali shows up to play this year thats all the proof I need. I also have notice that he likes high motor players like Dorsey, DJ D Bowe and Hali. I feel like in the next 2 years we will have a solid foundation. I am still not sold on B Croyle, but there is no sence in having a franchise QB without a foundation. I look for them to draft a franchise QB next year if croyle doesnt work out. If you really want to bash someone for our teams misfortunes call King Carl.
Comment by RaiderHater — May 4, 2008 @ 4:03 pm
And Leak is not NFL caliber. The Bears QB is worse than ours and they didnt even give him a shot. Even at Florida they ran a 2 QB system because Leak did not have all the tools to be a solid QB all around. He was a great college player that will not transfer to the pros kind of like Troy Smith from Ohio State.
Comment by RaiderHater — May 4, 2008 @ 4:09 pm
Goldenzone, it looks like supporters of Herm are the majority. There is only you and Jones that want him gone on this page, oh yeah and that DaveS guy, but that doesn’t count because he is always negative anyway. Herm has taken the Jets and the Chiefs to the playoffs, and he will again. Give the dude some time. What coach takes a team to the Super Bowl in his 2nd and 3rd year?!
We will be significantly better this year.
What an Awesome draft. One of the best Chiefs drafts I have ever seen.
Comment by Chief Tom — May 4, 2008 @ 6:29 pm
p.s. Herm is awesome when it comes to the draft as we have all seen.
I love Vermeil, but that dude couldn’t draft worth a funk! Look for Herm’s Chiefs to be a more balanced team in the future than Vermeil’s Chiefs were.
Comment by Chief Tom — May 4, 2008 @ 6:34 pm
If Herm supporters are the majority, then why do 60 to 70 percent want him fired. It seems to me that a lot of you on this site need to take some math classes again! And one other point; what good does it do to build through the draft with great players if your coaching staff is not up to the task. Now there’s some food for thought!
Comment by goldzone44 — May 5, 2008 @ 1:34 am
whoa whoa whoa goldzone i see something wrong with number 2 on ur list of why they should fire herm. 2. Runs games not to lose, instead of trying to win. and i’ll put it in Herm’s words….YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME…HELLO. lol does anyone remember Herm doin that at the a press conference after a NY jet loss. i dont consider myself a herm hater so to speak and im not a herm supporter or whatever goldzone here is calling them. I AM A CHIEFS FAN. it shouldnt matter who the coach is. sure our team is goin downhill and what an easy way to blame the new coach but im sure we will turn this around. do u really think just becuz we have Herm Edwards as our coach we are terrible. the players play the game and thats what we need…PLAYERS…not a new coach
Comment by Toby — May 5, 2008 @ 8:42 am
Goldzone, are you even a chiefs fan??? You probably go home everyday and put on your orange and blue, light some candles, and praise the donkeys…..
Comment by Irv — May 5, 2008 @ 9:55 am
I’m a die hard Chiefs fan since 1968! Nobody loves the Chiefs more than me! But let me give you an example; If you had a son or daughter that you saw everyday making the same mistakes over and over again, would’nt you do everything in your power to correct their actions so that they can be successful and happy in life! I know that’s a cheesy explanation, however it is the only way that I can explain my constructive criticism! I am looking for answers before the ship completly sinks! All I know is, we’re taking about a nice guy but an ineffective coach! Like I’ve said I can probably live with King Carl because we have for twenty years and like it or not he is basically a supreme court appointee. But the coach is someone we can get rid of before it gets worse! And I have clearly already stated the reasons he needs to go! As a Chiefs fan I have been waiting too many years to wait another 3 or 4. Fix the problem while you can or it will be another decade before we see a title! Or even a playoff victory. And as far as Herm stating “you play to win the game”. His words fall on deaf ears because his actions on the field are in direct contradiction to the words he spits out in press conferences! I will still hope that they win every game they play and that a title is coming sooner rather than later, however I know that with Herm it’s not gonna happen. I think I have made my point!
Comment by goldzone44 — May 5, 2008 @ 7:32 pm
Goldzone you are so full of sh!t your breath stinks. Where is the proof that 60 to 70 percent of Chiefs fans want Herm gone. And 60 to 70% that’s kind of a loose statistic there bub, which is it 60 or 70%? This is the only Chiefs website that has negativity towards Herm, and that’s because there are some people like you posting on here. Shut up and go hold up some orange pom-poms with the Broncos. I don’t care if you have been a fan since 1968. I wouldn’t want you sitting by me in our beloved Arrowhead.
Comment by Chief Tom — May 5, 2008 @ 8:28 pm
I beg to differ goldzone, EVERYBODY on here is more of a Chiefs fan than you. You are negative, and that isn’t the Blood Red Chiefs way. There were a few reasons to be negative before, but not now! Shut up and quit your sniveling. We have all moved on and are looking forward to next year.
Comment by Chief Tom — May 5, 2008 @ 8:32 pm
Atta Boy Chief Tom! A little passion! Now if we could get Herm to react the same way after tough losses we’d be in business! The 60-70 percent figure came from this website on a recent poll that ran for a few months! The poll asked what to do with Herm and 39% said fire him and roughly 30% said he was doing an awful job! So do the math! I admit I should be basking in the glow of the draft! That much I admit! However, I can’t get over a couple of posts that stated the draft was so exciting they can’t wait for a repeat next year! C’mon Man!, Do you really think the Blood Red Chiefs way as you state is a nine game losing streak and a 4-12 campaign??? What would guys like Buck Buchanan have to say about that??? And when it happens again next year will you still be so supportive of the current regime???? Were you so supportive of Gunther Cunningham after he was fired after only two seasons?
So Herm Edwards and Carl Peterson can do no wrong in your book apparently??? This is the reason why we haven’t won a playoff game in a generation!! People like yourself that are true fans but yet do not have the ability to criticize the organization to make us better and maybe finally win a playoff game! And if this continues into next season, you won’t have to worry about me sitting next to you, there won’t be anyone in that seat! And I am a loyal fan! The difference between you and me is that I want a Championship, not an 8-8 season and call it a success!!!
Comment by goldzone44 — May 6, 2008 @ 12:49 am
And more tidbits… Chief Tom, have you not been reading all of the posts and articles not only on this site but all over the Midwest? And in fact Nation?? The post by Hubert that states that he is not satisfied with just an OK team is exactly my point! But then he says “give Herm a chance” and ” A LOT of my friends will be eating their words in a couple of years”. What’s the point? If he is not satisfied with just an OK team then why is he willing to stick with Herm? His track record shows that is exactly what we will be! And if A LOT of his friends are not satisfied, doesn’t that put the Herm Bashers back in the majority??? I will be the first in line to eat my words and will do so with a smile on my face if they turn it around! Because ultimately I am a fan of the Chiefs! Not of any one particular person roaming the sidelines of games! But you must face reality and stop fantasizing! The first day of the draft was great, but it could not be otherwise, considering where they were picking! My goal is to keep you being a fan and not jumping ship like so many others have! The fact that I am posting shows that I have not given up and do not plan to! So let’s keep the dialogue productive and hope that the powers that be read the posts and understand the concern that honest Chiefs fans have! Like yourself! And the comments that I am a Donkey fan really suck! There is no team in the league that I have more disdain for than Denver! And if there were a few reasons to be critical before, how did they go by the wayside with this draft?? The loss of Allen was huge!! The pick up of Dorsey and the O-Lineman was also huge! But it in no way makes up for the lack of additional key players that shunned the Chiefs in the off-season! If J. Faine and the kicker Brown would have had an interest in coming to Arrowhead my posts would be decidedly more positive! I’m living in the real world! Along with thousands of other Chiefs loyalist that want to see us in the Big game and not just scratching and clawing for a wild card berth each year!
Comment by goldzone44 — May 6, 2008 @ 1:47 am

GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment by apachepride — May 6, 2008 @ 10:57 am
Its simple, When Vermil came to KC he brought a high powered offense and a weak defense. But as we all know from last year it takes a defense to win championships. Look at the 2000 Ravens prime example. I think this is what Edwards is shooting for. How can you deny him gutting our defense for younger faster players. In the end, maybe not this year , but in the near future I look for us to be one of the best defense’s in the NFL. And with even a midocure O-Line Larry Johson and D Bowe can carry our offense. Its all a matter of having a QB that will not make mistakes. I am just not sure that Croyle is that guy. And I dont look for an offense that will put up 35 points a game. If the score is 21 to 10 Chiefs every game who cares, a wins a win. Herm in the next 2 years will make this happen just give him a chance.
Comment by RaiderHater — May 9, 2008 @ 10:25 am
the only problem w/ croyle is that he doesnt have much of a supporting cast on offense. if he were surrounded by good players he could make it happen. but in the NFL a QB has to be able to get it done with what he has. so hopefully the chiefs can find a guy like that sometime soon . . . . . hey isnt vick getting outta prison sometime soon? lol
