Chiefs Talk with Culpepper, Gradkowski to Visit

[Kansas City.com] The search for some elusive stability at quarterback could lead the Chiefs to sign three-time Pro Bowler Daunte Culpepper.

The Chiefs talked with Culpepper on Monday, a day after they lost Brodie Croyle for the season because of torn knee ligaments. Croyle was injured in the Chiefs’ 34-10 loss to Tennessee at Arrowhead Stadium.

A decision on whether the Chiefs would sign Culpepper did not appear imminent. A deal might not come until next week if one is reached at all.

In the meantime, the Chiefs were preparing to bring former Tampa Bay quarterback Bruce Gradkowski to Kansas City today for a workout. Gradkowski played for St. Louis in a preseason game against the Chiefs in August at Arrowhead Stadium.

Coach Herm Edwards offered no information on the quarterback search other than to say the Chiefs might try to sign a veteran.

    1. A little too late to be making desperate moves such as this. Culpepper doesn’t want to play here, his knees can’t take it either.

    3. Whats the point. FIRE HERM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After what he did to TG in the Denver game. I mean really not to give him his three yards at home with his family there. That just says it all for me. Herman Edwards is ann ass.

    6. Bring back K Barth too. We need badly another kicker.

      Comment by French Chief — October 21, 2008 @ 9:11 am

    7. I think we should sign every free agent QB and when they start if they win they can stay if they lose we let them go. This would turn better results than the current QB’s we have on the roster playing. Also I would drop Thigpen immediately this guy is garbage he would not be able to start for my flag football team.

    8. Culpepper knows that our O Line can’t protect him so I bet he won’t risk it but it’s nice to know that they are looking. Wish we had our 03 O Line back.

    9. Herm Edwards needs to be fired!!! Hell the Niners just fired Nolan and they have 2 wins?!?!??! This organization has become worthless and quite frankly I’m not sure why I care anymore…

    10. Fire herm!… Trade tony, LJ, surtian, page, CARL PETERSON!!

    12. Actually I would keep Huard and Thigpen because those are the only two QB’s we can rely on at the moment. They are the two that lead the Chiefs with scoring at the end of the 4th Quarter not that it really doesn’t help but at least they are putting points up on the board.

      Comment by Stich — October 21, 2008 @ 11:02 am

    13. Michael,

So you’re saying it’s Herm’s job to see that Tony breaks a record @ home? Sorry, but that’s not the coaches job. In my opinion, TONY was the ASS in that situation. He was being selfish. What would you be saying if they would have thrown a pick 6 while trying to throw the ball to Tony?

      Jake,

The trade deadline has passed. They can’t trade anyone right now. And I don’t think that you can “trade” a GM.

      Go Chiefs!

    14. Oh well, I guess that 1st round pick will be a punter

    15. KC Star is saying that Novak is on his way out and Connor Barth is on his way in. I hope so. Seems that FG are our only chance to put some points on the board. And I guess I will step up and apologize for my “Fuck the Chiefs” comment and hope that we can all just drop it.

    19. YES! Trade for Brady Quinn. If that doesn’t work then it’s the best we could do right now. Quinn seems tough enough to withstand the fifty sacks he’ll recieve each game. Trade for Quinn!

      Comment by Rocky — October 21, 2008 @ 1:33 pm

    20. allchiefsnoindians,

We can’t right now. The trade deadline has passed. Besides, Cleveland will NOT let him go. Brady Quinn…lol. He’s unproven.

      Comment by chfsfan — October 21, 2008 @ 1:33 pm

    21. I’m tired of mediocre and hasbeen quarterbacks i.e Culpepper and Gradkowski. You gotta be out of your fucking mind.

      Comment by Rocky — October 21, 2008 @ 1:35 pm

    22. The trade deadline is over. So sign Culpepper and or Chris Simms and and lets see what happens. It can’t get much worse and it might even be entertaining for a change. Why can’t we just play like we did against Denver? There are no dominant teams in our division. Denver just got romped and San Diego is very streaky. Can you imagine if Culpepper found his Viking form with Bowe and TG? Moss did after he left Oakland… Maybe it was just a terrible Raider team that killed Culpepper and he can get good again like Randy!

      Comment by Chief Brad — October 21, 2008 @ 2:24 pm

    23. San Fran has fired Nolan, I would take him over Herm anyday.

    24. Its not even worth discussing anything till this insanity stops

Next year… Carl will still be ther and so will Herm, and we will still be on here bitching

      Comment by kcchiefs19692003 — October 21, 2008 @ 2:41 pm

    25. We need a QB who can see the field, get rid of the ball quickly, and escape pressure when the box collapses. Are there any of those available?
I’ve heard people say that it’s too bad Brodie is hurt all of the time because we can’t see what he’s made of. I’ll venture a guess….glass.

      Comment by derek — October 21, 2008 @ 3:34 pm

    28. I do like Leinart but I don’t think Arizona will give him up because Kurt Warner is old. I’m gonna put this out there and see what you people think. Lets get Michael Vick. He will be out of prison by June something. He’s paid his debt to society. I would buy season tickets just to watch him play. Can you imagine how explosive our team could be? And, he can run when our offensive line lets the floodgates loose. Sign Vick. All the goodguy bullshit that Herm is about is just that “bullshit”. This is a business and you get the players that can take you to the top.

      Comment by Rocky — October 21, 2008 @ 3:49 pm

    29. mike vick would have to wear a ankle bracelet for at least 6 months, who would do are away games huard?

    30. Vick is under indictment in Virginia for state charges. They’ve postponed his trial until the feds are done with him. He’s looking at 10 years in State Prison. So he’s not an option.

    31. we need to do somthing culpepper would be alot better then what we have. i mean come on branda croyle daisey Huard and i dont even know the other one. lets bring culpepper to the chiefs thats if he even want to be a chief i wouldent blame him if he would rather go to a candain football leage over the chiefs.

    35. The only thing we know for sure is.. Edwards will be back next year and so will jerk Carl Peterson. I cant believe it but I know it will be so! All Iv’e heard is “be patient, we’re rebuilding,” for the last twenty years!!! Or, “weve got a young team, be patient”. Bull crap, the Packers are the youngest team in the NFL and own a 4-3 record, that throws both arguments in the crapper! I see no improvement in this team from game to game! If even there was improvement I would feel better, but there isn’t! They are out of the game by half-time! They get their ass kicked on the ground to the tune of three hundred yards rushing every week, its pathetic! They have no defense, and no offense either! Oh, but lets give Carl another twenty years to re-build the team, Oh, yeah.

      Comment by Curtis — October 21, 2008 @ 7:13 pm

    36. Trade Page, are u F’ing mental? LJ and Surtain, trade ‘em no problem, and Tony Gonzalez, if he were to be traded for a 3rd rounder, I’d be content, but teams low-balled us and Im glad he’s still in town. As for the knucklehead who mentioned trading Jarrad Page, there’s the door …. We don’t need you, Oakland and San Diego could use more idiotic fans.

      Comment by Marques W. — October 21, 2008 @ 7:25 pm

    37. Same excuse as last year were rebuilding, guys are young, there going to make mistakes you can just here Clark and Carl’s excuses now For why they wont be in free agency and the same shit were going too build through the draft.

    40. Lets get Vick!!!!!!!

      Comment by Rocky — October 21, 2008 @ 10:28 pm

    41. matt lienart!? are you crazy? there is a reason he is on the bench. matt is almost as soft as brodie and has a weak arm! he couldnt even beat out butterfingers kurt warner. it takes a year for matts pass to get there and a lot are also under thrown.

      Comment by JC — October 21, 2008 @ 10:28 pm

    42. get vick? get real. he blows so he would fit in well here though. maybe we could run the option, get vick for our qb and make jake gm next year. that way we can still be the worst team in the nfl, herm would still have his job and jake would get to blow him. by the way, i would take butter fingers warner over any qb that we have had here the past few years.

      Comment by Fenwick — October 21, 2008 @ 11:41 pm

    43. is it me…or are the Chiefs looking increasingly like the Raiders?(minus the win this week or the sense to fire the head coach) Culpepper? yikes! I guess desperate times call for desperate measures….maybe he can take Brodie Creampuff’s number and go down to season-ending injury on the first hit he takes….from what I remember, players who come out of retirement don’t exactly return to form…a la Priest Holmes or Ricky Williams….this sucks, the Chiefs suck, and there’s nohing anybody can do about it….ranting and raving won’t get Carl fired or Clark hunt to sell the team to somebody who gives a shit.

      Comment by reedeasy77 — October 21, 2008 @ 11:55 pm

    44. your right fenwick …warner will be a free agent too this offseason. ill also take butterfingers any day over matt lienart or vick!

    45. RE: is it me…or are the Chiefs looking increasingly like the Raiders?(minus the win this week or the sense to fire the head coach)

And more than one super bowl victory in their past! three to be exact. Also the Raiders have a super bowl appearance in my life time, their last super bowl win was only 2 weeks before i was born (Super Bowl XVIII – Jan 22 1984), where as the chiefs have not been since super bowl FOUR! (Ya, thats just IV…no X’s or any of that shit) that was January 11, 1970…fourteen years and 3 weeks before i was born…..

      Comment by FatDaNn — October 22, 2008 @ 12:16 am

    46. Clark’s alright with me. He is about keeping the Chiefs in KC for good. If he sold the Chiefs to somebody else the Chiefs could end up as the L.A. Chiefs, and that would be the end of the Chiefs for me.
Things will get straightened out guys. We have all been patient and waiting for a long ass time (years), but we’ll get out of this. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT MAY EVEN BE WITH HERM AND CARL AT THE HELM!!!! I suspect by reading a lot of these comments that some of guys would still want them ousted even if they started to have some success, because it would prove you wrong and all the bitching you have spewed forth for some time now.

chfsfan is probably the person that is most reasonable and factual that I have seen on this page.

      Comment by Chief Tom — October 22, 2008 @ 12:33 am

    47. The fact is WE HAVE ALL BEEN SPOILED OVER THE YEARS WITH WINNING. Everyone needs to just shut the fuck up!! Any one can see the bad in things. It takes a mighty fine man to see the good. So why dont all you guys have some cheese to go with the wine. What the chiefs are doing is the blueprint for sucess in this league. How many years did the PATS fucking suck before they became good. It is our time to take the abuse for a while, then kick some ass. Yes the GM and the Head coach both need to go. We need a young coach that this team can relate with. And a new GM while we are waiting for this talent to explode.

      Comment by bc — October 22, 2008 @ 4:07 am

    48. We have not been very spoiled at all. Our team has 1 of the longest droughts in the league when it comes to a playoff win. That is a feeling that none of us have had since Joe Montana played. Spoiled? I think not. Tell Tony Gonzalez that he has been spoiled throughout his career as a chief. Hall of Fame career and 0 playoff victories. That is a rarity and it is frustrating for all of us. I will always be a chief fan… But we are in a weak division and we should be in the mix with players like TG, Bowe, LJ, DJ, and Page. We also had some bad years here in the late 90′s with gun as coach and Grbac at the helm. Then Vermeil built an awesome team that should have been kept togeather for another year or 2. Our contender was prematurely destroyed by Herm Edwards. Getting rid of Trent Green and Dante Hall 2 of our team leaders. We do not want to wait anymore for a post season run. We may just get worse as TG, Waters, and LJ get older. players like them do not land on a teams lap very often.

      Comment by Chief Brad — October 22, 2008 @ 8:29 am

    49. Dante Hall? That man had one good year in KC but other than that he couldnt do anything. He was a horrible reciever and still is. Trent Green kept getting hurt all the time so i was glad to see him go.

      Comment by Stich — October 22, 2008 @ 11:58 am

    50. Dante was a good return man for more than 1 year. He has 12 kick returns for td’s and is 1 shy of the NFL record for all time return td’s. He was consistantly giving us good field position and I have been keeping an eye on him in St. Louis. He still is getting the ball out to the 40 – 45 yard line all of the time and he brought back a kickoff for a td in his second game as a Ram. We have not had a return td since he left. Trent when not trying to run was awesome just ask tony G.
