[Kansas City.com] The Chiefs have been shut out a few times over the years, but Sunday’s weak offensive performance was their worst in 22 years.
Kansas City accumulated 127 total yards in its 34-0 loss at Carolina. That was the Chiefs’ lowest output since they gained 126 yards Oct. 12, 1986, in a 20-7 loss at Cleveland.
They did, however, score a touchdown in that game.
“I didn’t see that coming,” Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said Sunday. “We come in here and act like we never played before. It just wasn’t very good.”
The Chiefs had one first down in the first half, and running back Larry Johnson finished with 2 yards rushing Sunday.

I think I know how the Buccaneer fans felt.
Yesterday was horrendous and embarrassing, heads should roll but we know they won’t.

what are the odds that we trade lj for quinn after this wonderful performance im lost with the chiefs this year how can the d not stop the run o-line d-line qb is it fixable for next year?

There was a press conference after the game where Herm said “I don’t know what went wrong, I have’nt seen the tape” I was at the game sitting in the upper level end zone and could tell you exactly what went wrong. Why won’t his stupid lying ass just admit that he can’t call a game? One other classic Herm comment from that same interview “We did’nt ever have anything happen to give us some momentum” If a fumble recovery and an interception are’nt momentum than what is? Does the other team just have to let us walk down the field and score to get this ever elusive “momentum” that he speaks of, I can’t wait until this clown is out of town.

Once again Herm sets another Chiefs record in futility.

Herm says that he doesnt understand how this can happen in his post game, NO SHIT ! Then get the F#@$ out of town dumb ass.

Let the NEW 12 game losing streak begin. One down eleven to go. That should put us at a whopping 1-15. First pick in the upcoming draft. I say get a GM and Head Coach.

These guys couldn’t beat a Junior College team right now. Caralina is good but we made them look great. The purpose of rebuilding is to get better and we are not. ANd that is due to coaching. Herm,Gun,and Carl all need to find new homes!!!! Sorry Gun I loved ya but this D sucks just as bad as the rest of the team.

Start the head coaching inverviews TODAY.
Herm does not belong in the NFL, he obviously does not know what it takes to win or motivate his players.
Chan is calling plays that might have worked 20 years ago.
Huard is just plain awful.
Upcoming schedule: Tennessee, @Jets, Tampa, @San Diego, New Orleans, Buffalo.
Chiefs record: 1-11.
How about Chase Daniel 1st pick in the draft for KC?
Comment by BobM — October 6, 2008 @ 9:42 am
This was the first game I ever shut the TV off and walked away from…. in the 3rd quarter.
They looked and played horrible, and taking a knee at the end of the first half when they were down 21-0 or something like that told me that Herm had ‘cashed it in’ and totally given up already.
Comment by Johnny 5 — October 6, 2008 @ 10:05 am
BobM Chase Daniel would NOT do well with the chiefs he is short so he does well when he has good protection(which he has at Mizzou)and can sit back there and pick defenses apart whenever the pocket starts to collapse or he feals a little bit of pressure he freaks and trys to scramble instead of stepping up into the pocket and making the the throw chiefs line sucks ass therefore he would not do well as a chief unless we got a good RG RT and even a center and teacjh Larry Johnson’s LAZY ASS HOW TO BLOCK. thsts why they put charles in because he’s a good reciever and abetter blocking back in pass protection than larry
Comment by Mike — October 6, 2008 @ 10:12 am
Honestly, I dont’ think Herm gives one good god damn about the offense of any team he coaches.
He’s got these blinders on that a football team consists of a defense and maybe a few other guys that go out on the field for 3 downs to position the punter for a good kick, so the defense can go back on the field to attempt to keep it close. And then we have a snowball’s chance in hell to win or tie with our ‘other kicker’……..after our defense spends 75% of the game on the field.
I seriously can’t stand him…. I didn’t like him last year, but I really see that he is WAY over his head. He’s not head coaching material.
He was a DB, and that’s how he see’s the game. Plain and simple.
Comment by Johnny 5 — October 6, 2008 @ 10:13 am
Mike, you are right – the o-line is also awful.
I didn’t realize how short Daniel is – damn.
Maybe the Chiefs should go with the wildcat and lose the QB altogether.
Comment by BobM — October 6, 2008 @ 10:38 am
It is unfortunate that we got our young ass handed to us by a better more experienced team. But this was a coaching failure and Herm actually admitted it. He said it actually before he said it was also the players fault but I saw no game plan. We knew we needed to stretch the field to have any chance and we learned that Huard fucking sucks when throwing passed 10 yards downfield unless there is a clearing where is feable ass can try to get a catchable ball to the receivers. Look folks we suck we know Herm has done jack shit to prepare this team. I truly do believe that ever since that Oakland game we have just been going after draft picks and it sucks because we will only have fewer and fewer people at the games making our franchise look like shit. Changing coaching staff in the middle of the season is ridiculous, not just because it would be difficult for anyone to take the helm of a sinking ship, but with the players we have our coaches are the best for them because they picked them and started them. Everyone on that team needs to decide if they can play in the big league. Tank played well I thought Page is still amazing at times, and DJ I thought could have done more he needs to be the best player on the defense, but he can’t do everything himself.
We Need a Qurterback. I don’t who the fuck let damon play but it looked like he was ghost with the flu out there. He let us down more than anyone including the coaches.
Comment by Jake — October 6, 2008 @ 10:44 am
BobM im a mizzou fan i love chase daniel but i just cant see him doing well with a shitty line Daniel is the best QB no doubt with a pretty good line i dont think you draft daniel unless you make major changes to the line to imrove it drastically LJ HAD 2 YARDS RUSHING that proves how terrible our line really is
Comment by Mike — October 6, 2008 @ 10:56 am
Watching that game was torture. The only highlight was Page’s pick off in the endzone. Then the very next play we give the ball back on a stupid pick off. I felt like burrying my head in the sand.

I had front seat row behind Chiefs bench for this game and this team had no motivation to play Tony G was doing a good workout but other than that i seen nothing much and LJ all he did was walk around with a ball doing no jogging or anything before the game. And whats even more sad is this was my first live game ive got to watch cause im from North Carolina. Carl and Herm both need to go.

Hey Jake. Herm messed with Damon head when he said IF Damon played good for two games in a row then Brodie wouldn’t get his job back. Herm should have dodged that bullet and said Damon is our man. He is playing better than any one of our QBs. But instead, he made a comment that would have put pressure on any QB. Wouldnt Damon had played better if Herm didnt say that, I dont know. But you dont motivate a player by saying something like that. For goodness sake, Brodie cant stay healthy for two games anyway.

I say trade LJ. A running back is only as good as the O-Line. Im sure Kolby Smith and Jamaal Charles would be a great 1-2 punch. Think about it. Trade LJ why he still have value. Just like Denver does with their RBs. The only players thats hard to replace on offense is a QB, LT, WR and TE. Everyone else is replaceable. Im not too worried about the O-Line right now. Give them time. They will jell. I still remember the O-Line that Vermiel built and we had a great rushing attack. An example of a running back that is only as good as the O-line makes him is Derrick Blaylock. He got a nice contract with the Jets after a decent season with the Chiefs and I havent heard from him since. LJ cant catch, cant pass block, cant run two consecutive plays of 20 yards or more without needing a break to catch his breath. Only thing he can do is run between the tackles and right now he cant do that because the O-line is not in sync. So TRADE LJ. He will be 30 pretty soon and his value will decline fast and only be worth a late round pick.

Brian I’m with you…that was wrong to tell Damon that. We’re not only going to need a QB after this season, we’re going to need a back-up too, seriously. Every sucky game is shortening Damon’s longevity. Maybe Brodie can be our back-up (thank God you have at least 3 in the NFL)…but we need a veteran…or a semi-veteran…I can’t bare to ‘develop’ one anytime soon. What the hell ever happened to Chris Simms? Where did he end up? Cleveland is not going to let go of Quinn with the way it’s going with Anderson. Does Tampa Bay still have a treasure chest full of QBs?
Is it possible to get something going (different…change) in less than two weeks during this (thank God in Heaven for this) bye week?
I know you don’t want to hear this, but, Carolina’s a damn good team. With that being said…don’t our players like our coaches? What good is it to ask for their heads on a platter when the guys aren’t on board with that? It’s all about the boys, you all know that…What a long, nasty bye week it’s gonna be for them. I hope yesterday can somehow be motivating instead of just depressing.
Comment by Tammy H — October 6, 2008 @ 5:18 pm
Anyone who thinks Huard is good needs to get thier head examined.
He is terrible – a career backup.
He had time on several occasions only to throw the ball out of bounds, into the turf, or into triple coverage. He threw passes directly to the cornerbacks without even looking at the wide receivers. He can’t get out of his own way.
Yank him now and give the rooks a shot – We have nothing to lose at this point.
Comment by Let'm play — October 6, 2008 @ 5:47 pm
OH, Damon’s terrible…okay, okay…Terrible? I’m not sure I would assign that particular adjective to him. He should’ve never been pulled for Trent two years ago and then we probably could’ve beat the Colts with their lack of a run defense and then could’ve had a shot at meeting the horrible Bears in the big game. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way:-) Terrible? No way…I’m with whoever said that he looked ghostly white and like he had the flu or something yesterday. He’s been a rock, but his career as a backup is coming to an end real fast. Kudos to Damon for the wins he’s given us and for putting up with being a pawn in the coaches’ QB head-games.
Comment by Tammy H — October 6, 2008 @ 6:01 pm
1. What year is this of the five year plan to the win the superbowl?
2. Locals will not be able to watch the Chiefs for a long time since there will be no sellouts for the forseeable future.
3. We need a football guy running the show instead of a bean counter.
Comment by Its_Good_to_be_King — October 6, 2008 @ 6:03 pm
I am a season ticket holder and since the product on the field is not looking good right now I took some time to watch the sideline, Herm is a man on an island, no one talks to the guy and it doesn’t seem that the team has any chemistry going for it. I have a supervisor that Herm reminds me of, full of BS and no clues. As soon as I can I am out of my situation but I hope someone wises up before the team is totaly destroyed.
Comment by Never2Late — October 6, 2008 @ 6:13 pm
Sorry, he is terrible, Awful and downright no good.
A rock? Oh, he had the flu – nice excuse – bench him.
As you repeated career backup – when he starts, he chokes.
If you want to live in the past, we should have stuck with Gannon over Grbac.
Comment by Let'm play — October 6, 2008 @ 6:17 pm
I’m living in the past stating opinions from 2 seasons ago with the same backup QB and the same head coach? Okay, okay. I guess that does compare to the Elvis Grbac and Rich Gannon era of like 10 friggin’ years ago or so…I suppose you’re right Let’m play, I’m afraid I’m just an old fuddy duddy living in the past…guilty as charged. Did you hear we traded Neil Smith to the Donkeys? Oh, I forgot, that was like 10 years ago too. Can we agree that we need a first-string QB? I know Damon’s not ‘the man’ as far as first-stringers, but “terrible” is not correct, in my opinion. This isn’t about Damon, this is really about fragile Brodie putting us in this position 5 games into the season. What a nighmare this is.
Comment by Tammy H — October 6, 2008 @ 7:00 pm
How did this team get to the point where we NEEDED to find so many starters through the draft? Most good team management only have to find a few new starters every year. Someones not doing their homework if they think that Brodie can be developed into a starting QB, with the current line we need someone that can run around and also take a hit.
Comment by Life101 — October 6, 2008 @ 7:18 pm
I’m telling you guys, If we fired Herm and Carl and bring in Cowher as our head coach and Marty Shottenheimer as our GM we would be set because those guys actually know how to put a team together.
Comment by Stich — October 6, 2008 @ 7:29 pm
Carl reminds me of some drivers that want to enforce the speeding laws my driving in the left lane exactly at the speed limit the way he spends money on talent and complains when most other teams spend money on their talent, everyone has to pass the enforcer on the right but in both cases Carl and the enforcer are left in the dust.
Kansas City has a history of not supporting non-winners so I wonder if all the stadium improvements will be needed as no one will be using them. Why are the ticket prices going up if the product is not getting better?
Comment by Dee — October 6, 2008 @ 7:47 pm
Ticket prices go up, parking goes up, embarrasment level goes up, what do we get, not a damb thing except another bullshit sandwich. I have eaten my last one. And by the way elway7 go get a boy friend your way to board with life
Comment by thawk — October 6, 2008 @ 8:14 pm
Hope for someone like Cower or Marty to come here and get the team to play some football. I am old school, hit someone and make them pay for coming over the middle. This will not happen until Carl is gone, the sooner the better, as Carl is still back in Philly putting together a team that just gets by. The fans will still come to the stadium year after year hoping for a winner and be left hanging. The team deserves better and so do the fans.
Comment by Matt — October 6, 2008 @ 8:32 pm
Huard may have sucked really bad Sunday, but he is a good backup QB. He is also the best QB we have right now. Considering, none of the other QBs have ever won a game. I think of all the QBs we have, he gives us the best chance to win.
I like the idea of trading LJ. It would make him happy too. But no one is going to take on his salary.
I like the idea of Cowher coaching this team. We need to root for St Louis to win so we can get the first pick in the draft. We should be at the bottom of the power rankings now. Oh by the way, the Titans, might have the best defense in the NFL and their next. uh oh!

Trading LJ period will be darn near impossible with his contract and Cleveland has alreayd made it known they are not trading Brady Quinn, especially with where that team is right now. I could however see them possibly trading Derek Anderson. I’d take him but for how much is the question, I wouldnt give up much more than a mid-round pick.
Comment by Marques — October 6, 2008 @ 10:05 pm
maybe we get LJ the ball more than 7 times and this sh*t wouldnt happen. i mean seriously, if a QB is struggeling what do you do? feed the rock to your RB’s. that was just EXTREMELY poor coaching.
