[Kansas City.com] The Chiefs are suddenly facing the possibility of a serious shortage at defensive end. Not only is Turk McBride questionable for Sunday’s game at Atlanta because of what he called a bruised spleen, but the other starting defensive end, Tamba Hali, popped up on the injury report because of a sore knee.

Hali is also listed as questionable.

The Chiefs carry only four defensive ends. Alfonso Boone and rookie Brian Johnston, a seventh-round draft pick, are the others.

    3. Guess Johnston will get to go into ‘Thigpen’ Mode lol. Learn, even at the expense of the team.

    5. Dear God,
Please help Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards find new jobs. Please replace them with leaders that don’t suck. I pray that you will guide the Chiefs to victory in Your Grace. In Jesus Name I Pray. Amen

    7. “The Chiefs carry only four defensive ends. Alfonso Boone and rookie Brian Johnston, a seventh-round draft pick, are the others.”

And we carry 4 rookie (basically) quarterbacks, that makes a whole hell of a lot of sense

    8. hey has anybody heard of any LJ trade rumors? It would be awesome to fire Herm and bring back ol’ Marty

    9. it’s a shame and I’m sad to say this is in responce to most of the “chiefs fans” on this site. Do any of to know what a rebuilding year looks like? IT LOOKS LIKE THIS! Niether carl herm can make the defence hit the right hole or the offence make the right block or the wideout catch the ball. All they can do is draft and couch well. Does anyone think the daft sucked? Maybe we should have traded some of those picks to get some “name” FAs so we could almost miss the playoffs for the next two years.

    10. Kcchief
“All they can do is draft and coach well.” O.K. we did pretty good in the draft this year. But, what about the second part of that statement. What coaching are you watching? Did you even see the game last week?

    11. Oh no you mean our saviour Hali is now injured? Isn’t he supposed to be the next Jared Allen?

How do Peterson and Herm keep their jobs with such blunders?

      Comment by MYERS — September 20, 2008 @ 5:14 pm

    12. KCCHIEF you fail. Try again someday after a few spelling lessons.

This is NOT what a rebuilding year looks like – a rebuilding year shows progress, not a bunch of monumental blunders.

      FAIL.

    13. Wow…God has never actually spoken back to me in such a direct dialogue…..creepy!

    14. Well from the looks of it, its going 2 be a LONG season. But hey Chiefs fans look on the bright side. I don’t think Herm is the issue. Its KING CARL. Herm is bringing in players we need and that are good. Tamba Hali, 16 sacks in 2 years, D Bowe, would have got rookie of the year if it wasn’t for ALL DAY (Adrian Peterson). Now I hope Dorsey and Albert show us something. Herm can pick us the players. But look at it like this…..yeah bad season but the good news is CARL WILL BE GONE!!!!!!!!! So thats the biggest positive we can look foward to.

    17. Nick, you wrote Dear God when I believe you meant Dear Marty.. cause it’s the same thing.. Marty is God when it comes to football coaching.

    18. well the only postive that will come from having such a horrible season will be that we get high up in the draft again.

      Comment by Stich — September 21, 2008 @ 3:01 pm

    19. Did anyone honestly expect a winning season? I didn’t!! You can’t if you want to rebuild. We are starting 2 rookie corners, think they’re going to be the best in their first year?? No, but next year they will be better. Yes, our QB position sucks and it would even if Croyle was in, but he’s still learning too. The youngest team in football will never be the best, but as time goes, they will be good and we will see the playoffs again. If we were to see a .500 season, that would be amazing and everyone should have been prepared for that before the season even started.

    20. I will say that if our play calling was better we would have a better chance of winning. Herm does just play to stay in the game, he doesn’t play to win!!

    22. For those who are saying this is what a rebuilding year looks like you are nuts. A rebuilding year looks like Atlanta!!!!!

    23. Detroit Lions, St. Louis Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs. I’m not only giving these three failing grades for the week, but also putting them on double secret probation. And this will be the last time I will discuss their horrible play again this season in any column I write. From this moment forward, I am working with 29 teams for the F grade. At halftime yesterday, these three teams were down 72-16 combined. They are not only really bad, but also show no sign of ever getting competitive.
