As a bonus news item, Tyler Thigpen has been named as this Sunday's starting QB.

According to Herm, “We want to take a look at him. He’s another young player at quarterback we want to look at and see where he’s at. We’re trying to look at young players, and this is part of the process. Is he a (second-string quarterback)? A one? Is he always going to be a three? You don’t know until you have an opportunity to play.”

I thought this was what the preseason was for.

Herm's decision communicates one of two things to me (maybe both). Either:
1. He no longer cares about winning this season. (Not sure he ever did, actually) It's a write-off. If the Chiefs don't win any more games, it's OK because they are trying to look at young players.

or

2. He is giving up on the prospect of Brodie Croyle becoming a decent QB and he is now "developing" the next guy. Yes, I know Brodie is out with an "injury." So why not put Huard in and keep Thigpen as backup?

Stay tuned, Chiefs fans. This season is not going to get any better.

Today's Hermisms can be found in this article. It's chock full:

Worst. Chiefs. game. ever.

I don't know what it's going to take to get me back out to Arrowhead in 2 weeks. My son and I went thinking there's no way we could drop an opening day game against the Raiders.

We left after the third quarter. I wanted to puke. My son said I should sell the rest of my tickets on Craigs list and get some money. I'm not sure I could find buyers for them.

I understand "rebuilding" and "youth" but this game was worse than that. It was a poorly run pre-season game. What the hell were those stupid option plays with the slashback? And why did they run it more than once?!?!?!?!? They went into this game planning on getting Thigpen some snaps. That's a f@#$ing preseason strategy! You don't plan on putting the third-string QB in the game unless you're up 35-0!!!!!!!

Herm is a complete failure as a coach, and I am torn between wanting to see the Chiefs go winless so he loses his job, and not being able to bear a winless season.

My preseason prediction for the Chiefs: 5-11
My updated prediction: 1-15. Look out Miami!

You cannot win in the NFL scoring under 300 points in a season, a feat Herm has accomplished 3 times in his coaching career. Marty is considered the 'poster child' for conservative football, so lets compare that to him. Marty has scored less than 300 points 3 times in 20 seasons. 2 of them were his first full season on a job (Cleveland and Washington... both times he won more than 4 games) and another was a 1996 KC team that scored 297.

Even worse... Herm has TWICE scored less than 250 points. Marty hasn't done that and he's never had a team score a pathetic 226 points like KC did last year.

You may need defense to win championships, but if you can't score points the best you can do is tie.

J.D.

Another great commentary, but i have a suggestion for you. Please, you might want to just re-run this commentary and change the word Patriots in the Header to Raiders. I am concerned about your health and do not want you getting Carpel-Tunnel from typing the SAME THING for the raiders game commentary and probably many more times this year. Hermeroid (because he is a pain in all our asses) has taken us to a new low today with 11, thats right, ELEVEN LOSSES IN A ROW!!!!! Unfreakin believable!!! GOD i am glad i gave up my season tickets this year!!!
Today I got a call from a friend of mine that is a misguided Raiders fan that was at the Game. She said that she was AMAZED that the stands were so empty with this being our home opener. Watching on T.V. today I must agree that the stands looked pretty empty. And this was the RAIDERS GAME!! So, JD, you can just carbon copy this commentary for this week as the SAME crap just happened for the SECOND time this year, and keep a carbon copy of this for future commentaries, because it looks like we will be dealing with the SAME CRAP for quite a while. Even the "Talking Heads" in the pregame show said that the Raiders were the WORST TEAM IN THE NFL and they kicked our asses. All I can figure is Hermeroid must have wanted his title back.
My question for Jake is, how much more of this crap are YOU willing to put up with??? I mean jeez, Lynn Elliot missed a couple of field goals and got death threats. Hermeroid has just lost his 11th game in a row!! This is the third year in a row, that Hermeroid has been our head coach, and has lost the first two games of the season.

Mr. Hunt, its time to pull your head out of your %#$ and take charge of YOUR team and DO SOMETHING before it gets worse!

Now i got to call the Dr. in the morning and order a season's worth of antidepressants.

I can't believe that game that I watched today. It has to be the worst performance by a team in NFL history. I love how I heard from the announcers on Fox while flipping back and forth from the Rams/Giants game how "not far from here in KC Herm Edwards is SECURE IN HIS JOB and is playing young players". Why in the world would someone who has as many consecutive losses as he has be secure unless he has been told the moron Carl Peterson that no matter how much he sucks and how many Chief fans don't show up to the game, his job is secure. WAKE UP HUNT FAMILY AND GET RID OF HIM and that useless Carl Peterson with his five year plan which is now in its 21 year!! Shuffling in quarterbacks how bush league is that.

Here is the deal people. I made a bet with my cousin. I always talk about my Chiefs. He told me he was waiting on this week. He is a Cowboys fan. We made a bet on a local High School game. He said if our high school lost then I would have to root for the winner of the KC-Oakland game for a year (who he said is the two worse teams in the league) or become a Cowboy's fan until we get a new head coach. That was kind of odd. So I didn't think he knew what he said and I quickly shook on it. After the shake, I asked him did he realize what he said. He said without hesitating "Yeah, I know Oakland is going to win because you all have the most conservative coach in the league and all he will do is run the ball." He continued on saying "Y'all QB is terrible and the run defense suspect." So I'm officially a Cowboys fan since they has just moved to my fourth most hated thing in this world behind 1. Oakland 2. Queen Carl 3. Herm Edwards. Bye Bye HERM'S Chiefs, hello COWGIRLS.

I don't know Jake. I don't know JD. I know Herm, and he will NEVER be a head coach in this leauge EVER again after Clark wakes up and fires his butt. Yeah Herm "were over it". I challenge my fellow chiefs fans. If you love the Chiefs as I do you will not stop supporting them, however you will come to the games supporting our players, not the management or our so called head coach. Let your voice be heard on Sunday. Bring the biggest Herm/Carl bashing sign you can make. Our voices shall not go un noticed. And as for Herm I hope he has access to the pope mobile, because that's gonna be the only safe place for him in Kansas City. It's been fun Herm/Carl but the fans will unite and you will see how "over it" we really are.

"How many games must we win for you to be happy during a youth movement? Comment by Jake"

Why don't we start with winning one game? Let's please just win one game first, shall we?

Jake, how many 3 & outs do we have to go through? How many scoreless first halves must we go through before you can acknowledge Herm has failed?

I appreciate your optimistism, Jake.

Most teams have to reinvent themselves with youth eventually. However, most teams understand how to use that youth and talent to give that repective team an opportunity to win, Denver is a good example, as much as it hurts to say it. Herm and Carl haven't been able to do it with veterans or young players.

Despite the score from last week, we had no business being in that game. I am happy that we "competed", absolutely. It is evident that our defense is much improved and should give us a better chance to win if the offense can give them a break. I respect Herm for his passion for the game and think he is a positive influence on players as people. Unfortunately, that doesn't win games.

You have to look at it this way; Herm has a job to do. If he can't do the job, which he is proving, we need to go another direction. Carl also has a job to do, but apparently has forgotten what that is. No GM on the planet has been allowed to run an organization this long, without winning. In my opinion, he is the root of our problems. He displays an arrogance only deserving of frugal, successful business men. It does not reflect on the Chiefs in a good light, regardless of our wins and losses.

We have the athletes and coordinators that I believe would allow us to be competitive right now. Maybe not be a playoff team but show steady improvement. The coach is responsible for putting it together. Unfortunately, Herm isn't the guy to do it.

Mark- AMEN!, And Jake, 3-2? You must be drinking an entire gallon of Kool-Aid! When they are 1-4, or worse, you will need some Maalox to wash that Kool-Aid down!

Jake, I wondered how long before you reared your ugly opinion. Can you name 3 positive things that Herm has done since he's been here? Sure we had a good draft this year but we can't win in the NFL with Herm's style of play. He is holding us back and there's no question about that. I am a die-hard Chiefs fan and would love to sing his praises but he is useless as a head coach. I don't think that Herm could run a lemonade stand to be honest with you, let alone an NFL team. My only hope is that when Clark Hunt wakes up he ships that useless Carl Peterson out with him.

3-2 ?
I'm sorry, I'm a huge Chief's fan but no F'n way. A 3-2 start with this play calling?

Our only hope to start 3-2 is that fact that Huard is back under center. And NO I am not a big Huard fan, but he's a vet and understands this offense better than Croyle... he gives us a better chance to win NOW.
