All I’m saying is it takes time to establish a complete team in the NFL. When Herm came on he inherited someone else’s team and did pretty good with them. It was short lived. At the end of it, players retired and were traded. Now, he is rebuilding and he can build as he sees fit. Now, we start this thing over again. Give him 3 more years with the new product. Now, I am NOT totally confident with Herm being our head coach. I would much rather see Jimmy Johnson come out of retirement and be our coach, but since Herm is hear I want to give him a fighting chance. Also, I meant no harm with my comment about the NFL and Black coaches. Black coaches were not trusted to coach, just like Black quarterbacks were not trusted to start during my childhood. So, it is rewarding and it is pleasing to see a Black coach or a Black quarterback. However, I SUPPORT THE PERSON BEST QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB. Let me make that very clear. Screw your race, it’s all about the best qualified, and the best fit. And last, maybe I was too hard on Goldzone44 about him not being a true fan. But, if he doesn’t do better than 4-12 this year, then I will say that it’s time to go. Personally, I think that we can win 10 games this year with the young boys. Don’t be surprised. I have faith.

It’s nice to be getting some support from other “true fans” on my recent posts! I know that the MAJORITY of fans disapprove of the current administration, however there are a few who have been throwing me under the bus for wanting a better team and organization! It gives me hope for the future that we fans that will stand up and voice their displeasure with the current state of affairs! But like I said, I will still hope that I’m wrong and eat my words if they are successful this season and beyond! It’s just that the facts and the history are on the side that it won’t be under this group of leaders!

Without arguing or calling your wrong, let me provide counter-points:

Considering they were worse (9-7) than the year before (10-6), I do not consider that an accomplishment.

Most the organization is different now, including the owner. I don’t see how this makes him a better head coach.

I don’t think race has anything to do with coaching ability. I also don’t understand the comment that the NFL needs more “black” coaches? Why is that? There are currently 6 “black” coaches (by my count) out of 32 NFL jobs. That’s 19%. According to the 2000 census, 13% of americans reported themselves as “black”. So by what metric does the NFL need “more”?

If it takes Herm 3 years to take responsibility, that just proves how bad a head coach he is. On one hand you give him credit for going to the playoffs in 2006, then claim he hasn’t has “his” team yet? Come on, you’re not going to slip that one past anyone.

It is nice to see a black coach for the Chiefs! But in this particular scenario skin color is not the issue! The issue is whether or not Edwards is up to the task! Plus, he has already had two seasons so with this being the third, if he does’nt turn it around this year he should be run out of town! Your comment about Players liking Herm is a very questionable one, because as soon as he came on board key players retired and trying to get a significant free agent to have any interest in playing for the Chiefs has been next to impossible! If they liked Herm they would be scrambling to play for him and that is just not the case!

Herm has coached with the Chiefs before, so he knows the orgaization very well. Herm is also a student of Dick Vermiel regarding coaching. If you are going to give up on the Chiefs because of Herm, the other guy was right, DON’T SHOW UP ON SUNDAY WHEN MY BOYS TAKE THE FIELD. You are NOT a true Chiefs fan!! I hate Greg Wesley, but as long as he puts on a Red and Gold jersey, I will support his lazy ass. Question? Why did the Chiefs just sign to cornerbacks, one who was on IR all last year, and the other who is a flat out bum. Are you going to support these guys or hate them like you do Herm? Like J.T. said, the Head Coaching position is NOT an easy one, and I think that Herm is doing a hell of a job because it could be worse. Carl Peterson is another story, but keep in mind that Herm can only do what Carl tells him or asks him. So, it aint all Herm’s fault. Also, the Chiefs needed a Black coach in its history because times have changed. We no longer live in the 1960’s. Give the guy chance to turn the team around after carrying Dick Vermiel’s Chiefs for the past 3 years. Now, it’s Herm’s team, so give him 2 years or 3 with HIS team, then let’s talk about what he has or hasn’t done. But, in the meantime, will ONLY the real Chiefs’ fans stand up !!!!!!!!!!

While staying congenial, i’d really like to hear what people think Herm does well? And please don’t say “drafting” because:

(1) That’s relatively low on HEAD COACHING duties. There are full time people that worry about that (scouts, kukarich). The head coach has a lot of other things to worry about (and should be good at) too.

(2) Herms actual ability in this area is still debatable. His Chiefs drafts are still too recent to fully critique and even if they are good, his is only one voice of many. Secondly, his Jets drafts are unimpressive.

If you don’t support the Chiefs you are wasting your time reading anything about them. If you don’t support the new Chiefs don’t show up to the games and don’t turn on your TV’s. If you don’t support the Chiefs go support the dolphins see who gets to the playoffs first. GMs don’t play the game or call the plays. And anyone thinks Herm is not an NFL quality coach look at the current coaches in the NFl almost a higher turnover ratio than UPS. Very few can manage every aspect of the game in the big league. Herm is a role player he doesn’t do everything but what he does he does well. He needs better coaching around him and better players that he picks and sees potential in. For those of you who have already given up I don’t expect to see you on sundays come september and frankly glad I won’t.

Why must we go with what we have and support them??? There are many qualified candidates that would do a better job right now!! Must we suffer through two or three more bad seasons when we could do something about it! Supporting people just for the sake of supporting does no good unless they give you a reason to support them! JD makes a very clear cut reason for change “right now”! Clearly, C. Hunt will not make any changes before the season starts and I for one will be hoping they win their games, but it might snow in the middle of July as well! The support should have dried up by now, so the question will be, when does the support dry up?? If not now????

This is going to make a great article. I can shed lots of light on this matter. The fact is that Carl Peterson has generated income and maintained filling stadium seats, however he has neglected the team. Herm is not a great coach, but he’s a payer’s coach, and a fighter. Herm needs a GM like Bill Parcell’s to light his fire. I would like to see a Hall of Fame Coaching Staff on the Chiefs, but we don’t have that right now. I get the feeling that big name players don’t want to play for Carl Peterson, unless they have no where else to go. Like Ty Law for example. As Chief’s fans we must go with what we have and support them UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE !!

Great read as usual. Never mind this Jake guy. There seems to be no evidence of taking those comments out of context. They’re actually extremely self-contained statements.

Fact is, Herm hasn’t proven much of anything that qualifies him as an NFL head coach. Conversely, he’s proven to have quite a lot of deficiencies. I don’t know where all these people’s blind hope that he’ll suddenly become a good coach comes from, but maybe i should start smoking it.

You mean to tell me Herm and Carl have admitted their mistakes!!?? Actually Herm and Carl have done nothing but throw people under the bus and have never taken responsibility for loss after loss. They always have excuses! And when Herm makes questionable call after questionable call during games, how long must we as fans continue to let him slide?? Gunther was not given an extra year or two when he was coaching! So why should Herm be given any extra credit??? I almost always support the players and will continue to do so! However, this falls on management! The coaches and management must do their “damn” jobs as well!! They are the ones that created this faulty deck of cards! They should have been held accountable last season but were not, so now we have to live with more laughable press conferences after losses and deal with this regime for yet another season! Change must occur or we will be having this same converstion next year at this time! Showing up is fine, but shutting up as you say is not going to happen as long as we have this poor of a product on the field! But if you never voice your opinion then you must accept what ever befalls the team. I am one fan that feels fans should not accept losing as you seem to be doing with no problem! Giving people a chance is great, but the point is both Herm and Carl have had their chances and they fumbled the ball! How many more fumbles must we witness as fans before someone somewhere does something to bring a Championship to K.C.? The draft was great, but that could have been conducted by a high school coach given where they were picking! I for one will show up and support the players but Herm and Carl have not given any solid evidence in the past that they deserve our continued support! If the fans do, then they deserve to have losing season after losing season! So make your choice!

I am of no relation but when it comes to the best home record in the last 18 years and losing it because of Larry’s foot there are few people to blame but the play callers and those who are supposed to carryout those orders. Football is a battle and even if your leaders are unsatisfactory you still must set out and do your damn job. Our players in the last 4 years have not done that. And thats the reason we let them all go. Herm has stated in his actions if have not made the pro bowl or been eligible in any respect you are off the team. He give a player two chances and if they don’t work they are gone. All I have to say is wait see the young kids play. If anyone believes you can transform a team because of a few giant transactions your an idiot. The NFL is changing and so are the Chiefs. As college becomes more like the NFL in the level of play the best players to get are those that stand out and understand what it takes to win. All I have to say for those of you who don’t agree is show and support your new team like no other you have seen before. This is truly Herm’s team and you can expect him to take all the credit this year whether its another 4-12 repeat like 88-89 or its 13-3 like 2003. You can hate a man for poor choices but I hate you if you don’t forgive a man thats admits his mistakes. Carl admited his mistakes and is doing everything he can to save his ass. He brought Herm in and was given a faulty deck of cards. He was finally given a reshuffle this year and we shall see how they land. Show up or shut up!

Do You like having a rotten football team that will need at least two more drafts to be competitive???? We’ve been saying two more drafts for the entire King Carl regime!!! How can you be so dedicated to a couple of guys that suck in their jobs???? If you ran a business and were depending on turning a profit and or keeping your customers I’m sure you would be less patient. How can you and the other Herm and Carl supporters call yourself true fans?? You’re clearly happy with losing!!! And you say Herm and Carl are not good right now, but are building up to it?? Excuse me?? This is a results oriented league and year after year of sucking is not building up to anything but failure!! I’m glad you’re a Chiefs fan, but your comments make me wonder if some in our fan base will ever wake up and realize that in order to be Champions you have to do what’s required even though it is sometimes painful! Otherwise 8-8 or worse is the best we can hope for!! You must be in the Peterson or Edwards family tree!

If I wasn’t so lazy I would respond to your silly post in a similar fasion. As it is, I’ll just say this: Herm is not a great coach, Carl is not a great GM/President, and the Chiefs are not a good football team right now. However, they are on their way to being a good team. The best way for the Chiefs to get good again is a youth movement through the draft. New young, energetic, loyal players who are true Chiefs. Trust me, in 2 more drafts this team will have as much talent as any team in the league. Then there is no excuse for not winning. You’re dismissed, JD.

Another great article! Let’s just hope those myopic Herm and Carl supporters are paying attention! I have consistantly listed many reasons for a change in management and you certainly have as well, but the few who support losing keep coming up with excuses! For those folks who say they are “true Chiefs fans” but refuse to see that we need new management to turn things around is one of the great mysteries we have going right now! Stange indeed!!!!!!!!!
