Steve,
You are the man for stepping up and making that comment! We would all love to be "wrong" about Herm. But the fact is his style of coaching just does not produce championship teams! Or even teams that should compete for playoff spots! His getting us to the playoffs his first year took an unbelievable turn of events on the final Sunday to get us in. (and the playoff game against the Colts proved Herm's lack of ability). And the "four" improbable things that happened on that Sunday will not happen again in our lifetimes. And as far as his appearances in the playoffs while coaching the Jets, it had more to do with the cerebral Chad Pennington managing the clock and taking it out of Herm's hands as well as what was a weak AFC East outside of the Patriots.

I appreciate you rejecting the Kool-Aid and seeing the light! They may beat the Raiders on Sunday, but that will only prolong the misery! Now if we could just get Jake to wake up and stop being so myopic we might be onto something!

Well, here we go again. It's time to bring out the Vince Lombardi quote. "Winning isn't everything, it's the ONLY thing". Jake, you must be the product of a different school system, athletic system, or some kind of system. I play to win. I want my teams to play to win. Cheering your rear end off is nice, but winning the game is the deal. Type A personalities do not understand Type B personalities. Your reluctance to compete and win is a complete anathema to me. You are totally satisfied with losing? Is that it? You also make that gigantic leap and assert that I am not happy because my team is not winning. I am happy about many other things, but not about the mismanagement of MY CHIEFS! Herm Edwards is a completely incompetent bumbling stooge who needs to go.

Don't go trying to saddle 2007 on Vermeil! Are you trying to antagonize me? There are few Herm excuses I despise more than the "this is his first real year" whopper. FYI, this is Herms's 8th (count 'em, E-I-G-H-T) season as an NFL head coach.

Vermeil's guys might be the only thing that kept the Chiefs respectable for the first half of 2007. Allen, Tony, LJ, DJ, Surtain, Colquitt, Waters... all Vermeil holdovers. Harris, Turley, McIntosh, Law, Croyle, Medlock, under-developed-at-the-time Pollard, no real FB... all Herms guys/decisions.

7+ years as head coach is plenty of time to prove Herms a terrible game-day and game planning coach. I'm not complaining about the current youth development, i'm complaining about game-day (or game-week) Herm. That and aspects of his roster handling and free-agency moves are relatively poor. In the end Herm may have a place in the NFL, just not head coach.

It's not about negativity. I'm still as excited and fond of the Chiefs as ever. I just think Herm's a bad head coach for the many reasons i've outlined in commentaries and posts. And the more people look the other way and pretend all the terrible truths about Herm aren't true, the more and more the rest of us are going to voice our complaints.

Jake you're a flippin moron. Get a clue and get off the Herm bandwagon. He is without a doubt the worst coach in NFL history. He ruined the Jets and now has ruined the Chiefs. Obviously you know nothing about football and must have some, unknown to any of us, reason for loving Herm. I could coach an NFL team and beat any team that Herm coaches. Hopefully C. Hunt won't make the same mistake next year and keep his useless ass in KC.

How did Indy get Manning? How did The Giants get Manning? How did the Patriots get their defensive line? Um yeah the NFL is based on getting talent to teams that lose.

I like the fact that we have talent and we can claim that all our players are "Chiefs". When you build a team like a family you reap the benefits. I would say that the Patriots team has the highest level of trust in one another on their team. Surprisingly there can be a better team. Having players that have only devoted their careers to one team have much greater loyalty, and are better for the organization than overpaying relic free agents. And we are only 0-1 just like 16 other teams. We will win on Sunday. Tony G. will break another record, and it will be the first time we haven't started 0-2 in the Edwards era.

When the Chiefs make the playoffs this year would you still want to fire a coach that has gone to the playoffs 5 times in eight seasons. seems to me like a pretty good ratio. I believe its the same ratio that gets most teams into playoffs 10 for 16 except for the Chiefs in 2005. Yeah I want a Championship team and we are on the cusp right now.

Before everyone says I'm crazily optimistic no I'm just a hopeful fan that believes we have the tools on the field to win. This is the most exciting time in team history because it is happening right now. Not next year, this year is when the transition from Vermeil's Chiefs to Edwards Chiefs is complete. Compared to last year we are miles ahead in the development process. We showed signs of a significant defense last year especially in my second favorite stat (best third down defense in the League). My favorite stat is Turnovers and we are already making progress in that stat t4th. Our defense was able to do what no team has done before cause FIVE three and outs against arguably the best offense ever. This is where everyone brings up the Brady excuse, well we went through the same thing in 2006 and we still found a way to make it to the playoffs. Was it coaching? Or was it backup Damon Huard having the second highest passer rating in the league that year?

There are similarities between the Chiefs and a lot of Championship teams. The fact that everyone on this site does not see them and only looks at the negative saddens me. I grew up believing our fans were the best in the league. I had Packer fans at #2. The reason why I believe the NFL is the greatest league in the World is because of the fans. It's the only sport where fans can truly make an impact. That impact created the best home field advantage in the league. We are second now I believe to my second most HATED team the Donkeys. We can start to fix that by beating the most HATED team by Chiefs.

How can anyone love football dearly and not HATE the Raiders. They stand for everything worthless in recent years. I hate the raiders almost as much as I hate spending money on killing babies. I love Arrowhead and will never call it anything else. I hope that never changes, but the only way it would is if people stop believing in community and coming together to have fun. If your only source of happiness is winning, then I feel sorry for you because there are plenty of things to be happy about. It's being involved, you can either put on those blinder glasses and hope for the best or you can cheer your ass off, make as much noise as possible and then be satisfied from every false start, wasted timeout and mis communication because the bones of the players are being rattled with 120 decibels of sheer "red sea power". It's just a game, but a very unique one.

Let's see, let me get this straight........I don't understand the NFL because I don't understand that you have to lose to win? Perhaps one with grammar and spelling such as yours is not as educated in the ways and nuances of the NFL as one seems to think. Your post is long on rhetoric and short on logic and common sense. Maybe you are happy with just having the "opportunity to win", I am not. As far as this being the most exciting time in Chiefs history, all I can do is chuckle about that. We are ten games into one of the longest losing streaks in the team's history and Herm has done nothing to fix the offensive problems which are continuing from last year. We do have a new offensive coordinator, but the play calling and game planning still suck. Maybe losing is just a way of life for some people, it is not for me.

Your not taking into account the fact that without those nine straight losses we would not have been able to get all the talent we acquired this year. Just like DT and Neil Smith at the end of the eighties which is the only reason we had success in the early nineties. You have to lose to win. I will admit that there are a few teams like the patriots that have taken advantage of a good opportunities, like an extremely weak division and excellent coaching. Not everyone can have a Tom Brady and now the suckers in New England will realize their dream has ended.

Some teams can't make the right choices when they have a horrible season. Emotion gets involved and people want to change everything including the parts that worked. Look at Miami getting rid of their two best players on defense. Saving money and looking for the future. If anyone thinks Miami has a better shot at the playoffs their crazy. And if anyone thinks the Chiefs will make the playoffs in the next three years without Herm is crazy as well.

You don't create championship teams with rash decisions I'm just glad that none of you are a part of the team. You don't understand team sports and you don't understand the NFL. It all happens on the field and if there is anyone to blame for the game it is D Bowe. He was in position on First down and the situation got the most of him. Loss of focus kills inexperienced teams. These are the mistakes that young teams make. I believe those who are real football fans understand this, and should be happy with even having the opportunity to win.

Their is only one team recently that won without a defense and it was only by a yard. That would be the rams. People in St. Louis believe if Vermeil stayed there they would have won two more Trophy's. I disagree with this because you simply can't expect to win against three of the six best teams in the conference just by passing the ball all over the field. The only reason the Rams were able to do this is because they play in the NFC and regardless of talent on the field it seems to me that the AFC always has better defense and running games than the NFC. You can't win that way in the AFC. You have to balanced. Would it be easier to win games with a quarterback who scores 30+ TD's in a season yes but will it when championships.. NO.

One guy aka Tom Brady does not single handedly win games. Terrific Tom could not do anything without having a terrific team where everyone understands the single concept of everyone doing their job and having the confidence to know that if every single player does their job then winning won' be an option it will be a matter of fact.

This is the most exciting time in Chiefs History the only problem is our founder can't see it up close and personal. He can only see it through our eyes. And if our eyes are constantly skeptical always disagreeing with the current ways we should be ashamed. If no seat is filled in a stadium it not only looks bad on our organization it looks bad for our city, our community, and our tradition. All I ask is that you give the luckiest player/unluckiest coach an opportunity to win back your hearts and minds. It will be easier for everyone if all 76,500 people show up on Sunday for possibly the biggest week in a long time. You all are right about the decreasing fan appreciation, but I don't see how not showing up for at least the first half will do anything to help our cause.

Some teams can’t make the right choices when they have a horrible season.

You don’t create championship teams with rash decisions I’m just glad that none of you are a part of the team. You don’t understand team sports and you don’t understand the NFL.

Hey Jake,

I think you just need to can that "hate" word. Frankly, I try not to hate anyone, especially over something like football (although I love the game dearly). However, Herm Edwards, has proven to ME beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is in over his head and incapable of coaching at this level in the NFL. After another disastrous season passes there will be others, believe me. In the meantime, Herm needs to attempt to get his act together if he plans to remain the head coach. I do not foresee that happening. So, I will continue to voice my opinion that Herm needs to either grow into job or hit the road. How much on the job training does he need? Right now he is at 10 losses in a row (regular season). What would be the right amount for on the job training, 15, 20, 25 losses? You tell me.

Jake,

If we beat the Raiders, that would be Herm's first win in 11 games. So yes, going 1-11 is reason to fire him.

How many games does Herm have to lose before you think he may not be as good as you think? 10? 20? 30?

I bet Herm could go 1-40, & you would still be on here berating us for not getting behind a him just becaue he's the Chiefs coach, even though he lost 40 straight games.

Absolutely, they should be fired if we won 10-0 because not even great teams can shut out the entire schedule. Eventually you will need to score at least 2 touchdowns probably (God forbid) 3 touchdowns. That would be 21 points on the board...and that is just avg for teams that play in the 21st century.

Herm is worthless because if they don't hand it to LJ they try to force it to Tony or Bowe. So you put 8 in the box on first and second down to stop the obvious run and when it is 3rd and long double team Tony and Bowe. Wala Chiefs get beat again.

not hard to stop the chiefs offense.

sidenote: Jamaal Charles and Dantrell Savage were impressive in their spots.

It's the same old story on offense,10, 12, or fewer points per game, and we're supposed to win games with that! Never challenge the defensive backs so they can creep up and stop the run, hell they get bored just standing back there! What scares me is Denver, they're going to destroy the Chiefs if their offense is on like it was Monday night. It'll be over at halftime. I keep trying to give Herm a chance, but this play calling sucks. It is so easy to predict the Chiefs offensive play calls its ridiculous! Nothing new here. Except for a whole bunch of new rookies, nothing else has changed. Taking a look at the schedule doesn't help either, because the Chiefs play alot of strong teams this year too!

During half time one of the Chiefs radio announcers asked Herm Edwards about the plan for the second half. Herm went into his spiel about having fewer three and outs, keeping the defense rested and the Patriots offense off the field, etc! I wanted to SCREAM at the radio "Your team needs to score some more POINTS!!!!!" I thought Chan Gailey would be more of a man and stand up to Herm in order to correct the offensive problems of the past. Apparently he will not. The play calling was bad, the quarterback was in fear of doing anything, the secondary was never tested downfield by our offense, and what is with those sideways passes which are almost laterals? Wow, the coaching staff really sucked and yet the young team stayed in the game and had the opportunities to win it. What does that tell you?

Brady's injury was very unfortunate, but Pollard's hit was perfectly legal. What should be illegal is allowing Herm Edwards and his ten points a game philosophy to coach in this league and draw a paycheck. Is there some way to force the league to require teams to hire coaches with with some clue as to how to game plan and prepare teams to win? This way the NFL can be assured of having competitive teams on Sunday instead of forcing fans to pay for games that they already know the outcome!

I say this of course with tongue firmly planted in cheek, however I do think it's food for thought.

The Chiefs are fortunate that a team that may be worse than them are coming into Arrowhead next Sunday, that could possibly allow an Edwards coached team to eek out a victory. But the train will soon be back on it's track the following week in Atlanta when the Chiefs will clearly need to score more than ten points to win. Looking at the schedule and considering Edwards will not change his ways, (if he did, he would have done it long ago), the Chiefs are looking at either a 1-15 or possibly a 2-14 campaign.

Thanks to the Raiders for helping us to stay away from 0-16! If the Raiders beat the Chiefs on Sunday, C. Hunt should immediately fire Herm and Carl! Enough already!
