[Topeka Capital-Journal] A shoulder injury sustained against the Raiders will keep veteran left corner Pat Surtain out of Sunday’s game, meaning the Chiefs will have two rookies at their starting corner positions.
Brandon Carr, Kansas City’s fifth-round draft pick out of Division II power Grand Valley State, will start his second NFL game, but first in regular defense. Carr, KC’s third cornerback in the nickel defense, opened the New England game when the Chiefs came out in a three-corner defense.
“We anticipated this might happen sometime this year,” Edwards said of playing two rookie corners. “This makes us the youngest secondary in the league (with two third-year safeties), but the good part is, these guys will be playing together for a long time.”
